Default Amouage Epic & Musc Ravageur

Is it just me. Or are there many similarities between Epic and Musc Rav?

Epic is drier and more harsh but both are animalic and have a sweetish drydown.

    What do you think?

I have worn Epic a LOT lately. And Musc Ravageur was my scent of the day today. Nope. I find them completely different. Both beautiful but very different.

Epic Man has more in common with a shoe than it does with MR.

So... you'd be in the "not a fan" column for Epic?

Epic smells like an expensive incense soap. Musc Ravageur smells of many things in the drydown, but it has nothing in common with Epic's drywodn.

Personally don't get anything similar from these two.

Heh, i do own a bottle of it, and like it quite a bit. I love Musc Ravageur.

I meant more that they are so different from each other, that Epic would have more in common with a shoe than MR. Shoe can be replaced with knife, cup, necklace, paintbrush, desk, etc.

Really anything that is NOT Musc Ravageur

    I don't disagree.
But let's focus on no fruit, dark, slightly animalistic. That's where I see similarities.

There is no fruit in MR, at least to my nose (or in the notes list to my knowledge), and I don't really consider it dark, either. It also has no incense or pepper or oud or leather or myrrh like Epic does, nor does it have that smoky quality. Sorry dude, but I don't get it.

ok lets expand the question. Any preference over one of em? Lets establish that both are dark, barely any fruits and last a long time =)

I still don't get dark, but I vastly prefer MR. Epic Man is just another Amouage with incense. It's very good, of course, but it doesn't stand out from Memoir or Jubilation or any of those enough for me.

Definitely Epic Man for me. This may be more or less my holy grail, but then I have many holy grails

I can't say I get some similarities. It might be that you're hyper-sensible to certain musks? Just a wild guess...

I'm feeling the same way. I sampled Musc Ravageur and enjoyed it, but Epic Man has the projection and longevity that is more to my liking. "Expensive incense soap"... I can see how that interpretation could be had. Associations are tricky things. I just applied some Epic Man to my wrist, closed my eyes, and inhaled. I concentrated on soap. Imagery of being in a Japanese sauna with cedar/sandalwood essence surrounded me. A geisha came in, naturally very timid, and disrobed me in preparation for my hot tub soaking. But first, she opened a bottle of oil and began rubbing it all over my body. It wasn't soap. It was the most luxurious scented oil that matched so well with the scene. It was Epic Man.

And that... is where I'll have to stop.

I get no similarity either. As for preference, Epic Man is nice enough, but MR is one of my all-time favorites.
