Thread: Best leather?
I haven't really sampled a lot of leather based fragrances and I really want to. I just love the smell of a nice leather coat or of a leatherman's shop. I have a sample of Cuir 28 which I do enjoy, but I am interested what else is out there. Thanks!
Others will suggest plenty more...
Cuir de Russie Parfum
Royal English Leather
My one and only "leather" is Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather
Golden Boy Dueto
Mona Di Orio Cuir
Many leather lovers here. Including myself, so some of my favorites in increasing order of butchness:
Chanel Cuir de Russie, Etat Libre d'Orange Tom of Finland: smoothest suede
Knize Ten: elegant-automotive (like a pre war perfumed dandy aristocrat who likes playing with cars)
Aramis-Estee lauder Azuree:confident, all American lived-in leather (the first musky, the second citrusy)
Artisan Parfumeur Dzing: circusy leather
Dior Leather oud: animalic woody
Bandit: s&m black patent leather
Etat Libre d'Orange Rien: intensely animalic
Cuir Mauresque, Tuscan Leather for frags that actually smell like leather.
Leather Oud is an amazing frag even though I dont smell any leather in it.
Want to trade - Chanel Platinum Egoiste for Dior Eau Sauvage...
Butch leather: Knize Ten
Refined, soft and luxurious: Tom Ford Tuscan Leather
"Old money" leather: Guerlain Derby
Somewhat soft and feminine: Chanel Cuir de Russie
Skanky and raw: Dior Leather Oud
Awesome everyday soft and smooth leather: Hermes Bel Ami
Luxurious leather furniture vibe: Parfum d'Empire Cuir Ottoman
Aromatic leather and spices: L'Artisan Parfumer Dzing!
Smoky oud and leather: Montale Aoud Cuir d’Arabie
These are my favorite leathers.
Not my favorite, but a lot of people like this one: Bvlgari Black. To me, it's more "rubber tire" than leather.
Anybody have a sample of Golden Boy by Dueto Parfums?
-- All better in vintage formulations when possible.
Songe d'un Bois d'Ete
Chanel Cuir de Russie
Cuir Pleine Fleur
La Nuit (Paco Rabanne)
Van Cleef &Arpels pour Homme
Oud Cuir d'Arabie
Vie de Chateau

Chanel Cuir de Russie
Varvatos - John Varvatos

Current Top Ten:
1) Polo Crest
2) Chypre Palatin

4) One Man Show Gold Edition
5) Kouros (Vintage)
7) Tobacco Vanille
8) Interlude Man
9) More than Words
10) Ungaro II (Vintage)
favourite is Tuscan Leather, also enjoy Knize Ten, Tom of Finland
vintage favourites Fendi Uomo and Red for Men
It's particularly nice to see Cuir Mauresque get a mention; it gets overshadowed by a lot of the other modern takes on classic leathers.
Delightfully floral and extremely powerful, it's relegated the Knize to 'seldom used' status.
Cuir de Russie, Leather Oud and Xerjoff Homme
Currently my favorite is Hard Leather by LM Parfums.
Remember that while it is perfectly acceptable to criticize the content of a post - criticizing the poster is not.
Mean spirited, nasty, snide, sarcastic, hateful, and rude individuals on Basenotes don't warrant or deserve other individuals' acknowledgement or respect.
My favorite leather is Cuiron by Helmut Lang... Of those currently available probably Puredistance M, Cuir Pleine Fleur, Knize Ten, Derby and Onda Extrait.
Current Top Favorites:
1) Portrait of a Lady original formula (EdP Frédéric Malle)
2) Giorgio for Men vintage/V.I.P. for Men (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
4) Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz) - tie
4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie
6) Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio)
7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)

9) X for Men (Clive Christian) - tie
9) Patou pour Homme Privé (Jean Patou) - tie
9) Oud Shamash (The Different Company) - tie
To me Knize Ten but I did not smell all of them.
It is one of the oldest of them all and still easily wearable nowadays! A very classy scent!

Cuir Mauresque Serge Lutens
Skin on Skin L' Artisan Parfumeur
