Thread: Guerlain Help

    Default Guerlain Help

Hi everyone. I have been sampling fragrances by house and am ready to explore Guerlain more deeply. Here is my limited experience with them so far:

    I love and own:
    • Habit Rouge EdT
    • L'Instant de Guerlain EdT

    I tried but didn't like:
    • Derby
    • Vetiver

I'd love some suggestions of what else to try. I only ask that it be something which is still widely available and for which samples can easily be purchased. Thanks!

You should try Heritage. It is widely available, it is good and is cheap. Also check Coriolan.

I only own two from Guerlain, Habit Rouge EDP which is almost a masterpiece and Shalimar, because of it's historical significance. I look forward to exploring this house more thoroughly in the future though.

Guerlain Homme is very nice, and I'm currently looking to get my nose on SDV, Cuir Beluga, and Tonka Imperiale

Suggest you try out Habit Rouge EDP as well.

As for others - way too many to list:

In extrait - Jicky, Shalimar & Mitsouko.

In edt / edp formulations: Philtre d'Amour, Arsene Lupin Dandy, Cologne du 68, Vega, Guerlain Homme Intense, Vol de Nuit, Sous le Vent, Mouchoir de Monsieur, Cuir Beluga & so many more...

Do try their Desert series trio & if possible the newest release Parfum du 68.

Enjoy - this is a grt house, so take your time & sample one a day to get a good feel.

As always - vintage stuff is better; but Andre or Mr. G have confirmed that this years Mitsouko formulation is as good as the vintage...

Habit Rouge EDT is closely related to Shalimar EDC and Jicky EDT(both are fine in current formulation IMO).

If you're into vanilla at all.....Guerlain's Spiritueuse Double Vanille is a must try.

Not very easy to get your hands on though. However, it is absolutely beautiful. If you can try it out, do so. It's my scent of the day

I have them, enjoy them and don't want to be w/out backup bottles:

    Heritage
    L'Instant de Guerlain Extreme
    Vetiver, regular and concentree

Just for the sake of knowing how are they like and smell some history:

    Shalimar (have)
    Mitsouko (have)
    Jicky (in my list)
    L'Heure Blue (ditto)

Difficult to find but worth trying as per Base Noters ops (in my list)

    Derby
    Chamade
    Mouchoir de Monsieur

I have but find it weird, enjoyable but no replaceable:

    Coriolan

    Guess this helped.

Be sure to check out the Aqua Allegoria collection. Simple and straight forward but very well constructed and natural smelling

While Guerlain has largely targeted middle-aged women since the 1920s, there are some masculine and shared masterpieces. Mouchoir de Monsieur is an obvious and hard to find choice. I like Derby and the current version is actually not that distant from the 1985 issue. I prefer Habit Rouge EdC and Vetiver EdC rather than the more prevelant EdTs. Even Jicky is quite good (LT even mentioned in one of his latest books that the 2011 Jicky was better than the 2007!). I am not a fan of any of the newer intense this and extreme that.

Yes, not always "much" is "better".
