I was wondering what your thoughts were on Herod by Parfums de Marly. Now, I don't buy into the hype train that occurs with a lot of the more mainstream type of niche fragrances but this one has peaked my interest. It is described by one Youtube reviewer like a cross between Tobacco Vanille, Pure Havane and Back to Black. I own and love both Pure Havane and Tobacco Vanille and while I really like Back to Black I didn't think it was necessary to own all three. I have been looking to find a sample of this and I managed to find one on the site that I use every so often to sample fragrances that aren't readily available to me. Let me know if you guys have any experience with this fragrance and what you think of it.

Remember that while it is perfectly acceptable to criticize the content of a post - criticizing the poster is not.
Mean spirited, nasty, snide, sarcastic, hateful, and rude individuals on Basenotes don't warrant or deserve my or other Basenoters' acknowledgement or respect.
I think it also smells like Spicebomb, but little less bomb in the spice and little more tobacco. I don't get enough vanilla to compare it with Tobacco Vanille or BtB. I was given a sample when I bought another from this brand and I definitely thought Herod was bottle worthy. Parfums de Marley makes quality products, all the samples I've tried from the line I liked pretty well. Spicebomb clone? Maybe.
in service: guerlain homme l'eau • grimoire • azemour les oranges • h&g eau radieuse • vogue 125 comme des garcons • rasasi faqat lil rijal • arcana rose • rose omeyyade • baccarat rouge 540 extrait • tom ford oud wood intense • camel • z. persian saffron • z. indian spice • bond-t • moonlight patchouli • santa maria novella patchouli
It's a light TV IMO..
Phaedon's Tabac Rouge is a better version..
Well, it doesn't smell like dirty socks. But I do think people are exaggerating a little. It didn't break any molds, and it does actually smell like spicebomb now the someone mentioned it!
"I am more afraid of an army of 100 Sheep led by a Lion than an army of 100 Lions led by a Sheep."
Only if you are fan of TV which I'm NOT!
"Thank GOD for the nose, for without it we would not be enjoying these beautiful created Scents" also Remember "Balance is everything and the key to appreciating "
I don't get TV out of it personally (maybe the vanilla?), but I was able to sample this and really liked it, Ill be picking up a bottle in the future.
It is a very nice scent. To me, it is very similar to TV, but with a little more tobacco. Very nice, but if you have TV, it may be a little redundant to own both.
This one actually smells more like Ambre Narguile with a tobacco note to me than it does TV. That being said, I prefer both AN and TV to this fragrance. Herod is just okay, especially for the price.

Seems to be a lot of mixed reviews on this one. I want to try it but I cant pin down a sample first off and I cant make up my mind if I really want to try it. Is it like TV or not? Vanilla, tobacco, honey??? Which is it and in which order? I only like TV. I cant get by the chocolate chip cookie vibe I smell. The order of these three to me is TV, Pure Havane, and then Back to Black. I absolutely love B2B. Should I try it?
You can order samples from First in Fragrance, that's where I got mine from. It took ~2 weeks for my order and that was over the Christmas\New Years Holiday. I would say it wouldn't hurt to sample it at all, that way you know for sure and the cost would be minimal.
Too soft to be compared with TV, in my opinion. Scent wise, its nice. But for that price range I prefer another houses.

I think it's great and prefer it to TV. TV is basically unwearable for me because of its huge projection. I also find it too sweet. Herod is softer and drier, more masculine as well. You can wear it anyplace you'd wear, say, Pure Havane.
Whats the main player note-wise?
Tobacco I guess.

i sampled it once. spicebomb is the first thing that came to mind. its closer to spicebomb than it is to TV. its more creamy, sweet and full than spicebomb.
Hmmm.....I like Spicebomb too....may have to try this one
I have tried Spicebomb, TV, B2B and Herods.
It is NOT like spicebomb. It is WAAAAY better. It is one of the best cologne; number one in my list along with By Kilian's Incense Oud.
B2B is also very good. TV and Spicebombd are just OK fragrances.
I have never tried Pure Havane; wonder how good that one is.
Too soft and mute to my liking. But the fragrance is fantastic. I hate when they're good but shy.

To me, Herod is a huge reminder of Spicebomb; I have both in the collection. I was kind of bummed by the fact that I only got a 2.5oz bottle of Herod, but when I realize just how close in smell this and Spicebomb really are I felt relief. Both are great fragrance, just not sure if you want both if you have one....
Reminds me of Avant Garde but with better performance. Still doesn't justify the price over just owning the Lanvin.
I probably would have tried out Herod, but I already own Royal Oud, which is an exotic Arabian-type scent that smells like it has tobacco in it and Bvlgari Man in Black that uses black pepper with tobacco. I don't really need a 3rd tobacco-centric fragrance unless it brings something completely new to the table. I've heard/read overwhelmingly good reviews about PDM Herod though.

Great scent, I think its its own beast and isnt redundant to anything I can think of. As for what its compared to most often.. Pure havane, maybe only once it dries down a smidge .. As for spice bomb I think this is the most similar as there is the same sorta thickeness when smelling to much of it at once as its transitioning for awhile, but again its not a scent that I think is redundant to anything else. As for the TV, I dont really get that at all and I think TV is a better scent. But for what its worth all that being said, im tempted to say in terms of compliments if thats what youre going for herod actually might be better though.
I own Spicebomb and I don't think Herod smells signficantly like Spicebomb. I only have a small decant of Herod, so maybe I am smelling something totally different than you guys, but I don't really get any strong similarities to frags people mention. To me, Herod starts out smelling like Cherry Robitussin...It has a distinct synthetic cherry note with some bitterness. I do not find it pleasant at first. However, after about 1.5 hours the dry down is very enjoyable with a nice warmth of vanilla, cherry (no longer unpleasant), and a very small touch of tobacco. However, Herod does not project well for me and longevity is middling at best.
If you want a tobacco fragrance, I think Tabac Rouge (amazing), Tobacco Oud, and TV are all much better. If you specifically want a sweet tobacco, then TV is your best bet, in my opinion.
I love me some Herod. I have the older darker juice too. Gets me a great many hours of performance
If you like gourmand fragrances, this might be for you.
I like it, but I don't get any tobacco from it
very good and less cloyingly sweet than some of the alternatives. thumbs up!
I have a bottle and I honestly love it even though it doesn't last as long as others claim it to be. On my skin, it lasts a nice 5-6 hours and it's a nice soft, sweet, tobacco smell. It is very different than Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille as I find that Tobacco Vanille isn't as sweet.
