Default Velvet Orchid by Tom Ford

New Tom Ford scent, Now Smell This reports:

Tom Ford will launch Velvet Orchid, a new fragrance for women, in March. Velvet Orchid is a followup to 2006's Black Orchid, and will join the Tom Ford Signature line. Other recent fragrances from Tom Ford Signature include Sahara Noir.

Notes for the floriental fragrance include rose, jasmine, and a purple orchid from Brazil.

Tom Ford Velvet Orchid will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.
I wonder if this is a flanker for Black Orchid or a brand new scent?

Thanks for the heads-up. It sounds more traditionally feminine than Black Orchid but I'd like to see a a more complete pyramid of notes.

    Nice bottle!

This sounds interesting to me. I've enjoyed Orchid a time or two.

It's already out? I thought it was to be released in March?

The nordstrom rep I spoke with last night did not have it on their upcoming fragrance releases up till June. The sales rep did say that they still may get it before June even though its not on the list.

Thanks Mikeperez23 for the info. The notes sound great. Wish I know the smell difference between black orchid and velvet orchid and purple orchid. I'll stop by my local Bloomingdales to check it out.

Oh those orchid notes, they're just marketing BS. But, yes I believe the 'velvet' and 'purple' ones are new to this scent...whereas the 'black' one was in Black Orchid.

I hope it smells uniquely different than Black Orchid. I like it when it came out but because of it's nuclear sillage/radiance and the popularity (I smell it on men & women all of the time here in Miami) I got kind of burned out on it.

    Same here Mike.
I went through 2 and a half bottles before it suddenly got really popular.
Had to stop wearing it for exact reason you mention.
I still like getting whiffs of it off of people.

Did you ever smell the parfum hedonist? It's great - simply because it's not so 'loud'. But it's stupidly expensive. I have a teensy sample somewhere in my huge sample pile. Who knows if I could even find it. (sigh)

No never smelled black orchid parfum.

I'm smelling velvet orchid right now.

It's structure is identical to Black Orchid.

    Loud & compelling.

I'm getting flashbacks to Purple Patchouli too.

People who loved BO will at least like VO.

Purple Patchouli, you say? Woo hoo!! I think I was one of only 4 people who liked Purple Patchouli, so now I definitely want to try VO.

Purple Patchouli is one of my favorites too!

But not from a notes perspective.
    They share this roccoco style.

I tried it the other day in an airport and didn't like it, smelt like white patchouli but deeper/darker.

This is a lighter alternative to Black Orchid. I actually like Velvet Orchid. Not as strong and gourmand as Black Orchid.

I am a naysayer here: I'm a fan of Black Orchid but most definitely not a fan of Velvet Orchid. Black Orchid is a great perfume but a bit of mess, teetering well into excess. Velvet Orchid takes that formula and dumps an enormous "bumbleberry pie" type of fruit accord on top of it: the result is less than stellar, and takes something that straddles interesting and tacky and shifts it decisively to the latter category.

If you're expecting a revisit of Velvet Gardenia you will be disappointed.

Its the berries in it that I can't stand because I really like black orchid.

I'm not a fan of Black Orchid, but that's solely on a personal level. I can accept that it's a very well-made, challenging perfume, which is exactly what Velvet Orchid isn't. A very static 'sweet' perfume that only vaguely resembles its predecessor.

I got some samples today and really like it. I cannot stand Black Orchid for some unknown reason I keep smelling cucumber in it.

Velvet Orchid on me is spicy sweet, and I will has nothing to do with the original Black Orchid so to be taken as something apart.

Ha I just re-smelt my Black Orchid and yes that initial hit does produce a sort of fresh straight out the packet cucumber smell!! I never realised before.
