    Hello everyone -

I'm giving Iris Prima another try for ballet this morning, and my impressions are rather different now. I'm not getting what I initially thought was obvious vetiver, so that's a good thing imo, and the zesty topnotes are much more apparent ...they remind me a lot of Chanel Eau de Cologne, but they don't seem to be as fleeting, so I really like that. I'm still getting lots of smooth leather and iris, and this part reminds me of Prada's Infusion d'Iris with a bit of JHAG Citizen Queen, so as of now it's basically the lovechild of those three. It's very nice even if not very unique, but I think it'll be even better for spring and summer, and it seems casual enough to be a great sport scent, so I'll probably find myself with a new one for tennis ...but it'll certainly do for ballet, as well.

    Y'all have a great day!

Wearing Querelle, Pierre Guillaumes tribute to the Fassbinder adaption of the play Querelle de brest by Jean Genet.

This fragrance with it's carraway, myrrh, and cinnamon opening is a striking hit for the rose and vetiver it sinks into which lies on its bed of Oakmoss and Incense.

It's a beautiful vetiver, but the rose in this makes it unisex more than masculine.

Thanks to Quarry and Jon for the good thoughts. Jon, the photos are beautiful. Here's to a low-key Christmas. Years ago we resolved to opt out of the commercialism; it barely registers with us now. Time spent with our loved ones, a meal shared and simple gifts exchanged, that's Christmas for us.

Good morning, everyone! Had an excellent weekend with the whole family here and everyone liked their Christmas presents, so it was a complete success.

Evangeline, congratulations on receiving Iris Prima as a gift and I'm so glad you seem to be enjoying it. When I first read Penhaligon's description of it I thought of you, it fits so perfectly.

(((Twolf))) & (((Mr.T))) Maybe the Affordable Care Act will ease your burdens? I have repeatedly thrashed through the dot-gov site since early October and finally got the beast to work on Saturday. Starting Jan. 1, I will have affordable insurance. What this translates into, in this forum’s context, is that I feel free to spend discretionary money on perfume because I no longer have to save every last penny on the chance I need to pay 100% of some unknown future medical expense. If you haven't lived with the fear of losing your home over a vagary of fate--like a fall or a tumor--you can't appreciate how comforting health insurance is.

Congratulations, Quarry. That is good news. Much of my adult life was without insurance, including 2 childbirths, one broken arm, one broken foot... Do have insurance now, but I sure remember the feeling of not being able to access any health care because the cost is just too high.

Quarry , as ever your post brought it home sweet one!

If a country (and especially a wealthy one) does not care for it's children, ill or old it has no right to call itself civilised.

Hope it improves for you Twolf ...will be thinking of you. Things are not good in Greece but our nurses and doctors in the poor urban areas really are our heros ..........they have worked non stop without any salary for eight months. Thanks to the eurocrat criminals (who barely have bookkeeping skills and screech that women should remember kinder and kitchen) who take 500,000 a year telling doctors that 600 euros a month is unreasonable and 350 should be the monthly salary!!!!!!!

Thankfully there are places like France and the UK where the NHS means healthcare is a human right. There is still a large private sector here and fine if people want it .....but being in both thanks to my work.....the NHS is where I would want to be if things got scary.

Robin thank you for this informative post.........just how prevalent is this in the US?

In our family we have a doctor (daddys cousin) who runs one of your major *state* hospitals .....starting to understand why he is always stressed! When he visits we are often warned to not bring up the topic too much as he needs a break from his work..........as a senior specialist he spends his times (as we say) licking the arses of corrupt politicians for funding rather than performing his incredible skills god gifted him with and he worked so hard to obtain!

Just so we don't hijack this thread or stray into hot-topic political discussion, I offer this link: http://www.hhs.gov/healthcare/facts/timeline/

In a nutshell, we are currently experiencing the implementation of our first national healthcare program. Prior to this, health insurance (up to age 65) was either a benefit offered by some employers or a person bought their own insurance (increasingly at greater expense and often with minimal coverage) or simply paid for medical service 100% out of pocket.
