Default Just smelled Mona di Orio's Vanille...

I have not really explored Mona's line except for Cuir, so I decided to order a sample of Vanille since vanilla is one of my favorite notes.

I have to say that she has created something really special! I was expecting to get a vanilla centered fragrance (hence the name), but instead I get a lot of creamy/boozy orange with a bit of rum, and as it dries down some nice spices. I really like this take on vanilla as it really isn't center stage, it's more of just present along with all the other notes making something really amazing.

It is now my second favorite vanilla right behind Guerlain's SDV.

What are your guys' thoughts on this scent?

Love it, although I do think the vanilla is huge and right there center stage. But it's not cloying or syrupy. It's almost smoky and it has a sort of sandalwood aspect to it.

One of the better vanillas out there IMO. Not overly sweet for a vanilla prominent scent.

I think it's a one of a kind fragrance. Still thinking if it's FBW.

Hmmm, just put it on my Try List. Sounds great!

I also enjoy Vanille 44, because the sweet aspect of vanilla is restrained and balanced by other notes.

I will keep my sample on hand but do think the entire line is overpriced..

One of my favourite vanillas, very good though I wish I picked up more of the boozy orange aspect of it.

I love it too, but for me it's more of a green boozy minty vanilla. Her oud is my favorite from the line though.

A wonderful vanilla, and I do find it very centered around vanilla, but just in a bean and dry aspect with other supporting creamy/boozy notes. Great fragrance, especially if you love vanilla.

    Everyone loves it. That's great.

But how does it differ from the other vanilla based perfumes out there?

I had the concept that vanilla was a boring note prior to sampling Mona di Orio's Vanille. It blew me away with it's assertive, earthy interpretation of vanilla, not overly sweet, Vanille exudes enthusiasm. Texturally, it's rough, unrefined, rustic.

Conversely, I find Mona di Orio's Oud to be tender, smooth, meditative and nearly spiritual. I love them both, and had just convinced myself that a full bottle might be worth it, when I fell in love with Oud, and was gobsmacked by the $500 plus price. sigh. t'is an endless chase indeed.

I haven't tried anything from Mona that I haven't either thoroughly enjoyed and/or been fascinated by. Waiting for a small decant of Cuir to arrive as we speak.
"Like a lobster with a pearl in its claw, the beet held the jasmine firmly without crushing or obscuring it. Beet lifted jasmine, the way a bullnecked partner lifts a ballerina, and the pair came on stage on citron's fluty cue. As if jasmine were a collection of beautiful paintings, beet hung it in the galleries of the nose, insured it against fire or theft, threw a party to celebrate it. Citron mailed the invitations."
