    Default The Thanksgiving Thread

I realize there's a SOTD thread, but I'm more interested in the why than the what.

It's Thanksgiving in the U.S., and Thanksgiving in Canada was just a few weeks ago. Christmas will be here in less than a month. This is such a marvelous time of food filled fun and merriment. On a day like this, when the house is overwhelmingly filled with the smells of food, and perhaps the occasion will be a bit more formal than a typical weekend dinner... how do you decide what you're going to wear? Do you even think about that sort of thing? Do you go louder to compete with it? Gourmand to blend in? Perhaps something light and bright for the contrast? I'm still debating.
I have a 100ml Gucci Pour Homme 2003 that I'll swap for Reflection Man or De Bachmakov. PM me if interested.

I have chosen to wear a scent that has a cinnamony-pumpkin vibe. Just seems to fit the occasion, so I guess a bit gourmand and spicy to blend in. The scent? Oajan

Tilda Swinton Like This would be perfect, but I'm thinking the best one personally for me would either be Safran Troublant or a lighter incense like Comme des Garcons 2 Man.

I'm choosing according to the company. It has to be mild and in the background. The final result will likely be Bois de Santal or Frapin 1697.

I'm still debating as well. Lots of family in town, so it'll probably be something safe. Already wore Bleu de Chanel to dinner tonight, have not decided on tomorrow. It's between Terre d'Hermes EDT, Burberry London, and Aventus. Oh, and if it makes a difference, I'll be doing a decent amount of the cooking (turkey plus a few sides). Thoughts?

I have actually been thinking about this quite a bit today. Especially since i will be visiting 2 families and will be out ALL day into the late evening.

So i need to not only smell like a superstar, but it will need to last extra long (i don't like carrying atomizers).

    Interlude Man
Tobacco Vanille (possibly the most appropriate)
    MFK - Oud Silk
Bois d'Argent (always a go to, but could be too light for the occasion)

edit: How can i forget Atelier's Gold Leather! I think i've found it!

Sounds perfect. I am sure a great scent.

Eau des Baux for me today.

It blends really well with the household aromas and while it's noticeable, doesn't clash or interfere with anything. Fits right in.

Plus, if I enjoy it enough today I'll probably grab a backup bottle considering the recent rumors of a reformulation. It's a good time to make a final assessment on it.

No overwhelming food smells or visiting relatives here in the UK. There are three of us Americans in the office, and we're slightly disgruntled at having to work I'm giving my first full wearing to La Fin du Monde today, and it's going well.

When food is the main focus I stick with a subtle perfume that won't interfere with anyone's enjoyment of the meal. Vanilla and lighter ambery perfumes work well, I think.

I went with Five O'Clock au Gingembre last night. Today, Arabie. In both cases because they seem to fit the food theme of the holiday. May switch off to Egoiste tonight.

All of the suggestions up thread sound great.

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Hanukkah, to all who celebrate those holidays.

I went with Burberry London because, to me, it is the epitome of the end of the fall season and is perfect for Thanksgiving. I also considered Jubilation XXV because it has been my special occasion/celebration fragrance. Others I considered this morning were Ambre Narguile, Tobacco Vanille, Eau de Baux (a little too Christmasy, but I might wear it tomorrow when we set up the tree and decorate), Terre d'Hermes, and YSL L'Homme (a little generic, but it's nice this time of year and is a crowd pleaser).

I don't want to compete with the food, so I am wearing Santal Noble by MPG. It is rich, beautiful but wears close to the skin so I can enjoy it without interfering with the feast.

My scent of the day is Wazamba by Parfum d'Empire. Perhaps it has more of a Christmas vibe, but it's just what I felt like wearing.

I"m stuck between Jeke, Tobacco Vanille, or something less overpowering like GIT... Any thoughts? Also liked Hednics choice of Oajan... So many choice, I'm flummoxed

Rouj, Tobacco Vanille would be my choice out of those you mentioned. Though, I haven't smelled Oajan.

You're right, and that's exactly what I did! I was going to wear Gold Leather but made an executive decision at the last minute. I just feel like Tobacco Vanille is most appropriate.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Really any of those sound great. If you wanna be mysterious, Jeke is a great option. I also really like the suggestion of TV.

As for myself, I am still undecided. I'm pretty much torn between TV and Jubilation XXV.

Spray TV on left, and JubXXV on right arm. Problem solved.

Pure Distance M is my choice. Smells nice, but it is really flat on my skin. Very much a skin scent on me. I guess that's good with so many guests and relatives around. I'd hate to pay for a full size of this. I'll just use up my samples.
