One I enjoy is Iris Ukiyoe by Hermes from their exclusive line.

For something fresh and light, Chanel La Pausa.
For a bigger thing (carroty, bready, intense), Lutens Iris Silver Mist.

Dior Homme, of course, and I like the way that Divine - L'Homme de Coeur Divine provides an iris perception as well.

    +1 for Iris Silver Mist.

    Also like TDC Bois d'Iris.

Iris Silver Mist captures the rooty, carrot-like aspects of the iris, which is how orris absolute smells, and that's an expensive, natural substance that takes years to produce. That's my idea of an iris scent, and the SL is the epitome of this aspect.
I'd venture to say that the majority of "iris" fragrances veer toward a more floral, metallic aspect that just doesn't cut it for me. Leaves me cold.

I love iris note but have had problems in finding one I want to wear. La Pausa is what I have been looking for. Gorgeously wearable iris. It's not feminine, masculine, sexy, dramatic, deep, complex or interesting. It just is - and smells fantastic in its impersonal way.

    My front rank irises are

Iris Silver Mist - dark earthy cool clear. Perfect
Dior's Hommes: original Cologne, EdT, and Intense - enjoyable to wear, very likeable, sweet gourmand iris
Amouage Opus III - I tell myself it's a masculine L'Heure Bleue /Après L'Ondee. That's about as close as a guy who worries about that sort of thing gets to these beauties
PG Cuir d'Iris - slightly sweet creamy iris leather
Iris Ganache - decant edible iris

As others said, we have the dry orris extract or replicas: Silver Mist, La Pausa, Ukiyoe, Iris 39, Iris Poudre, Iris de Nuit, ... not a fan of any.

Then the synthetic perfumey recreation from Dior Homme/Intense, Iris Nobile, Equistrius, Infusion, Apres l'Ondee, Vol de Nuit, and many others.
    I usually like them.

And lastly the 'iris'-aldehydes combo from Chanel's: Bois des Iles, No 19/Poudre, Rue Cambon, ...
    In my opinion the best.
    We want a 'Niche' forum.

Iris Silver Mist is a brute of an iris scent. I had trouble wearing it, but I have to respect it. Interestingly, when I tried layering the rooty earthiness stepped back and the waxy (lipstick?), metallic, floral aspects came to the fore.

I think I read Luca Turin comment recently that there has been an increase in the use of orris root in fragrances as they've recently managed to reduce the cost involved by shortening the aging process. How this newer process compares to traditionally aged orris, I couldn't say.
