Default Niche fragrance testing (samples) - PT.3

    Ok, guys!

Iīll start this topic not to initiate my reviews yet (will need two more days to end Womanīs part of PT.2), but to state some points that Iīve been considering for PT.3.

First major difference: I wonīt use the "Scent Masculinity" parameter on this part. Fear not, I will update all the results of PT1&2 without it, too. A beautiful scent, even too feminine, is still beautiful, so I think it shouldnīt be "lowered" just because itīs not masculine enough. I may, however, state that I wouldnīt buy or use it because of that fact.

Buysblind suggested some other possible parameters: price, compliment factor. The latter is tricky to evaluate, specially here, where I live. Women (or men) are not prone to opine easily to others fragrances. Yes, I get some compliments, but rarely. Most of the times the feedback I have is based on my questions which may be, as you know, not accurate. So, price, this I may consider on the reasons I may state for the "Would I buy it?" parameter.

Feel free to make suggestions. Iīll see if their are possible to do!

Looks like the changes you're planning for the next set of reviews are fine.

    Alright, fellows! Letīs start PT.3!

    ------------> Kerosene Unknown Pleasures (EDP)

I must say Kerosene was one of the houses I was most eager to test and Unkown Pleasures was one of the fragrances! So, what do I have to say about it? This is a very agreeable gourmand with a good blend between critus (Lemon and bergamote) and caramel, vanilla, tonka bean and honey (personally, I donīt get the tea). The opening is a blast of citrus along with a certain sweetness, holding like that for a bit. After that, it becomes a sweet (maybe a little too much) scent. Caramel, vanilla are quite noticeable. I can see why some people say it reminds Allure Edition Blanche, although I find them different. I do think, however, the latter is way better in terms of performance.

Unknown Pleasures is a nice gourmand, harmed by the performance department. Alhough I had 10h of longevity, projection is spotty and holds for about 2-3h. Sillage is a bit less than moderate.

In spite of all the citruses, I wouldnīt wear this fragrance easily during Summer. Iīd say itīs fairly versatile during the other seasons, specially Fall and Winter.

Interesting gourmand, with quality ingredients, but not my favorite.

    Scent: 8.95
    Longevity: 8.80
    Sillage: 7.65
    Projection: 7.30
    Uniqueness: 8.00
    Versatility: 7.70
    --- Overall: 8.08

Would I buy it? Yes, although not a priority.

I do like this fragrance. I must say, however, that Iīm not blown away. 100 ml cost about $180, which is an interesting price. I guess I would.

Next fragrance: Bond no. 9 Andy Warhol Sucess is a Job in New York

    Hi, Flatbush Ave!

Well, I measure according to the time I can smell it projecting and HOW it projects. Then I use the my scale to do it.

I must say, however, itīs the most tricky parameter to assess, because of quantity vs quality issue.

Yeah thats tricky because with a frag like Aventus you may not smell it after some time, but others can.

Yes, thatīs possible, although Iīm being able to detect it so far, mostly at the time that it starts fading way.

    Hi, guys!

-------------->Bond No 9 Andy Warhol Success is a Job in New York (EDP)

This house was in my mind for a while. After seeing so many reviews I got 15 samples of several fragrances. First Bond tested and I glad to have started with such a nice one. This is a great fragrance! Vanilla here, not cloying, not annoying. Just the right one. Florals, fruits, spices. So well blended! The opening is strong, but not harsh. This is a non-linear fragrance that leans a bit toward the feminine side, I think. Starts citrusy and spicy, evolving to a sweet floral heartnotes and a goumandish drydown. Great!

Perfomance: about 14h of longevity, 3-4h of projection, with moderate to heavy sillage.

Best time and situtions to wear? Fall-Winter and Spring. Iīd say this is a fragrance Iīd wear in most situations, although not at work or formal situations.

Quality scent. Very good fragrance from Bond No 9.

    Scent: 9.25
    Longevity: 9.30 (14h)
    Sillage: 8.15
    Projection: 8 (4h)
    Uniqueness: 8.10
    Versatiliy: 7.70
    --- Overall: 8.42

    Would I buy it? Yes.

Although in the pricey side (~$240), I would buy it. Although leaning toward the feminine side, this is overall a great fragrance.

    Hello, guys!

------------> Frapin 1697 Absolu de Parfum

I have good news and bad news. Iīll start with the good ones: this is a very good unique scent from Frapin! Although having a bit harsh opening, 1697 is quite of a pleasant scent. However, I can see some peolpe hating the opening. It may be not easy for some. A boosy vanilla with warm spices woody notes. The dried fruits are clearly present, also. So far, Iīd say this is a must. Unfortunetly, why isnīt it for me? Well, because of the bad news: Performance is bad! Although having kind of an intoxicating opening, about 1h later the fragrance starts fading away, becoming a close to the skin scent about 2 h later. From then on, every time I wanted to smell it, I had to sniff my wrist. Longevity was about 5-6h, which is merely average. Sillage is soft to moderate.

1697 is an unique quality scent that best suits for cold weather, but even then, it may be not an easy fragrance for others, specially in the first 30 min-1h.

Very disappoint with its performance on my skin, as this is a beauty, in my opinion.

    Scent: 9.22
    Longevity: 6 (5-6h)
    Sillage: 7.15
    Projection: 6.20 (~2h)
    Uniqueness: 8.25
    Versatiliy: 7
    --- Overall: 7.31

    --Would I buy it? No!

Well, as you can imagine, Iīd not buy a $215 fragrance with such a bad performance. A shame, really.

    Finally pt3!

Personally I preferred your reviews with that parameter, but I understand itīs not essential for fragrance assessment quality.

    Hi, Lem!

Really excited with this fragrance list. So far, just one disappointment and only regarding performance.

    Keep posting.

    Hi, guys!

    ---------> Montale Aoud Musk (EDP)

I ordered Aoud Musk based on so many good reviews. The idea present was: either youīll love it or hate it. Guess what…neither one nor the other, in my case. This is not a bad scent, far from that, but itīs not a masterpiece, at least in my opinion. This is a very strong fragrance, like all other Montale I tested. The opening is quite intoxicating and a bit harsh. Aoud Musk is a woody spicy oud bomb, with musc. The saffron here is nice. The best part of this fragrance is the drydown, which is very good. So, am I disappointed? Maybe a bit, given all the hype around it.

    Regarding Perfomance:

    - Longevity: 15h
    - Sillage: Heavy
    - Projection: ~5h

In my opinion, thereīs nothing awesome here. A nice scent, with a great performance, that works during cold weather. However, I think this one wonīt suit many ocasions. Not suitable for work, date or formal situations, in my opinion.

    Scent: 8.25
    Longevity: 9.5
    Sillage: 8.60
    Projection: 8.50
    Uniqueness: 7.85
    Versatiliy: 6.25
    --- Overall: 8.16

    Would I buy it? No.

Even knowing that 100 ml is about $150, which I find quite affordable, I wouldnīt buy it. Nothing special here, Iīm afraid.

    Hey, Duke!

Guess I was obvious, my friend. Letīs see:

"(...)This is not a bad scent, far from that, but itīs not a masterpiece, at least in my opinion. (...) The best part of this fragrance is the dry down, which is very good. So, am I disappointed? Maybe a bit, given all the hype around it."

So, I think itīs clear I think this is overall a pleasant scent, although not AWESOME as the hype made me believe so. The only thing I said was that, in spite of thinking itīs a good scent, itīs not a masterpiece, in my view. Thereīs a difference between this and saying that I donīt like it. And although being nice, itīs not nice enough for me to buy it, simply because, even thought I recognize itīs a good scent, I may not want to buy it for several reasons.

So, I do think that Aoud Musk deserves 8.25, why? Overall, itīs a nice and pleasing scent. Period! Nothing more than that. Not an overwhelming, fantastic or awesome fragrance as the hype lead me to believe. But hey, like I always say: to each his own.

    Take care!

    Hi, guys!

----------> Bond No 9 Astor Place (EDP) <----------

This is a beautiful scent. Floral, woody musk fragrance. Violet leaf and freesia are very nice, here. The middle notes are the most interesting part, in my opinion, being the dry down also quite interesting. The opening is citrusy and floral, being a bit harsh. This is quite fresh, as I only were this during Spring and Summer. On my skin this baby did a great job. I must say I was surprised with the performance!

Astor Place isnīt an unisex fragrance in my opinion. It leans clearly toward the feminine side. From what Iīve seen, that are lovers and haters. I think Iīm somewhere between them, leaning toward the first ones.

    Regarding Performance:

    - Longevity: 15h
    - Sillage: Moderate to heavy
    - Projection: 4h

    Scent: 8.79
    Longevity: 9.5
    Sillage: 8.20
    Projection: 8
    Uniqueness: 7.5
    Versatility: 7.5
    --- Overall: 8.25

Would I buy it? Probably not.

In spite of being a beautiful scent, having a good performance, this is a feminine fragrance. I know the purists say we should wear what we want. That a matter of opinion. As there are some unisex fragrance I wear, even leaning to the feminine side, I guess itīd be harder to wear this one. So, taking in account that this fragrance costs around $280, I wouldnīt easily buy it.

----------> Heeley Esprit du Tigre (EDP) <----------

I was too curious about Esprit du Tigre. The notes suggested this could be a fragrance I could not like. However, the opposite happen. I really like it! A spicy aromatic beauty. I must confess that the opening may me think that I could not enjoy it, as it was not the best part. However, after 10 min, the scent really evolved into a really pleasant spicy scent. Cloves (which I tend no to like), cardamom, pepper with a minty vibe was very agreeable to smell. The drydown is also very agreeable. Funny to verify that sometimes I had kind of a "Sel Marin" vibe, although the fragrance are quite different. This is a all year around fragrance, to me. Although not wearable in all situation, I consider it versatile because of that. The problem this fragrance has on me is Projection.

    Regarding Performance:

    - Longevity: 10h
    - Sillage: Soft to moderate.
    - Projection: ~2h

    Scent: 8.96
    Longevity: 8.80
    Sillage: 7.30
    Projection: 6.70
    Uniqueness: 8
    Versatility: 7.80
    --- Overall: 7.93

Would I buy it? Probably not.

Although Esprit du Tigreīs price is very affordable, about $165 (€120) for 100 ml (3.4 fl.oz.), having a fragrance with a bad projection makes me wonder if Iīll buy it. A shame, really, because I like this!

You will be very pleased with your PK perfumes. They are very high quality. I just received a few samples and am still testing them but the Zaffran is unlike any suede Ive ever smelled before and the Gold Leather was very nice also. Between PK and Matriarch that I just recently received, ive hit the jackpot. Top notch ingredients!

    Hi, guys!

    ----------> Le Labo Vetyver 46 (EDP) <----------

Le Labo! A house I love. This is the 5th fragrance I test. This is a house I really respect a lot because of the top quality of scents. Vetyver 46 is a great one. Yes, it reminds me a lot of CdG 2 Man, although they are not the same. The major difference here is performance, clearly. Although considered as an unisex fragrance , this a masculine scent, quite much, in fact. Funny to see that is spite of the name, vetyver is not dominating as a note. I see this as a smoky spicy woods. This is beautiful, really. Excelent for Fall and Winter. Iīd even wear it during spring coldest days. Versatile fragrance, indeed.

    Regarding Performance:

    - Longevity: 12h
    - Sillage: Moderate.
    - Projection: 3-4h

    Scent: 9.35
    Longevity: 9
    Sillage: 8
    Projection: 7.80
    Uniqueness: 8
    Versatility: 8
    --- Overall: 8.36

    Would I buy it? Yes.

I canīt avoid thinking and comparing Vetyver 46 with CdG 2 Man prices. Letīs see:

    CdG 2 Man:
    50 ml (1.7 fl.oz.) - $78 (€58);
    100 ml (3.4 fl.oz.) - $105 (€78).

    Le Labo Vetyver 46:
    50 ml (1.7 fl.oz.) - $160 (~ €120);
    100 ml (3.4 fl.oz.) - $240 (~ €178).

CdG 2 Man is a clear buy for me, but Vetyver 46 is also. I do think that Vetyver 46 is better, as in terms of scent, as regarding performance. So, even with a price considerably higher, I would buy it.

    Hello, guys!

    ---------->Bond No 9 Riverside Drive (EDP) <----------

Riverside Drive has all the notes I though itīd make me love it. Well, although I like it, I donīt think itīs a WOW scent. One more case of “itīs agreeable scent, but nothing more than that”. I do not get the pineapple, here, itīs more of a spiced woods fragrance. Oak moss and sandalwood are noticeable, as is basil. A good scent, but I must say thereīs where it ends. And yes, I expected more from this fragrance, mostly regarding scent. Performance, could be better, also.

    Regarding Performance:

    - Longevity: 10-11h
    - Sillage: Soft to Moderate.
    - Projection: 2-3h

    Scent: 8.58
    Longevity: 8.40
    Sillage: 7.60
    Projection: 7.30
    Uniqueness: 7.75
    Versatility: 7.70
    --- Overall: 7.92

    Would I buy it? No.

I wouldnīt pay $250 (€185) for 100 ml of a fragrance that does not have good projection and sillage. Plus, in spite of having a good and interesnting scent, itīs not a WOW one also.

Before ordering the sample, when I saw the reviews regarding Cruel Intentions, I got really excited. The good things said about this fragrances are all true, EXCEPT, performance (sillage and projection, to be more exact). But weīll come to this later. So, Cruel Intentions is a beautiful combination of quality ingredients. Vetiver, rose, oud (those I detect more, and vanilla) are great here, in a combintation that has many more ingredients. Itīs not offensive, and a perfect fragrance for Fall mostly, although I could be also easily wear during Winter. Another great scent from this house.

Although it lasted for about 11-12h, on my skin there projection is very weake and sillage not that great.

    Regarding Performance:

    - Longevity: 11-12h
    - Sillage: Soft to Moderate.
    - Projection: 2h

    Scent: 9.18
    Longevity: 8.80
    Sillage: 7.50
    Projection: 7.30
    Uniqueness: 8.25
    Versatility: 7.85
    --- Overall: 8.15

    Would I buy it? No.

This is really annoying, because this is a unique and a very good scent. But for 2 h of shy projection, I would not pay $255 (~€185) for 50 ml.

    Well, guys, Iīm back!

    Today we have:

    ---------->Bond No 9 Perfume <----------

Oh boy, letīs go: Bond No 9 Signature Perfume was a let down. Why? Is it because of performance issues? No, far from that. The reason is that, I think this fragrance is kind of "Meh...!". In fact, on my skin it has a "cleaner" vibe...! Nothing special here, specially if we look at the price! Oud, Rose, Musk and Tonka Bean. Ok, maybe my nose is not good enough (a strong possibility), but the Oud here seems to go way quickly...! The drydown is a little better in my opinion, but overall this scent is far from convincing me. Iīm not saying itīs bad, no. Just saying that I donīt find any "WOW" aspect on it.

The best part of this fragrance is performance. In fact, the only positive aspect, I believe. In my opinion, it also leans to the feminine side.

    Regarding Performance:

    - Longevity: 13h
    - Sillage: Moderate to Heavy.
    - Projection: 4h

    Scent: 7.48
    Longevity: 9.15
    Sillage: 8.30
    Projection: 8
    Uniqueness: 6.5
    Versatility: 7
    --- Overall: 7.74

    Would I buy it? No!!!

I wouldnīt pay $340 (€250) for a fragrance that, in spite of having a good performance, doesnīt have a good scent. Simple as that.

    ---------->PK Perfumes Gold Leather<----------

Ok, guys, time for the first PK Perfumes fragrance.

Gold Leather can be defined as a modern leather fragrance, completely. The ingredients here a top notch and the scent is really unique. Gold Leatherīs opening is kind of intoxicating, fresh and having hints of a boozy bitter almond to my nose. The fragrance is strong and projects really nicely. There are some ingredients quite unexpected as smoke tree, satsuma guava and fossilized amber. The dry down is quite agreeable. I could smell tuberose, jasmine, tobacco and benzoin, but I must say this scent is really complex! Although I could tell there are woods and spices here, I couldnīt identify more than these notes. This fragrance is really a modern creation.

Iīd says itīs unisex, not leaning to any gender specifically. The fragrance is unique, and may be a bit challenging to some, as it could not be easy to use in certain occasion. I think it suits better Fall and Winter, although it can also be used in some Spring days.

    Overall, really interesting.

    Regarding Performance:

    - Longevity: 12h
    - Sillage: Moderate to heavy.
    - Projection: 4h

    Scent: 8.95
    Longevity: 9
    Sillage: 8.20
    Projection: 8
    Uniqueness: 8.50
    Versatility: 7.45
    --- Overall: 8.34

    Would I buy it? Yes.

60 ml cost $160 (~€117), which I think itīs a good price for such a quality and unique scent. So, yes, I would buy it.

    Hi, guys!

    ---------->Bond No 9 Coney Island (EDP)<-----------

Ok, I think this may be a love or hate fragrance. Guess what? I love it! This is Summer in a bottle! Great notes, here. Margarita mix, lime, melon guava, cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, cedarwood (I donīt get the chocolate, to be honest). This is great! The opening although sharp and strong is very pleasant, citrusy, boozy with salty hints. The dry down, although different (sweet and woody) is also very, very good. This is quite unique that has a beach vibe. For some this could be hard to wear, but not for me. I really enjoyed wearing this, even now, during Winter.

This fragrance is clearly for Summer, although I would use it easily during hot Spring days. Itīs fairly unisex. In spite of being strong at the beggining, it begins to fade away about 2 h later, although it projects nicely for about 3h. Iīm sure that during Summer it will be quite different.

Overall, another great choice for Summer! Love this.

    Regarding Performance:

    - Longevity: 13h
    - Sillage: Moderate.
    - Projection: 3-4h

    Scent: 9.33
    Longevity: 9.15
    Sillage: 8
    Projection: 7.80
    Uniqueness: 8.60
    Versatility: 7.60
    --- Overall: 8.41

    Would I buy it? Yes!!!

Although 100 ml cost $285 (~€195), Iīd really buy this great fragrance.

Out of all the fragrances I tested, Coney Island wow'd me the most.

A few months ago, I placed a card sprayed with CI in my pocket. And on my way home I kept getting a whiff of the scent trail. The best way to describe CI is it smells like an Orange margarita. This is the most unique fragrance I've experienced.
