Default Orange Battle: Concentré d'Orange Verte vs. Orange Sanguine

    Hey guys,

I currently own a 100ml bottle of Hermés Concentré d'Orange Verte. I really enjoy it, but can live without it. I'm debating whether to swap it for a 200ml bottle of Atelier Orange Sanguine and, as usual, would like your input. Please keep in mind that I have not smelled Orange Sanguine. In your opinion, which is the best orange fragrance of the two and why?

    Thanks for the input!

I've never smelled the Hermes but I will say that Orange Sanguine is the most natural and realistic orange fragrance I've ever smelled.

I prefer COV because it feels zingier and fresher. It's not a straightforward orange, but it has something more acidic (lime etc.). OS is more straightforwardly orangey, good, but a bit flatter to me.

^^^Indeed. Sanguine is a very realistic orange, although personally I like the Hermes better.

If you have a Sephora near you (and it looks like there's only one in San Juan), do yourself a favor and pick up this $18 mini combo. Then you can judge for yourself.

I only own OS and I personally love it. It is, as others have said, photorealistic as you can get. On me, projection and longevity are stellar.

Great deal. Just got off the phone with a rep for Sephora San Juan. Unfortunately, they don't carry anything in the Atelier line. There's not a lot of demand for niche/not big-name designers here I guess (only niche lines I've seen in PR are Creed and Bond No.9). Thanks for the suggestion though... Would've been ideal.

Own both and they're both nice but for a purer and more vibrant orange I'd go with the Atelier.

Same with me. Orange Sanguine is just wonderful!

I'd do that trade. Orange Sanguine is more natural and modern, plus you'll have twice as much juice!

It's all been said...but I like both for different reasons...and, as others have said, OS is incredibly realistic!! Great stuff, both of them!

I find Orange Concentree more interesting as nice as an orange Sanguine is.

OC has a nice leather touch to it in the dry down

    CdOV all the way imo
The Atelier is nice, but a bit dull
Why not try Orange Spice for a 'dirty' alternative

It depends what you are looking for. If you want a very realistic representation of orange, go with Orange Sanguine. It isn't the most interesting fragrance ever created, but it does lend itself well to a lighter wear in Summer and is good for layering with other stuff you want to add an orange note to.

CdOV is not just an orange scent. Depends on whether smelling like 'orange' is important to you. Both are good but if I had to choose between one or the other I would choose the Atelier.

I don't recall which one it were, this or Grand Neroli, but when I tried this line upon initial release, one of them smelled a bit too much like John Varvatos Artisan. Granted, it took me about five minutes standing there sniffing it, thinking to myself I know I've smelled this before it I made the connection.

I personally found all their initial releases to be too derivative of other scents (Oolang Infini smells like Bvlgari Homme) while the quality not worth the price and haven't bothered to smell them since. You may like Miller Harris Tangerine Verte which is an edp and is a much better (and longer lasting version) of Concentré d'Orange.

    You should consider Bigarade Concentre.

Orange Sanguine by far. Hermes does have a new orange one that smells great too, but again, OS is bar the the most natural and best smelling....if you like orange.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?

bringing this topic back, any other suggestions out there for orange fragrances? The two Frederic Malle's I've worn start off great but meh on the dry downs/longevity (Noir Epices, and Bigarade Concentree). I LOVE the genuineness and opening of Orange Sanguine, and find the citrus note lingers for quite a while during the dry down. Like it a lot. Going to try the one OP started this thread for and going to search for some more

LOL! Don't give up that TdH!!! It's a keeper!

I'm also holding onto my CdOV - that one is great when it warms up. I always have several enjoyable wears in the summer!

This! If you want orange-orange, the Orange Sanguine is the one to get. It's miles ahead of anything I've ever tried. And it even has some lasting power, which is a plus. A great fragrance for hot summer days.

Concentré d'Orange Verte "becomes" something besides orange.....as so many of these fragrances do. I don't like what it transforms into. Oddly, Concentré d'Orange Verte is the ONLY fragrance I've ever tried that gave me a rash.

^ That may be coumarin. I seem to recall from somewhere that this fragrance has a lot of it. That is one of the substances getting toned down by IFRA and the EU.

I have a sample of Orange Sanguine coming in the mail, but I've only ever sampled the original Orange Verte. I found the base notes to be a bit old school in the use of moss and patchouli. Does the Concentre have a similar dry down/base?

Hermés Concentré d'Orange Verte- due to the zesty, almost juicy (in a pleasant way) citrus style.
