Default Room Scent of the Day - December 2013

Starting a new month of room scent!

I am burning a new candle picked up at TJMaxx this week - Nest Bond Street Sandalwood and Sage. I think this is going to be a very subtle one, but will have to give it a few burns.

Burning a new candle tonight-- Russian Nights by Frederic Malle. It's perfect for these cold winter evenings.

That's a great smell to fill a house with especially during the holiday season. Love the cinnamon, nutmeg and sandalwood in it. Have had it in the past.

Today's candle is Ralph Lauren Holiday. I found a large, 3 wick one at TJMaxx last weekend, and this is a lovely, festive smell. It has plenty of throw, without blasting you out of the room.

Hi all - I'm back! Today, I've been enjoying my first Rigaud candle, Tournesol.

It's a very sweet citrus, like a juicy, flowery tangerine mixed with waxy orange rind and a pinch of rose. Usually, really sweet citruses put me off, but this has a judicious hint of mint that goes a long way to give a leafy green undertone to everything.

Probably a bit summery for such a cold day, but it's making me smile.

I've really liked all the Ralph Lauren candles I've come across. It's funny because I really dislike their perfumes, but their home collection is clearly manufactured by someone different. NeimanMarcus.com had the 2012 RL Holiday candle on huge discount when the 2013 came in - it sounds like I should have picked one up...

Yes, this is my first one from RL, as usually I pass them up due to price and exactly what you said about their frags. But this one was more than half price off, so went for it. Juniper, fruit (currant most likely) and evergreen/woods is what I get from this one. Nice and smooth. I highlly recommend it if you can get one on the cheap. Still not sure it is unique enough for full price though

Burning Aquiesse Winter Currant this morning prior to work so the house smell fabulous and seasonal. This one has moderate throw, but I find they burn so well and evenly that the smaller ones are perfect for a large room. And the throw is really probably appropriate for a soy candle.

I've never tried a high end candle or room spray before. Lately, I've been burning a couple I got from the Body Shop: the sandalwood/ginger one is nice. I've also been using this wax melting thing I got at costco with this nice vanilla spice scent. I've picked up fancy incense from an apothecary before, and that seemed worth it. Normally though we just buy whatever smells nice if we happen to go to Marshall's. As for sprays, it's usually some aromatherapy thing from Whole Foods or the rooms sprays from The Body Shop, in which case, I again prefer the ginger sandalwood scent.

I've been curious about some high end room sprays and things, but never yet been able to pull the trigger. I'd like a nice reed diffuser though.

It's funny, I have a bottle of Tam Dao and now that I think of it, I think I'd prefer it as a room spray. I'll have to check out that Ambre one the next time I'm downtown.

I know quite a few people who like their fragrances so much they double it as a room spray, but personally can't get myself to do it!

I just sprayed Diptyque- Opopanax, in the room and the air was delightfully scented in minutes. Whereas, I'm pretty sure that if I had sprayed any of the EDTs , the spray droplets would have drifted ineffectively to the floor.

I have made emergency room freshener on occasion. When I find myself in a stinky public bathroom stall, sometimes I'll spray a shot from one of the vials in my purse onto a scrap of toilet paper. Wave vigorously.
