All of these are expensive blind buy, but I love all of them.

As I am a Serge Lutens Junkie, Chene is now my most favorite from this house.

Now I need to save money for this year vacation and for my master's degree so these might be the last perfume I shop for a while.

How prominent is the patchouli drseid?

I see it voted as the most prominent note over at fragrantica.

Full review coming shortly, but the big standout notes to my nose on skin are patchouli, leathery styrax, carnation, rose and aromatic lavender; supported early by cinnamon spice, tonka bean and creamy smooth sandalwood for a bit of sweetness, with very nice oakmoss rising from the base. Gorgeous!

I never even HEARD about this scent, until I saw it for sale here by another BN member. I snatched it up. I'm a sucker for anything Mysore sandalwood related. It's actually an oil, which is not really my favorite application method, but when it comes to sandalwood most oils are a fairly good representation of the scent. I'm going to wear it tomorrow.

I also got large decants of Bois Farine and Fluer de Liane by L'Artisan Parfumeur. I've been wanting to skin-test these, again, for many years.

And thanks to Parfumerie Bruckner that they included free samples of Aoud No 2, 3, 4,. Aoud No 2 is very nice. Aoud No 3 I can call it Le Male Aoud lol, it's like you combined Aoud No 1 with Le Male, and Aoud No 4 is copy of SoOud Nur.

Great choice! I can't wait to get the original for this spring.

I saw new packaging for this line popping up, which at most times also means new formulation. I haven't had access to a tester to discern any differences, but I'll keep my nose on the front-lines & update BN with any results.

I blind bought this one and was blown away. It's such a beautiful rose. Quite different from the standard oud, patchouli, rose.

Funny but true story behind this one. No kidding.

I wanted to learn more about leather scents. So I purchased samples..Tuscan Leather & Montale's Aoud Leather.
TL arrived first - I thought, "Wow, what a smooth, creamy, almost powdery, slightly sweet scent, hmm, I "see" mild off-white/very light tan color running through my mind..." "almost edible kind of smooth" "So this is what a good leather scent is supposed to be...I can barely pick it up...I pick up spice? cinnamon? oh, must be that raspberry they're talking about..."

Then arrived Aoud Leather. "Wow! Strong! Leather everywhere! Fresh tan/caramel colored baseball gloves...smells medicine-ish..why do I feel like I'm a giant walking band-aid? Completely different from TL.... TL is sooo smooth & creamy...in fact, TL is so smooth, that I think it's nearing goumand area.. . Why does everyone claim these two are similar?

So I sprayed couple of shots of "such a smooth leather, that I can't even detect it" Tuscan Leather. And about an hour later, I decided that I love it, and decided to go to Nordstrom to pick up a bottle.

SAs know me. I told her today, it's Tom Ford. So she wanted to do her demonstration with 6 Tom Ford scents... I didn't tell her that I specifically wanted TL...let's let her do her thing, right? On paper, TL (first card) smelled different. I picked up leather right away. I said, " this smells so different on paper than on my skin".Then after Oud Wood, Noir de Noir, Oud Fleur, etc., the last paper card was Tobacco Vanille. As soon as I sniffed it, I said, "whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up..." Then I just stood there. Confused. Speechless. Two other SA ladies joined in(they know me as well) They said "Takara, what's wrong??" My reply, "Ladies! Smell my neck! What the hell is this?!"

All three ladies confirmed...it is Tobacco Vanille. Apparently, ebay seller sold me wrong Tom Ford scent(hey, the label DID say TL). And apparently, I
    am still a rookie.

LOL. Glad you got that sorted out. Yep, TV was instant-love for me too. I since have moved on to other vanilla scents but when I first tested it I loved it.

Did you sample Tuscan Leather when you were there?

Kalimantan Oud from Aloes of Ish...haven't heard of this seller before...but the description just intrigued me and I bought it on a whim. If anyone has had experience, shoot me a pm.

    first post!

Thanks for sending me down the frangrance rabbit hole, basenotes. My bank account is gonna suffer.

This weekend after weeks of getting samples from various online retailers and visiting south florida retailers, I bought Tom Ford Plum Japonais.

Also got Hanae Mori HiM last weekend (wore the first one for nearly 8 years on and off)

Samples of Amouage, Tam Dao, and others.

yikes....fragrance is quite more involved than I thought!
