Thread: What was your first fragrance?
Mine was 'Gesto'. I got it from a mercadona in Spain, but I have never found it since

English Leather, circa 1967!
Swiss Army! Geez, can't believe it.
Don't remember, but it had to be somewhere in the ballpark of Old Spice or Hai Karate.
I believe the first one was given to me by my parents as a gift... Original Polo (an excellent choice, btw). The next year when I had the money to buy my own I purchased what became my most worn composition of the past 26 years including today... Giorgio for Men.
Current Top Favorites:
1) Portrait of a Lady original formula (EdP Frédéric Malle)
2) Giorgio for Men vintage/V.I.P. for Men (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
4) Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio) - tie
4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie
6) Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)
Original Polo for me as well.
I'm not sure, but I believe it was either Polo Sport or Nautica Classic.
Drakkar Noir bought for me by my GF at the time when I was 19, I didn't like it but she loved it.
Polo Sport and Hugo were the first two I bought for myself at the same time at the small Macy's in my hometown, I was 20.
Didn't just wear it. I bathed in it.
My own personal bottle would have been either Aspen or Drakkar Noir.
But i was stealing sprays of my big brothers Gucci way before i had my own bottle.
This makes me miss my brother
L'Eau d'Issey was my first one.
Mine was Eau Sauvage by Dior bought to me by my mother, i was 15.
"Le parfum est la musique du corps"
Probably an Avon was my very first fragrance, although I have no idea what it was called. I remember the bottle was in the shape of a car, though.
From there, I progressed to Canoe, Brut, and British Sterling Lemon!

Laughing...that sure goes back a long way and brings back some great memories. Something called Pub, Royal Copenhagen and English Leather.
"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."
"I've been everywhere but the electric chair seen everything but the wind."..
Brut or Yardley English Blazer
It was called Trouble, and I think it was made by Mennen. I'm pretty sure I received it when I was in seventh grade, which would have been 1971, In my memory, the bottle was pyramidal, sort of like the Canali bottles, and the liquid was deep green. I don't remember what became of it, but I kind of wish I still had it.
Probably Old Spice, since my father used it.
It was Gravity...a cheap cologne in a slanted blue bottle...it is far from anything I would wear now, not because "I'm too good for it" or anything like that, it's because it is definitely not my style. My mom bought it for me for $10 and I wore it all the time and all of my friends considered it "my" scent, and I got tons of compliments for it. So, for a high school student in the 90's, it wasn't too bad I guess.
My first "real" fragrance was the 80's Giorgio Beverly Hills. But the first fragrance I used was probably
Avon's Old Country. I was about 8 or 9 years old. My grandma sold Avon and got
it for me. It came in a hokey clear brown glass bottle shaped like a corn cob pipe.
It was a dreadful brew but oh the memories!
Joop! Homme by Joop! was my first overall fragrance when I was in 6th or 7th grade. I think if I tried Joop! for the first time today I probably wouldn't like it at all but I wear it on occasion because it evokes great memories and I really like the scent. That one and Hugo Dark Blue in 8th grade started the hobby but I didn't buy my 3rd fragrance until my Basenotes join date.
Declaration by Cartier
Avon Snoopy Cologne...not sure what the scent inside is. I still have it, stored away. Received it sometime in the mid 70's when I was like six years old or something.
Then I "moved on" to Old Spice Fresh Lime/Brut/British Sterling, followed by Adidas (original), Carrington, and then RL Polo. Polo carried me thru high school and beyond for a few years.
My first fragrance was Black Suede by Avon, a well known cosmetics company here in the UK. I was about 10 when I got it and back then I used to literally put on so much that I would stink out the halls of my school. I actually liked the stuff at the time and it holds fond memories for me. My next fragrance that is probably a more relavant one to have owned was CK One.
My parents had some great scents, and I was given some good scents as well, but the first scent I actually bought for myself was Zizanie by Fragonard.
Arber, from the Body Shop. 20 bucks and I wore it all throughout high school. Not bad stuff, in retrospect.
From what I can remember.. I think it was Chap's by Ralph Lauren back in the early 90's. I was quite young.. maybe 7 or 8, and we had just moved out here. The city I live in was new then and there was virtually nothing built here, but there was a Kmart. They always sold 3.4 oz bottles of Chap's for like 7 or 10 bucks, something really cheap.. splashes though, not sprays. I remember though as I got older I ended up spilling it down the sink and not liking it, find it too strong and too mature smelling. I regret that now because it's pretty hard to find, and I think it smells amazing.
My 3 Signature Scents:
Rive Gauche Light (2004)
Paul Smith Man (2009)
The first one I can really remember getting is Safari. I was probably between 3rd-5th grade when my mom bought that for me (mid-90's). It was a scent that a father of one of my best friends had on his counter, and I remember it well when my mom gave it to me. I've long sense lost that bottle, but I want to buy a new one. Though a new one will likely be nothing like the version from back then, it should be interesting to try. The bottle has probably been sitting in a box in my parent's attic since the late '90's, so who knows how that's affected the juice?
There are a few other landmark fragrances that stand as important icons in my fragrance journey, but this is by far the first i can remember.
The first one I ever applied was Dunhil Edition when I was 7, this was my father's signature scent, there was an empty bottle,
I broke it, and I rubbed the inside against my cloth.
The firts ever I bought for myself was a cheapie, called Lexus by Christine Darvin when I was 12, it was marvellous back at that time, but now
it is only a cheap synthetic.

4) One Man Show Gold Edition
5) Kouros (Vintage)
7) Tobacco Vanille

9) More than Words
10) Ungaro II (Vintage)
The first one I bought for myself was Ralph Lauren Polo - that would have been about 20 years ago, when I was around 19-20 years old.
For sure it was Drakkar Noir as a requested Christmas gift from my parents. I remember in my circle of friends Polo and Paco Rabanne were popular, too, but Drakkar was definitely king! Especially being in high school in the early 80's when it came out, it was indeed ubiquitous.
Chaps by Ralph Lauren... basically the only thing available in the mid 80's, besides Brut. Dabbed it on while in the store and remember the cashier gave me a compliment.
An investment in knowledge pays the best interest

The first one given to me, Stetson some time in elementary school. The first I bought was Le Male
Salvador Sali pour Homme, at 14.

In 1989, I was in 5th grade and remembered saving my lunch money my parents gave me each day for a 1oz splash bottle of Davidoff Cool Water.
I used to spray my father's signature scent Fahrenheit in the mid 90's before going on dates with the high school girls. Didn't care for petroleum smell it opened with but adored fresh cucumber that followed (knew zilch about violet leaf back then). Then I grew older but, apparently, dumber because my first purchased bottle was infamous Aqua di Gio (don't judge, I didn't know better:-)
The first cologne I ever bought was Polo Sport. I sprayed that stuff on religiously!
Preferred Stock or Drakkar Noir.
My 1st real fragrance was - as a gift - "Mens Club" from Helena Rubinstein.
Later my first real men's fragrance series - self bought - was in the early 1970s "Etienne Aigner No. 1"
