Default Jour de Fete by L'Artisan Parfumeur re-released

    From Now Smell This: http://www.nstperfume.com/2013/11/27...rance-reissue/

L’Artisan Parfumeur will relaunch Jour de Fête, the 2003 fragrance by perfumer Olivia Giacobetti, in March of 2014. Jour de Fête will be available as a limited edition.

[Jour de Fête]...was originally imagined as a fresh almond surrounded by a layer of icing sugar; and as almond flour with wheat and honey. Translated as 'Happy Day' or 'Festival Day', Jour de Fête reflects French celebrations...

L'Artisan Parfumeur Jour de Fête will be available in 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

I saw a bottle of it at a department store about 6 months ago.
I didn't know it was a limited edition.

    Cool!

I wonder how similar it will be to the previous version, given the IFRA restrictions on heliotropin that led to its earlier discontinuation?

Edit: Parfum1 has samples for sale, and you can pre-order a 100ml bottle.

    I ordered samples from Parfum1.

Dabbed on at first test, I was sure they were a little different-- I thought I smelled a little citrus in the top notes, but then the second time I tested, I decided to remove the variables. I decanted both the samples and the bottle into small plastic atomizers, allowed them to sit a bit to reach the same room temperature (I store my bottles in the fridge) and sprayed equal amounts on my wrists. Applied this way, they were indistinguishable.

Which really led me to wonder if the samples were from the re-release at all, or whether they were just older samples that were still on hand. After all, at the time the full bottles were only available for pre-order, so how would Parfum1 have gotten their bottle to make samples from? Bottom line-- I'm not sure I've smelled the new version at all.

I have a bottle I bought a couple of years back in a sale,
but I rarely use it. It probably suits a nursery class or a hospital
setting. Not really sophisticated to wear at work or on a night out
IMO. Would be interested to know if they have tweaked it.

I got a sample from Luckyscent. To me it was light and sweet like an almond cookie. No complexity. It did have good longevity, despite its softness.

It's nicely done, and I like the perfumer and the house, but this one isn't for me. As kewart says, it seems hard to think where one would wear it.

I sprayed it on my wrist a day or two after it was delivered to me almost two months ago. I remember it open with a pungent iris that slowly gave way to the almond. The vanilla-dominated drydown felt like what a tamed, leather-less Dzing! would smell like.

Like Mocha said; it's not complex but it's tenacious, despite its softness.

This is the bottle I got several months ago. Don't know if it's a new release or not since I thought the new caps are clear with a hexagonal shape (?). Any how, it opens with a nice iris but this stage does not last long then quickly transitions to a soft transparent almond vanilla sorta scent. It is quite linear but very nice. I can see myself wear it on a sunny Sunday for brunch with casual shirt and jeans.

That is the bottle shown on L'Artisan's own website, so I think you can feel confident that it's the current one.

    Thanks for the comments everyone.

Does anyone get a prominent cereal/wheat note from the new one? This is the part of the scent that I'm most interested in.

I am confusing this with CB I Hate Perfume Mr Hulot's Holiday.

The two scents have nothing in common. Jour de Fête and Mr Hulot's Holiday are films by Jacques Tati, one of my favorite directors and movie stars so they get tangled up in my mind.

Test # 2, this time with a sample I am sure is from a 2014 bottle. (A member of another forum and I swapped samples from my 2003 bottle and her 2014 bottle.)

As before, I decanted both to similar sample size atomizers to test them, to eliminate variables.

The 2003 is denser and more complex. It's greener in its top notes, and the wheat note is prominent. All in all, it's a real "character".
I'm not picking up the wheat note in the 2014, sorry, and the top notes are a bit sour. It feels thinner and more generic. My daughter likes the new version better, though.

For those looking for older bottles, there are distinguishing characteristics:

    • The 2003 bottle is octagonal and has sloping shoulders and the old style rounded, domed cap.
Recently there was such a bottle on eBay, see photo here:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/L-039-Artisa...p2047675.l2557

    • The 2014 bottle is as shown in post 13 by capridog-- the bottle is hexagonal with squared shoulders, and the label is a darker pink. Its cap is domed.

    • If you look at the photo on Fragrantica it seems that for a while L'Artisan was selling JdF with the flat-topped hexagonal cap. Again, I never saw any actual JdF bottles with that cap.

The new version's cap is perfectly round (I'm going off if memory as I don't have it in front of me at the moment). I'll snap a pic and post it when I get a chance. I do get wheat from it and it reminds me of a wheat body wash I used some time ago.

I have not smelled the original, so I can't compare. I wouldn't say it's super prominent. More of a subtle wheat presence that's blended well and carried by the vanilla.

For me, the new version didn't have the quirky appeal of the earlier one. I don't think it would have induced me to buy a bottle.

I'm 6 hours into it now and the arm sprayed with the 2003 smells so much better.
