Thread: Good fougères? |
Which are good fougères to try? Recently sampled Roja Doves "Scandal pour Homme" and loved it - was like Armanis Eau Pour Homme at first, but got fantastic within a few hours. Thinking about buying it. But before I do that, I´d like to try a few more as Scandal is not exactly cheap...
Never really had fougères on my radar, which are some ones to try? I´m only interested in niche fragrances or very high quality mainstream if there are any fitting the bill.

Rive gauche is a must try.
Creeds Millesime 1849 & Houbigant's Fougeres Royales should also be big blips on your radar.

KCCO!
Yves St. Laurent Jazz is one of the most typical and yet quality fougeres out there - not the best in quality because that probably goes to Invasion Barbare, yet I like Jazz more.

Or Black
Rive Gauche pour Homme
Yohji Homme
Jules
Third Man
Azzaro pour Homme
Paco Rabanne pour Homme

Most of them better in vintage formulations when possible

"Thank GOD for the nose, for without it we would not be enjoying these beautiful created Scents" also Remember "Balance is everything and the key to appreciating "
Rive Gauche is still a classic for the cleaner variety of fougeres.
Guerlain Jicky (or Mouchoir de Monsieur) for the warmer ones.
Several (expensive) niche ones already mentioned.

I don't think Geranium pour Monsieur is a fougere. The packaging describes it as an alternative to the fougere, in fact, as far as a men's fragrance which achieves freshness. Not sure how you'd count it as a fougere itself, though, by any standard definition.
Narciso Rodriguez for him EDT
One I really enjoy is Flibustier by Galimard

I'll take the Narciso as well.
Fougere Royale is very good for something special.

TOP TEN FOR FALL/WINTER:
1.) MFK Baccarat Rouge 540
2.) Frank no. 2 LA
3.) Creed Viking
4.) Creed Royal Mayfair
5.) ADG Profumo
6.) Lampblack
7.) New York Intense (parfum)
8.) Fahrenheit
9.) Dusita Issara
10.) Gengis Khan
Honorable Mention: Chanel Sycomore
Wow, quite a "few" to choose from
Thanks, that will keep me busy for a while...
I really enjoy Narciso Rodriguez for Him. It's a modern fragrance in the style of an old school 1980s classic.
Check out the Guerlain masculine re-issues, Derby, Chamade Pour Homme, Heros etc
A few additional suggestions from the 80-90s:
Worth pour Homme
Francesco Smalto pour Homme
Davidoff Relax
Lagerfeld Photo
Guy Laroche Horizon
I have been enjoying Or Black and Patrick of Ireland, lately.
It's a good one. Dig that wet hay/semi-animalic barnyard angle. A substantial fragrance that fits the name. Musky, like any good fougere should be. Lively, organic, uplifting. Love to spray on a lot of it and walk around my property during the transition from winter to spring.

I will pick Calvin by Calvin Klein and Narciso Rodríguez for him
Another vote for

Vintage Fougere Royale is best of course and not anything like the current EdP. For sparkly, mossy, green fougere, try English Fern or Wild Fern. Even some of the barbershop colognes styled "lavenders" are great fougeres as well including Oxford & Cambridge, Atkinson's Lavender, etc.
