Now on the other hand, I hear that incense pure is outdoorsy and airy and therefore could be more wearable and approachable lol.

Very interesting difference re Sahara Noir's performance. Thanks. I honestly can't smell it at all anymore, while IP is still agreeably there. Will put it on hubby to see if it vanishes or projects on him.

I'm a fan of both scents and don't find them all that similar. SN is pure churchy incense from start to end. It doesn't change all that much over time. Lasts all day. IP, as I wrote above, is a very outdoors-y scent, where evergreen and wood are featured prominently. Don't get a church-y vibe from this one at all. And it lasts all day, also. Not much overlap here, and if you like incense, both are worthwhile. I have SN and IP is on my buy list

Thank you James for the info. I'm gonna order a sample of Incense Pure and another of Tabac Aurea (which appears to be very very interesting !).

Good can't wait to read it! I might be crazy for the gourmand take on Rose Volupte, not sure yet. It does smell spicy-berry-mulled-winish to me though despite rose definitely being present. I do really like it, wore it out last night and it was amazing, could still smell it in the morning.

I sprayed: Rose Musc, Jour Ensoleille, Champagne de Bois, Nostalgie, Lieu des Rieve and Velvet Rose on the back of my hands and on my arms and sniffed through the drydown and beyond. To my own surprise, my favorites of this group are Champagne de Bois and Lieu des Rieve. I also like Jour Ensoleille. Tomorrow I'll repeat with the others.

Thanks, ScentFan, for directing us to this House. I am thinking to get busy and investigate and order samples, and sniff, and buy ...

I cannot get rid of the thought that with the forthcoming restrictions via the EU allergy regulations and the general IFRA regulations, that this House could be affected by not having the raw materials anymore to create the glorious scents they do.
    http://www.sonomascentstudio.com/oakmosspop.shtml

Their complete list of ingredients is here:

    http://www.sonomascentstudio.com/ingredientsO.shtml

So I will get busy and order some samples, and possibly full bottle(s).

Champagne de Bois is glorious, I haven't tried the other two yet but am looking forward to it. I try out scents like a homebound troll, not wanting to go out with an untested one. On a related note, my husband has been my captive (literally) audience and contributor since we're both House of Cards addicts. He's ambivalent toward all so far. Wore Narciso Rodriguez for her last night and he acted like a man lost in the desert who had unexpectedly found water. Thinking I should just buy a bottle of Jicky and be done with it from his perspective because that one is a musk bomb on me.

I really want to wear Champagne de Bois again tonight but in the spirit of testing I'm going to go with a new one. Looking forward to it!

I just did it...bought a bottle of Incense Pure. I had to...told myself I wasn't last week. But, there's Free Shipping today on IndieScents, plus I had a $10 coupon code. $72 in total...couldn't pass it up.

Ha!! I got that email from them today, and placed an order for Incense Pure as well. I had a $13 coupon from last order, and with free shipping - came to just $69. They sent me a sample of IP last week and I barely got one sniff of it so far, hardly even full proper wearing, but I liked what I smelled and couldn't pass up on this sale. Woo hoo!! We'll both be able to compare IP to Norma Kamali Incense later this week. ;-)

    Off Topic - somewhat

I think that it is good that she offers rather small sizes. Andy Tauer does the same with his Explorer Sets (l5 ml spray) and they are going like hot rolls.

I got a full wearing of IP. You'll like it. The only question is...will you regret not getting Winter Woods as well :-) I'm really pumped my NK Incense comes tomorrow. So I'm not wearing anything until it arrives at work!

I'm waiting for samples and I have a feeling I will end up with Winter Woods as well. Sounds delish.

Just checked tracking number for NK - it's going to be here tomorrow. Synchronized testing!!

I'm pretty sure Narcisso Rodriquez for her should be labelled a weapon. Against it, do men have a defense? I asked hubby to sniff much of my collection the other day and when he came to that one his eyebrows went up and he said, "Whoa!" then quickly acted normal. It was too late. I saw the reaction he tried to mask.

Back to SSS, I think I'm having different feelings this time around than at first and now I'm wondering why. Is it the weather? The temp got up to 80 here today and I turned off the hvac and let the house air out. On my warmer skin, I do smell an occasional sour note on previous favorites, like someone suggested, especially the florals yesterday. Today I sprayed Rose Volupte, Voile de Violette, Ambre Noir, To Dream, Incense Pure, and Fig tree on hands and arms. All rocked except Rose Volupte which smelled different this time. Again, picking a favorite is hard. IP rocks, of course. So do the rest, esp Viole De Violette, Ambre Noir and To Dream. I still love most of SSS, but different experiences with the same perfume is, to this middling new perfumista, strange.

Is it true that you sprayed six (6) perfumes in one day on your hands and arms? Of course, the odors mingle. You did not wash off one before you sprayed the next?? How can all of these dancing odor modecules be identified properly for each scent?? Just joking.

Yes, I got the idea from watching a famous designer do it in a video. I keep them far apart but it works for me, too.

p.s. Oh, maybe you missed that this wasn't an initial test, but one in which I was comparing scents I'd already sampled and purchased.

Scentfan, I think the fragrances are affected by changes in temperature, humidity, etc. A perfect example for me is Chergui. It is one fragrance on me in the winter and some completely different (and more glorious) in the heat of summer.

For me, I can only wear Winter Woods and Rose Volupte in the fall and winter and Fig Tree and Wood Violet in the spring and early summer. I can wear Voile de Violette year-round.

I'm sure there's a psychological component (as in the kinds of fragrances and notes I'm drawn to during the different season), but I also think there's the physical aspect to it, too -- our skin changes, so does our perception of fragrance. Have you tried spraying on a shirt or sweater rather than skin? Otherwise, you might need to move to San Diego to find a constant

LOL! Thank you so much, ExtremeK. That explains it. I trust my hypersensitive nose and am busily trying to educate it. You just added a whole chapter to its knowledge.

Lot's of (especially top note) citrus, a quieter scent, slightly 'dry', blended well so most individual notes do not stand out. Not too spicy. I think that I like this one out of all her 'Naturals' line so far. Cocoa Sandalwood is just too bitter for my tastes.
As all natural perfumes, sillage isn't powerful and lasting power is scarce. Think skin scent for your enjoyment.

I'd like to try the 'Amber Incense'... keeping in mind that even though it may be an excellent concoction, it is still a 'natural', still having all the drawbacks associated with 'natural' perfumes.

I love Cameo. I don't see anyone mentioning this one, but it is really great on my skin! Long-lasting, with a vintage vibe; rose-violet accord. Here is a link: http://www.sonomascentstudio.com/cameoO.shtml I have received compliments on this one. I tried Incense Pure, even bought a bottle but had to swap it away. It is lovely, well-made but too heavy on my skin. I know that other commenters have said it isn't very churchy, but I found it to be so. Sadly, I never experienced the "outdoors-y" drydown. Anyway, I am a big fan of this line and look forward to sampling more of it.

Mike, I'd give Incense Pure a sniff. Also, Winter Woods. I own and love both. Incense Pure is a straight forward literal interpretation of sappy tree resins while Winter Woods is a warm amber fragrances with other interesting facets intertwined. WW in MIA might be a little much though, not sure your tolerance for Amber fragrances with the humid climate...Incense Pure could be worn all year, however.

^Quoted for truth! I wasn't that impressed by it though so it was slightly awkward watching him describe scent heaven; which he noticed and it just egged him on lol. There was a weird fuzzy cloud of muskyness, but when I actually sniffed the application points it was really pretty. I couldn't get past the cloud factor personally, but since he likes it I'll keep it. Just for the awesome reactions that ensue!

Other people have answered the "why" of this already very well, just adding that I've experienced the same. Going from cold snap to 75+ degree days has confused me scent-wise. My beloved Coco Blanc goes mild spice bomb and loses the creamy factor noticeably in the heat. Oh well, I guess not using it in the Spring/Summer will just make it last longer! I've not yet noticed a change in the SSS ones, but I'm still testing and wearing sure bets in between so I don't doubt that they're victims of seasonal and skin changes! I imagine Rose Volupte gets really confusing in high temps, there's a lot going on that could potentially conflict to my nose!

NOW! For Jour Ensoleille! I have to refer back to Narciso Rodriguez for her because my husband had nearly the same reaction. This one is all that is bright and happy and girly: orange blossom and white flowers with a pretty intense "cloud" akin to "for her" but different. Like a green musk...indole is the culprit I'm guessing? White flowers abound and there is definitely a darker side to this cheery citrus. The contrast with the citrus is interesting in a great way. After 3 hours or so when the citrus is pretty much a whisper (I do get the orange blossom for quite awhile) the oakmoss and cloud factor could give "for her" a run for the money on me. I find this to be a more day/office friendly scent if you're in the market for weapons grade scent hotness.
