Can't say I've ever smelled a fragrance with a watermelon note. Other citrus notes like orange and lemon are certainly more common.

Could you please be more specific while formulating a question?

I will attempt to answer here. Generally, watermelon note in feminine fragrances is looked down upon, not without a reason: it might become extreme, either too synthetic -- no oils in all types of gourds, nothing to extract -- or, too cloyingly fresh and sweet, meaning too aggressive, too prominent, the one that would not quit. There are some fine examples where this note is utilized gently, with great care and with a light touch. You have to sniff and decide whether they are for you, in other words, if they sit right on your skin, or you can't tolerate the effect.

Citrus is an entirely different category. While botanically fruit, in perfumery all of them oranges, limes, grapefruit, lemons and other kumquats are considered a class of their own. While notes are disclosed, you often times can see "vibrant citrus, fruity notes and a floral heart" on something in this venue.

    Hope this helps a bit.

I guess what it boils down to is if you like or don't like watermelon as a fragrance scent. I personally enjoy the accord but I know many people who don't. Whether a watermelon accord or citrus one is preferred is exactly that, a preference.

I found (by experiment, actually) that Bond no.9 Wall Street smells *exactly* like watermelons during the opening. In fact, that is the part of Wall Street that everybody loves. It's only later, when a certain "wet dog" note becomes obvious, that people are turned off by that fragrance. So people do like that smell. But personally, I love cedrat and lime most of all.

usually, watermelon in modern perfumer refers to calone, that is, to aquatic scents (which don't really smell very watermelony). I personally strongly dislike aquatics.
Citruses smell much more natural, but unfortunately, citrus is very fleeting, while calone lasts forever, which I guess is the reason why it is so popular.

Watermelon isn't a citrus! Nor botanically nor in smell!

it is a nice smell but it is sweety not citruss, and if it is too synthetic it will be like chewing gum

I have eaten a lot of watermelons during my life, and to be honest, I can't imagine what they smell like. Maybe everyone else is eating a different kind of watermelon than I am. Any very subtle scent they have is rather nondescript to me.

But citrus (lemon & orange especially) - now those are some notes to love. Citrus has a nice clean uplifting feeling to them - almost all of my favorite summer fragrances have high doses of one of those 2 notes. Strong and refreshing, and compliments other notes very well.

When it comes to citruses, I prefer fig to watermelon.

I'm one of the few who enjoys watermelon notes in perfume. IMO, it needs to be blended with notes that provide a counter-balance of some sort though. You may want to try Sage Machado's Garnet. The watermelon in it works well with the patchouli, rose and amber and it's a nice scent to wear during cooler months.

I know the fruitiness of creeds MI has at times a waft that some noses (Myself included) might qualify as watermelon vibe ...not much but is the closest I've encounter to it, obviously the sea salt note that MI is known is there also ....Eventhough specific watermelon note is not in the composition..Cheerios

Generally, citrus is a bit more classic, easier to wear and to accessorize, a bit more versatile too.

Prefer citrus for fruit notes, but there are a few decent melon/watermelon accords that are bearable.

Polo Blue has a melon topnote that's nice.
Armani AdG Essenza has a cascalone topnote that I read as melon-like, and it's OK
Someone else mentioned Creed's MI, which to my nose has a melon topnote as well.

Can't think of any others right now that have that accord.

MI has a fresh cool honeydew melon note according to my girlfriend. It's one of the few fragrances she likes.

I like the melon and salt interplay. Wearing it as I type

Lacoste noir launched this year 2013 has a nice watermelon opening...I know because a fella at the gym wears it, now about its evolution..I don't know but it's base note suppose to be dark chocolate: I've inly confronted opening and it seemed nice but not FBW for me....
