Thread: BDP vs Derby

    Default BDP vs Derby

Hello all, I'm new to the forum and seasons greetings. I've decided I'm going to treat myself to a new bottle. Having tried lots I've narrowed it down to the Creed and Guerlain heavyweights BDP and Derby. I notice that both receive much acclaim on here but when pitted against each other which do people prefer?

    Derby by a HUGE margin.

I own both (both new formulations)
    I would go for BDP
Being the stronger and more lasting

The opening lavender of BdP is harsh but the woody drydown is very good. Though I will have to give the edge to Derby for it's wonderful complexity.

Another for Derby (& by a mile) in terms of the scent.

BdP however does have more longevity on me.

It sounds as if you have tried both; which do you prefer?

Derby is a fine fragrance, but I do have longevity issues with it (non-vintage formulation). BdP truly is one of my favourites and has no such longevity problems. If I had to choose only one, it would have to be BdP. I would miss the Derby though.

I'm really not too sure. I like Bois du Portugal's lavender and unmistakable masculine smell, but then Derby really is art constructed by a master. I think in the end though it really comes down to what vibe you want a scent to create and for that BDP wins.

I know what you mean about the lavender. Many say BdP has a very harsh opening but I don't subscribe to this and it is actually my favourite phase of the scent.

    Good luck.

That's tough. I find the longevity on both to be very good. Both smell great. I think if forced to pick I would go with BdP. Can't go wrong with either.

You should have made a poll for this.
