Default Suggestions for a leather based fragrance

I would like to add a leather based fragrance to my collection as I do not currently have one. I tend to like darker, stronger scents that are long lasting and project well. I tried Knize Ten and I did not like it. I have been on an oud kick lately so maybe a leather with oud? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford is a very user-friendly leather. You could always try Cuir de Russie by Chanel, but it's quite floral.

    There are many interesting leather
    - Peau d'Espagne by Santa Maria Novella is the rawest one I have ever smelt
    - Lonestar Memory by Tauer is the scent of cowboys & campfire
    - Parfums Retro Grand Cuir is quit Soapy Leather
    - Parfum D'Empire Cuir Ottoman is great, too
    - there is new leather base perfume by Parfums MDCI which seems promising because all their offerings I have tried are great.
    ***My favourite from my collection***

    ------ Serge Lutens: Ambre Sultan
-------- Les Exclusifs de Chanel: Sycamore
    ------ Amouage: Fate Man

Lots of different options on the leather theme, best bet is to procure samples and see which rendition is your fave:

    Leather Oud
    Aoud Cuir d'Arabie
    Epic Man
    Tuscan leather
    Or Black
    Puredistance M
    1740 Marquis de Sade

Without a flinch Tuscan Leather...any other is just faux....TL has IMHO set the bar High...Luxurious Leather couch, saffron, rasberry(fruity) suede...etc ..etc so deep, dark, rich and blended so opulently...any other juice and you are just not indulging yourself in a Modern Master piece...Bar to none ....cheerios

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys? I did sample cuir d'arabie but was turned off by the opening and had to wash it off. Maybe I should resample it again and let it dry down a bit.

I second the recommendation of Cuir Ottoman - a soft, suede-like leather, without the rubbery notes of Knize Ten (if that's what put you off).

Was it too dirty for you? In that case, you'd better stay far away from Dior Leather Oud too!

Try Guerlain's Cuir Beluga, a nice polished leather note.

I'd be careful with Tuscan Leather because, as was said, you need to like fruit too (raspberry) and it's not cheap. I'd avoid something like ELdO's Rien if you don't like Knize Ten. Still, TL is among my favorite leathers.

You didn't like Knize Ten and didn't like Oud Cuir d'Arabie. which makes one wonder whether perhaps you don't like leather in general.
Perhaps you can try lighter leathers. Chanel Cuir de Russie is very smooth, and Etat Libre d'Orange Tom of Finland is a smooth suede.

I found the opening of cuir d' arabie very dirty and did not wait for the dry down. The rubber in knize ten is what put me off for sure. I do like fruit so I'm thinking Tuscan leather may be a good option but expensive.

Lonestar Memories may be tolerable to you, though your dislike for the Cuir d'Aribie makes me second cacio's concern that leathers may just not work for you.

Leather scents simply do not smell like leather to me. But with that said, in the leather genera I enjoy Kolnisch Juchten by Parfums Regence the most. Dior Leather Oud is a favorite too but personally it does not smell like the leather jacket I wear, more like oud wood and animalics to me.

You might try Chanel- Cuir de Russie. It is a bit lighter. Be sure to let it dry thoroughly. It starts with a 'hairspray' accord but it dries to a soft, warm leather. I prefer the parfum.

Nobody sugguest Charriol Royal Leather because it is cheap? Only about EU150? I like it a lot specially because it is not only leather, it's modern ans a bit spicy. And it is indeed compared to Tuscan Leather, too.

I did a poll on people's favorite leather fragrance a year ago, and more than 130 people voted. The top six were Tom Ford Tuscan Leather, Knize Ten, Chanel Cuir de Russie, Dior Leather Oud, Parfum d'Empire Cuir Ottoman, and Helmut Lang's long discontinued Cuiron.
You might find the voting results and the discussion in that thread interesting. You can find it here: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/317...her?highlight=

To focus on one very particular corner of leather-land, I'm a fan of both Bel Ami by Hermes & Puredistance M; they share some similarities, though opinion seems split on how close they really are. Still, they both have a certain refined quality without traipsing into the realm of delicate. If the refinement there is still too much, check out Roja Dove's Fetish Pour Homme.

Also, consider Godolphin by Parfums de Marly as a Tuscan Leather alternative if you end up liking the Tom Ford but want something a touch less, uh, loud.

Since you love scents that project, not sure what would fit but I saw mention of Charriol Royal Leather, which honestly might be my 98% replacement for Tuscan Leather. Nemo Cacharel for Men is another decent leather scent with cardamon and other creamy spices. Doesn't overwhelm, but projects a bit (on me).

    One of my favorite genres.

For oud oil with leather I can only recall Black Oud by Kilian.

For oud wood with leather : Leather Oud - Dior

    Specialty leather
Peau d'Espagne - Santa Maria Novella

This one will let you reconsider what you think you like about strong leathers.

    Other non-oud leathers:

    Butch
    Cuir Mauresque
