OctaVariuM, I find it really hard to describe what is going on in these, they are complex and well-blended and as you say, different things come forward in successive wearings.

My brother-in-law brews beer, and I have smelled several varieties of hops; I can definitely pick these out in Sova, but I can't describe the way all the ingredients interact, it's complicated!
Behemoth cut a slice of pineapple, salted it, peppered it, ate it, and then tossed off a second glass of alcohol so dashingly that everyone applauded.

I'm sure DI can provide a better answer but it seems Josh has been reworking the discontinued version - apparently there were samples sent circa middle of this year (wasn't one of those that I got, though... it's something I want to smell too!) but has yet to be (re-)launched.

Same here, and perfectly happy with it. For me, the spices were in the now-discontinued Rume - all Christmas fruit cake and cola.

I just recently bought a bottle, but as far as what I got from my sample: I initially got a ton of smoke and not a whole lot else, but now I get the leather everyone talks about, as well as the unmistakable smell of Birch trees/bark.
Yep - I find that the extrait has been toned down enough so that one can actually make out more of what's going on in there (and there is a lot). Bit like listening to music through good equipment - one doesn't need to crank it up, and the details are so much clearer at a reasonable volume.

So my bottles of Sova (back up bottle), Jeke, and Norne came in today! It also came with a sample of the final version of Zahd. There is probably a few wearings there, but there is very little juice in the sample (I'm assuming since he only had a little bit).

I'm wearing Jeke tonight! I love this stuff.

What's your opinion of Zahd, OctaVariuM? This will be my first Slumberhouse & the suspense is killing me!

Also, I got a Paypal confirmation for my purchase but nothing at all from Josh. Should I be concerned?

Thanks deadidol! I didn't expect the shipment this soon, but I did anticipate an order confirmation from Josh. As long as there's a bottle with my name on it I'll chill.

All I can say is you'll be in for a treat with Zahd. As this is your first Slumberhouse, I suggest (to make it more suspenseful / enjoyable) that you refrain from reading the reviews / thoughts etc on this which are already out on BN - enjoy it when it lands in your hands...

Well, the only version I tried was one from a few months ago. I'll reserve comment until I give the Zahd I was given as a sample with this package a wear, probably on Sunday.

As for tonight, Jeke was/is heavenly. Still going strong of course. I'll see if she's still going in the morning!

I just got the Zahd sample, and I have to say, I found the opening cranberry blast somewhat strong for my tastes, but my goodness, the drydown... basically the scent starts very bright, and them gets extremely warm within a couple hours, almost animalic even... I love that part of the scent.

And I'll just go ahead and say it even though some people might think this is crazy, but the drydown vaguely reminds me of the drydown of Kurkdjian Absolue pour le soir--not as dusty, but with a similar warmth.

At any rate I was very happy with Zahd and I really do think people are going to be in for a treat. It definitely took a little time for it to sink in just how good it was, because it initially is dominated by the cranberry, but if you wait, it is worth the journey.

I found the cranberry note to be a little too pungent for my tastes as well. Overall Zahd isn't my cup of tea. But I do see why many like it as it does seem more wearable than some of the other fragrances in the line. Additionally, it's probably the most unisex Slumberhouse fragrance released, aside from Pear + Olive. I think I would have liked Zahd had it included a spicier element on top to tone down the Cranberry...perhaps a stark pepper note or anise. Just my two cents. I'm really looking forward to receiving my bottle of Vikt I ordered during the sale. Hopefully it doesn't freeze during its trip!

I wonder if the new sample has more cranberry than the one I had initially a few months back, because I remember having to figure out that it was cranberry. It was up front, but it wasn't a "holy BLEEP crap CRANBERRY" moment or anything.

The cocoa was dialed back a little from the penultimate blend making the berries seem a tad stronger upfront. This elevates the sandalwood / myrrh and gives the dry down that musky character that gtsb mentioned. It's very intimate scent in a similar manner to Ore, but leaves some serious trails.

This is part of the reason why the cranberry smells so prominent -- look at the color of this stuff.

Did you not receive a paypal confirmation? I think that is what counts as the confirmation, there is no "Slumberhouse" confirmation... so no, you shouldn't be worried. Shipping is pretty fast I have to say for a single-person outfit (in my experience).

So, after trying the Zahd sample - I really don't like the initial note. Far too cherry cough syrup smelling, it's really nasty. After, though, when that smell dies down - I adore it.

I'm wearing the newest version for the first time today, and I definitely like the older version's opening more. The cacao helped the almost waxy quality of the cranberry note in the opening. Still, I do like it, but I can see where you get the cough syrup smell.

I've only been wearing it for an hour and a half though, so I am still waiting for the basenotes.

Zahd definitely has a drydown... and in that respect might even be a new step for the house, since I feel much more evolution in Zahd than in the other offerings. It goes from a wearable fruity scent to a warm spicy one... as in, almost 180 degrees in the other direction, and is remarkable for this reason. It is unlike many of the other slumberhouses I have tried that are more linear.

Just got Vikt today. Not much else I can say that deadidol hasn't. It's a really nice fragrance, much more subdued than Slumberhouse fragrances I've tried in the past. The metallic edge of Vikt is cut out and smoothed...the edges rounded so to speak...much less loud and much easier to wear overall. I get mostly oud an black licorice on top. I'm only speaking about 1 hour into the fragrance. I can already tell it's going to dry down into something really special. Big thumbs up here, pick this stuff up before it's gone.

How long did those that purchased Slumberhouse Vikt get out of the fragrance? I'm quite curious. I only got about 6 hours myself from Vikt and that caught me by surprise. I did one spritz to the wrists which is more than ample for most other Slumberhouse fragrances to last well after a shower.

Nope. Should be January still. There should be an update soon once things get more finalized, but I can guarantee it won't be arriving this year.

An extremely long time on me, and my skin drinks fragrance. When I was doing the initial reports on this to give people a sense of the difference, I wore it both on skin and on a test strip. Skin is about 16 hours for me, and the test strip was (I kid you not) 5 days. With that said, I did hear from someone else that it didn't provide the longevity of other SH scents -- which, given the materials (and the crazy test strip timing) struck me as very strange.

Thanks deadidol, I know my nose wasn't broken today...but I'm pretty sure I figured out what my "issue" is here. It happens to be near the single digits here, nearing -30 wind chill and dry as all hell here in Chicago. My skin earlier I had noticed was unnaturally scratchy and dry itself...external factors had to play a big part. My skin never has issues with fragrances lasting forever, most especially those from Slumberhouse. I'll have to test again when the thermostat moves up a few notches and I get moisturized. The initial blast of Vikt smells a lot like the old stuff, but I was really digging the Oud/Sandalwood dry down, didn't get much incense but we'll see if it peeks in after wearing this when it's a reasonable temperature.

Same here by the way. I got a sample and tried it yesterday, and it got surprisingly spotty longevity, around 6-8 hours... was indoors all day so temperature was OK... don't know why, maybe it was olfactory fatigue? It was an atypical slumberhouse experience!

This kind of thing happens to me from time to time with his scents. Like, the first version of Zahd I tried lasted me like 5-6 hours, but the new one lasted me all day as is typical of his stuff. Then, the samples of Norne I had lasted me maybe 6-8 hours, but the one time I tried my bottle I got a bit better longevity, somewhere in the 9-10 hour range (I'll have to try wearing it again soon and actually time it better).

Then, of course, there is stuff like my current bottle of Sova that lasts essentially until I make an effort to get it off....it even survived a shower once recently.

Well good to know that I'm not just imagining the shortened longevity. I wasn't expecting it considering I NEVER have longevity issues, even with stuff that most people complain dissipates fast.

Just received my Slumberhouse order, including samples of Zahd and Mare. Zahd started out candy sweet, but has dried down (3-4 hours worn now) into a fragrance that rival favorites like Caron's Bellodgia and Bal Versailles.* Mare, one I hadn't heard of and don't see for sale (anywhere!), started out as a blast of wintergreen or menthol but has settled into a woody/green gem. I must say I've yet to sample a Slumberhouse I don't like. Each one is a complex and sophisticated innovation that absolutely reeks (projection, longevity, sillage), which is what I want a perfume to do. Even Sova, which is a bit more gourmand than I want to wear, is a joy to smell.

*Must double-check this comparison. May have lost track of what I sprayed where.

Wearing Jeke today, first time spraying out of the 30ml bottle having used up my 2ml sample. Wow, even better than the sample. The booziness really came out and is needless to say quite intoxicating. By far my favorite tobacco fragrance! Nothing comes close to this. When I first read about Slumberhouse on here, I kept hearing how his fragrances are hard to wear, but I don't find that to be the case. Assuming I don't put too much on, I would wear Jeke anywhere almost anytime (maybe not in 100 degree weather). If I had to pick a signature scent, Jeke is one of my top choices

Jeke is unlike anything else. Enjoy it my friend! I too just recently got a full bottle, and it is even better than the 2mL samples, as it really spreads out the one spray. Love this stuff!

Mare is one Slumberhouse that I am yet to get fond off - i do have a FB, but it's probably the most difficult opening I'v encountered so far, dry down's nice, but the initial green blast just puts me off from trying this again so far...

I love Mare's opening! I love how grassy it smells with something else I can't put my nose to.

I can't help but feel like this is a sin, but at the same time I am intrigued. How much of both? Like a half spray?

to each their own; but i'm also against these type of layering, particularly with such complex & well made parfums like Zahd & Jeke.

I hear ya, but couldn't resist the impulse. With Zahd I kept getting this "almost divine" feeling. It was "almost" as good as vintage Bellodgia and Bal a Versailles. I put it over Jeke and wow! It surpasses both. I can hardly keep my nose off my hand.
