    Default Posting pics

l am having problems doing this on the new-old site. l used "Go Advanced" which gives you the option to upload pics from your computer, & went through all the steps, but when l click "upload", l get a message saying "upload failed".

l had no problems doing this on the Huddler site.

Please don't tell me to use other sites like tinypic or photobucket, as l do not wish to do so; l would like to use pics straight from my computer.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance!

Hi there! I have similar problems. In some threads like old-school SOTD I just cannot "go advanced" - the feature is missing.
And same to me: I also would love to use my computer-pics. Thanks!

Hi teardrop - I've only had that message when the picture's file size was too large.
It sorted out by using a lower quality image before exporting it from my picture programme to my desktop.

If that doesn't work, maybe there's an easy answer that I'm missing!
    Good luck.

Eule - It sounds like a tech problem in the Group - it will need to be looked into.
I'll post instructions on basic photo uploading here in a minute!

    - - - Updated - - -

General use of Basic Photo Uploader From Computer

Firstly click third symbol from right here
    1.jpg

Choose 'From Computer' (from the Basic Uploader)
    2.jpg

    Then select 'Choose File'
    3.jpg

    Then choose 'Upload File'
    4Screen Shot 2013-11-05 at 10.18.41.jpg

On the last step, it may appear that nothing's happening - if clicked more than once, more than one pic will be uploaded!

If that happens, excess pics may be deleted by using the deletion option the 'Attachments' tab in Profile Settings.

Hope that helps - will go & check the Powerhouse Group.

    - - - Updated - - -

Edit - Just joined Powerhouse Group....
No Basic Uploader there, using Go Advanced posting option doesn't show one either.
Same issue in Japanese Incense Group.

    Advice please!

Yes it may be that the file size is too large, but then it would be helpful if the error message said as much, & if it gave you the maximum dimensions that can be used.

Those are the steps that l followed, lpp, but no, it's not working.

Oh, sorry teardrop - unless another member can help it sounds like another one for the tech team!
    Good luck.

p.s. - what was the size of the pic that you were trying to upload? - I don't know the maximum, but mine have all been under 1MB.

Not exactly the same issue, but also have found when responding to some posts that contain pictures, the pictures aren't copied. Not all the time, but sometimes. I can quote a poster but it lacks the posters pic. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

@ hednic - I just tested quoting a post including a picture & it worked - it's been deleted now.
It may be connected to the server issues if sporadic?
Please advise further after the upgrade.

@teardrop & Tony - will go & re-install Chrome on my laptop & check it out.

I could just copy and paste with Huddler. Now, nothing works.

Pre- Huddler, I was able to c and p and save to a folder or desktop, then upload but that's out also now.

p.s. - teardrop - all of the pics on my attachments list here are significantly below 1 MB, so reducing the size may help.

When I follow instructions to attach a photo it works but, however large the original, the one posted is fairly small. If I click on it, I get the larger version. OTOH, when I drag and drop a photo onto a message, it either doesn't attach or appears full size. Anybody know what's happening?

My experience is that it doesn't attach - strange.

I usually add photos via URL and found that when I uncheck the "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" box, the photo shows up large. However, at the bottom of my post there is also a thumbnail of the photo inside a box that is showing attached photos. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Would like to be able to post URL photos without the thumbnails at the bottom.

I just do it manually using img tags. For example, if I want to embed this image:

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...l_Red_Rose.JPG

Just surround it with the tags like this:

    {img}http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/51/Small_Red_Rose.JPG{/img}

but replace the curly brackets with square ones, and you get this:

    - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    And again...

    002.jpg

l tried resizing using the pixel size; the first pic here is 1500 pixels wide, the second 2500, which seems to be the optimum.

All seems to work fine if the picture size is adjusted!

Teardrop, they are the same size in your post, about 1.5" x 1" on my screen. When I click on them I get much larger versions, which also seem to be the same size.

Yes Scentfan, the size in the posts is the same, but the second pic is in sharper focus when you enlarge it.

That way is a bit easier on page loading!
If people want to see a larger image, clicking on enlarges.

What I usually do is touch and hold on the image for a few moments, and then a menu pops up that gives you the option to save the image. That puts it in your camera roll, and you can then insert it into a post by clicking the picture icon and using the "From Computer" option.

Sometimes Google images also gives you an option to open the image in a new tab or copy image address, I think. If you do that you can just copy the URL of the image and insert it using the "From URL" option.

I don't think you can do this with Tapatalk. Are you trying to post images from the app? If so, I think you have to save, and then upload from your camera roll. Let me try from my phone ...

OK - that worked. I just posted that ^^^ as an attachment from Tapatalk on my phone, after saving the image to my Camera Roll from Google image search.

You could also do it from Safari on your iPad using the little picture icon in the toolbar above the window where you compose your post. I'll try that now ...

    - - - Updated - - -

    - - - Updated - - -

That ^^^ was posted from my iPhone using Safari, clicking the "Insert Image" button, and then selecting the "From URL" option, and unclicking the "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" check box. This way it just links to the image rather than retrieving a copy of it and storing it on the BN server.

Whew! I'll have to reread yor answer. But thanks for telling me not to be in Tapatalk. I think I may have figured it out now. It saves the image to my camera roll.
and thanks for telling me to hold on the image. That gives me the option to save the image.
