Default Amber as the main event

I've recently tried a couple of very nice ambers, Ambre Narguile and Ambre114. I did like both but would love to find a good amber with a lighter price tag. So do please tell me your favorites that will fit the bill. Any additional thoughts are welcome . I should add that I tend to lean toward sweet frags, away for anything green or clean (which I don't think would fit anyway, but thought I'd mention just in case)

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan is available in 50ml online for substantially <$100 USD. It's closer to Ambre 114 than Ambre Narguile, but not very sweet. Other than that, given that a 60ml of Ambre 114 is about $125 USD already, I don't think of any really good amber-centric fragrances that would less costly.

Perhaps Molinard Ambre - very reasonably priced.

My suggestion would be L'artisan L’Eau d’Ambre Extreme. I get amber and vanilla so it has the sweetness you enjoy. 100 ml for about $100 on ebay.

I like Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense, but it's really not a traditional amber in any sense of the word. Many women love this scent, however. I actually think the style is a bit girly, but SHHHHHH! don't tell any of the guys around here!

Ambre Precieux is a bit lighter. Still quite a bit at $130 a bottle from Lucky Scent. http://www.luckyscent.com/shop/detail.asp?itemid=29302

I love Amber Narguile and TDC Oriental Lounge. If price is important, Oriental Lounge is a bad one, however. TDC is never cheap. But it's very sweet - somebody (I think it was Kevin Guyer) joked about suitability of Hello Kitty costumes when wearing, IIRC. LOL!

I know! Kate Walsh Boyfriend. It's in Sephora. Not a straight-up amber, but it's a wonderful ambery oriental that is actually current. I came very close to buying it myself. That should be well-priced.

Eaux des Baux at L'Occitane. Good, cheap amber. They have a new Amber and Santal that's more expensive, but still cheap, and very nice.

There used to be a great all-natural amber from Lord's Jester called Ares, but I'm not sure what's up - I cannot find his site on the web. Adam's stuff was always amazing.

I paid 60 for my bottle..
Also Gaultier2 is a great alternative

Ambre Precieux. As others pointed out, it can be found for cheaper on the ebay and if you're up for a classic take on this theme, you can't get any better IMO (especially given the price).

I am a huge fan of Ambre Preciaux also, thanks to reviews from grt noses like Alfarom & others, my other 2 fav`s are Ambre 114 & L“mbre Fauve.

I also strongly suggest you to try Arabian Oud`s Kalemat - a beautiful sweet amber - might be to your liking:

Ambre Sultan was really herbal to me, not sweet, I got all oregano.

    Some ambers to try:

    Must de Cartier
    Prada L'eau Ambree
    Coco Chanel
    Sensuous EL
    Trouble by Boucheron

The MPG scent mentioned earlier may be one to sniff as well.

I'm about to do you a huge a favor my (wo)man. One of the best ambers of all time is low in price for 100mL: Ambre Precieux.

    http://www.fragrancenet.com/maitre-p...mf/en_US/19681

With the 21% off coupon VPHC3, it comes to ~$63 for 100mL with free shipping.

This stuff is an amazing amber, with amber as the main note for sure. Just look around at the reviews, it's the real deal.

Yep, duh. Ambre Precieux was another that I failed to think of. Compared to Ambre Sultan, it's probably closer to your target. And pricing is very cheap online, as stated.

Ambre Russe is awesome, and goes for $75/50mL.
    L'Ombre Fauve can be had for $85 (30mL) or $100 (50mL)
    Both are stunning ambers.
Ambre 114, if you like that (I do; its great) can be had for $36 (15mL travel spray); and under 30 if you wait for a discount.

    For me:

    PdE Ambre Russe
    Hermes Ambre des Merveilles.

I love amber in many forms, but tend to steer more toward resinous than sweet myself. With that said, I'd urge you to seek out L'Ombre Fauve as mentioned above. It's not overly sweet, but it does have a caramel facet. Really fascinating stuff!

For a relatively inexpensive one, you might keep your eyes open for this: http://www.amazon.com/Arno-Sorel-Sol.../dp/B005G40CSU

Urban Outfitters were selling then for $5 not too long ago. It's not mind-blowing by any means, but it's a solid textbook amber.

I might suggest, gingerly, Profumum Roma's Fiore d'Ambra and Ambra Aurea.

    http://www.luckyscent.com/shop/secti...bra_Aurea.html
    http://www.luckyscent.com/shop/secti...d%27Ambra.html

I say gingerly because their price tags are high. Hence, I would recommend seeking out samples and then decants.
However, among the dozen or so ambras that I own, these two are at the top of my list. They may be a little sweet. they
are certainly full-bodied ambers, unlike many, which seems pale or timid (not that that's all bad). Profumum's ambers
    have exceptional longevity.

    Good luck!

The addition of caramel sounds appealing! TPS

Phew, that is high pricing! However, I have wanted a fume from this house because I do so love the graphic appeal of the text on those bottles.

Kalemat is excellent and sometimes can be found for $70-$80 dollars on Amazon. Ambre Sultan is my personal favorite just with the dynamic opening and the monstrous longevity for between $60-$70 dollars for the 1.7 oz at the major discounters. MPG Ambre Preceuix is also up there as many have said for around the $80's at Fragrancenet. Good Hunting.

I happened into L'Occitane today and somehow, a bottle of Eau de Bauxi and Amber & Santal seem to have followed me home. I couldn't chose, but both were under $100,which made me happy.

I was just going to suggest the new l'Occitane!

It's a good buy and not as much of a 'commitment' as some of the heavy hitters mentioned above. Amber can weigh you down after a while if you're not in the mood for it - nice to have a medium weight one that doesn't sacrifice quality.
