Thank-you both. Of course I have millions more pics. I hope it's not too boring to see the same yard over again. Just my little way of journaling. When I moved here, 12 & 1/2 years ago there was almost nothing that bloomed on the property. It was all evergreens. The magnolias and a couple of other bushes but little else. No peonies, Crabapples, or lilacs or anything. I brought in most of the various hostas. The only existing group was that long row at the back of the main yard. And I got rid of a lot of brush- choke cherries and stumps that were eyesores- cleared some areas. It's a metamorphosis in progress.

I really admire people who take the "hands-on approach" to making their yard or grounds look attractive. When I was younger and had more time, i used to like to do the same. It gave me a lot of satisfaction. Now as the years have caught up with me, I relegate this task to more seasoned professionals.

Thanks, Hednic. I do enjoy it although it's become such hard work that I do have to have help now. But it's still a small operation. I have to have help or I'll end up in the chiropractor's office.

I seem to have become an accidental art collector with, understandably, a bent toward Cleveland-based or -connected artists. Here's my most recent, a heat transfer print by Phyllis Sloane, "Three Girls". There is something so Basenote-y about it. Now I'm wondering, what scent goes with this cheery, colorful work? I'm thinking Mollie Parnis or Amarige, two galbanum-laced, exuberant, feminine florals. You?

Very interesting collage. A great exuberant floral could be Creed- Jardin D'Amalfi.

Kumquat, your gardens are just lovely. My issue now is deer and figuring out what they won't eat.

Thanks, Jujy. I know the feeling. My sister is in NJ. She can't grow anything the deer won't eat.

Here are some views of roses in July. These are David Austin. They bloom pretty well with all the neglect I give them.

This section was all choke cherries and weed trees. I used the hose to mark out an island shape.

I thought you might like to see some different views. This is where I've crammed in a couple of tomato plants next to the patio. As you see, I hate rolling up the giant hose!

So, are there no deer in Nebraska, then? Beans, cukes, sunflowers all laid to waste here. So far the Concord grapes are untouched.

We we have plenty of deer but I live in the city. There are too many fences around between my area and the edge of town.

Where my sister is there are woods all around and the deer come into town, even in daylight, there are so many. They can't shoot deer in the city limits as someone might get shot. Around here there is a conflict of people shooting mountain lions. But we need predators to keep down the deer population. There are only 13 lions left in Nebraska. My feeling is that people shouldn't live out in the 'country' and then destroy it.

I just wanted to shout about someone who has been so nice and helpful to me.

    http://www.kites4you.co.uk

My middle son broke his kite whilst on the beach and just a tiny little rubber bit needed changing but it was very obscure. This man from this site has emailed repeatedly and pulled out all the stops to try and help replace it.

Please click on this link for a fun kitten video.

At least for me It is no longer possible to post a YouTube site as a direct link (showing the video still as a freeze-frame" in the post via our "Insert Video Clip" clickable link) in the Quick Reply box. Anyone else?

That is funny. I would think smell would be a factor, but apparently, it isn't.

    Your URL address needs
the word 'video' all in caps surrounded by these [ ] the last one; following your address has this / right before the word 'video'. I can't actually type it because it disappears.

Or try going to 'go advanced ' that might work.

Yeah, I tried that kumquat. When I open the Insert Video Clip in Quick Reply or in Go Advanced I am unable to get to the drop-down box that enables one to post the saved video link. I am however able to post the saved video link in the taskbar, an email, the Quick Reply Box or anywhere else possible. My drop-down box does not contain the option to post it to that link only for posting a video. Strange..

Maybe "eating crow" is truly an unpleasant experience. So cool that he would respond to another animal's distress.

We had 5 (all single births) in 62 months. Thank God we were both very young at the start.

I don't think anybody knows the real meaning of 'tired' until they have smalls. My first little lad wouldn't sleep at night for two and a half years. I counted.... and in that time I only had 21 nights of full sleep. Every other night was us up between four and eight times. We might have slept if I hadn't listened to the natural feeding councillor and given the poor hungry little mite a large bottle at night instead of my own exhausted supplies. Live and learn. We were like zombies. So dangerous to drive like that. Needless to say the others got bottles at night and slept.

Luckily it was a long time ago and now they are three strapping teenagers. Now they don't sleep at night either.....

My daughter and I cracked up at this comedy sketch of a woman trying to put a fitted sheet on her bed.

Thanks! Are you sure it's not a documentary? I have been there myself

In Norway, in summer, it never really gets dark. It must be very diifficult for these situations. I didn't know heat was much of a factor.

Light-blocking curtains take care of the light, but this year was record-breakingly hot, and almost nobody have air condition in their homes. It was probably the heat that caused most of the bedtime problems. I know the feeling! There were nights when I had to sleep on my balcony to get away from the heat inside.

Mumsy; maybe a slightly sweaty grapefruit note at the top?

I don't know. I thought it quite shocking that the videographer didn't warn the idiot- "your baby has your gun!"or something. Of course, it probably was too late.
