Not an insult per se but I once had 3 engineers (the floor I work on is infested with engineers) walk in in the morning and suddenly stop in thier tracks and sniff the air.
As I was passing by I asked what was going on.
One said, it smells like theres something burning.
Another one started sniffing light switches, he said it smelled like an electrical fire.
    I chuckled and walked away.

I had just walked into office and I had Norma Kamali Incense on. I don't blame them haha.

    lol True story
One time I was wearing TdH EDT and a girl said 'what is that? Is that AXE?????' She didn't mean it in a good way LOL. However, I have also gotten many positive reactions on TdH, and it would still be one of my favorites (if not #1) no matter what. What is it about this one that seems to be so polarizing to women? All my guy friends think it's awesome and I've had random dudes ask me what it was bc they wanted to buy it... weird.

How do idiots smell, I wonder? Evidently she had certain criteria. LOL!

Sadly, I think she was not qualified to judge a Montale. People accustomed to soda pop cannot appreciate a nice fruit juice or wine.

She's a kid from the neighborhood. I was in the supermarket and I stopped to speak to her mom and of course kids are dying to speak when adults are present so she blurted out the first nonsensical thing to come into her head. We all laughed for about 5 minutes

When I was 13 I applied FCUK for him on and when I went I I into school and sat down someone said 'who smells like nit cream?' And he was referring to me. I also recall two instances where I over applied fragrances, Ck Contradiction and Clinique Happy, and two girls in my school made comments as to it being headache inducingly strong. I cut down from 15 sprays soon after.

I've never been insulted, but I received a few comments that really stood out for me.

The first time I tried Dior Homme. I met up with friends for happy hour, and I'll never forget the conversation. My friends kept ribbing me, asking how my date went, as if they already knew. When I said I hadn't been on a date, one of my friends said "I can smell her on you!" Instead of saying "I'm sampling something called Dior Homme" I lied and said "My date was fun." For the record, I hadn't been on a date, but they did think she (lol) smelled great.

The first time I wore Aventus after receiving my bottle, I was really excited about it. The woman I was sort-of seeing at the time (she was actually a really cool ex of mine) came over to hang out, and her question felt like a punch to the gut. She asked if I'd run out of the stuff I usually wore. I'm a smart guy, and I know that if I told her I was wearing was something new I'd bought, she'd know that meant I liked it, and so, she'd probably tell me what she thought I wanted to hear in order to be nice. So, instead, I told her I got a sample of something new and I asked what she thought of it. She said "It's ok, I guess, but it's not as nice as what you usually wear." What did I usually wear around her? CURVE. ...lol. The funny thing is, for whatever reason, Curve has always been a compliment catcher for me.

I had a friend drop by unexpectedly when I was sampling Yatagan and she said "Well that's.... bold." But she kind of liked it. Then again, she''s kind of badass, so I wasn't surprised.

The only negative comment I've ever gotten that I can remember is from Diesel, Fuel For Life. A friend said "I don't think that's you" and I could tell she didn't care for it... but she didn't hate it either. Generally speaking, when it comes to fragrances, I play it safe. By that, I don't mean safe fragrances. I mean, I really get to know a fragrance before wearing it around friends, colleagues, and especially dates!

Various ones over the years. "Who took a chocolate shit?" Whilst wearing A-Men. I've gotten a couple "You smell like an old lady" comments while wearing Patchouli 24. Various others telling me to tone it down.
Your nostrils, which will dilate immesurably in unspeakable contentment, in motionless ecstasy, will ask nothing better for space, for they will be full of fragrance, as if perfumes and incense; for they will be glutted with complete happiness, like angels who dwell in the peace and magnificence of pleasent heaven.

Amouage Gold and Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille have garnered me a pretty hefty amount of negative feedback.

While wearing Gold I was constantly being told I was an old lady, smelled like an old lady and that I should sell it to finance my new life as an old lady. My girlfriend also commented on smelling exactly like her grandmother. For some reason, Gold is no longer in my collection.

Wearing Tobacco Vanille, I really love the first half our or hour, until it turns into vanilla island. And that's also where the problems start for others, and they were interested in telling me. Several comments on smelling like a cheap candle really took the edge off, and I also feel the vanilla drydown to be too intense for me.

I don't think I've ever been insulted. That is, until today.

I was sitting in my cubicle working away when a co-worker came over to ask me something. She stopped right outside of my cubicle, sniffed and asked, "Do you smell that perfume?"

I answered that it was probably me. Her response was, "Oh, that smells awful." I immediately thought of this thread when she said that.

I was wearing Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense.

I almost mentioned that one in the "I Don't Get It" thread. People talk about that one being a compliment getter, but... I don't get it. Then again, I feel the same way about things like Declaration. Ah well... different tastes. There's nothing wrong with that!

This evening, I was testing out Hanae Mori HM, and i asked my wife what she thought.

Her response (after looking suspiciously at my arm where I sprayed it):

"I feel like that's what the cologne from Anchorman probably smelled like."

Looks like it's a good thing I only have a small decant.

There are some hilarious replies in here. "You smell like an idiot," might be my favorite one.

Anyway, I was wearing Invasion Barbare today, a young woman enters the room where I'm working and says, "It smells strange in this room…." "That's coffee" her friend replies (I had just used the coffeemaker). "No, not that …there's something else…it's weird…it's like cheese and balsamic vinegar and sweat."

While wearing LIDGE at a social gathering someone said, "Yo! Did someone step in dog shit? It smells like dog shit in here."

And once when I was wearing Terre d'Hermes I walked past someone and heard him say, "It smells like a horse's ass in here."

I still am not 100% sure those comments were in reference to what I was wearing, but I certainly thought twice the next time I reached for LIDGE and TdH.

I wasn't sure I liked it at first but after wearing it a few times, I really like it.

I hardly ever except from one kid at school, but he's a real $@#% who thinks he's all that so I really don't count his opinion at all. Other than that, people have told me I smell too strong but nothing much other than that.
