Exclamation Time to check in on those 2014 fragrance resolutions!

Man, I hope everyone is doing better than myself so far! Was supposed to cut WAY back on buying bottles this year, but just bought my 13th! bottle for this month that's not even over yet.(I buy quite a few usually, but this is ridiculous for me ) The good news is the rest of my resolutions have held up well in this first month of 2014....so that's something! How's everyone else doing?

I don't keep track of how much I buy each month but it's quite a lot. January 2014 doesn't seem to be much different than any of the preceding months in 2013.

I've no business posting here as I'm not a big purchaser, so though I don't keep up with it, I'm trying to keep my meager collection to those that totally wow me in some way. Some day I'd like to make one when I have the time and put my chemistry knowledge to good use. Funny huh? Instead of saving the world, I'd rather bring happiness one fragrance at a time lol. That would be a dream job for sure. Hopefully someday I can dedicate a larger area to expand as well. Fun to think about.

I've been doing pretty good. I cut back on my sample buying to mentally process what I had so far; Been rotating my current FB's in; One reasonable blind buy while in the city last week. Got a birthday coming up, so I think I might get a couple tidbits there :-)

Doing well here; haven't bought anything though have received a couple of bottles as gifts.

I did buy a new car though... does that count?! Got bored of my old one after less than 6 months. Maybe fragrance is safer after all!

That would be pretty amazing to be able to make your own scent! Imagine the pride you'd feel when someone complimented you and asked what it was you were wearing and you could say "I actually made it, it's my own special blend" So rad! No need to save the world, putting a smile on someone's face is a pretty good place to start IMO!

Oh wow! Ok this makes me feel better about my measly bottle purchases. I gotta admit, I've had the new car bug for a couple years now....but keep resisting. But I've had mine for 7yrs, so I'll be due here in the not too distant future. Only 6 months huh? If you don't mind me asking, what was the boring car you got rid of and what did you put in its place?

It's not even that the car was boring, I just got bored of it! Just replaced my BMW 735i with a Jaguar XJ8. I'm rely a Jaguar man, but have flirted with BMWs for a few years, starting with the X5 to fit both kids in easily, but it was far too petrol hungry. My wife is banning me from buying a new car for at least 2 years.

Congrats on the pick, the new xj's are gorgeous! A fella around town has a black one and the first time I saw it a couple years back I literally just stared mouth agape as it drove by. And your right, nothing wrong with a 7 series at all...but when compared to the brilliant design work of Ian Callum?! I mean, COME ON...not even in the same league. I'm so glad to see Jag back in the game, making relevant cars in a new image of British luxury. I'd give my left one for a F-type I just hope the build quality is better than the '84 xj6 a buddy of mine had in HS. Beautiful to look at and very nice driving as well...when it ran that is.lol

I never bother making resolutions to do with fragrances any more as I know I'd break them. I have bought 11 bottles so far in January as collecting is so addictive

LOL! Nice one Tony! Which bottle did you just buy?
As for me, I just got in to collecting so I knew it was no used for me to put a restraint on how much I would spend. However, I am doing really well with my resolution that if I can find a bottle of it to test in the area I will! And by test I mean wear it around at least 1 full day. It has really eliminated some fragrances that have great top notes but then either do not last or really change in to something mediocre.

    I've bought 3 or 4. BUT, I have a new plan...

I have tabulated that I spend $160 a month on average. That includes mostly impulse buys that I never keep. With that in mind...

    Here's my plan:
    1. One GREAT scent per month
    2. Budget of $160
    3. Purchases limited to first weekend of each month
    4. Keep a short list to plan with

I really think I can do this. Builds some anticipation and keeps my collection in check (23 bottles currently). We'll see how it goes.

Bought nothing! Not even a sample but I was gifted a small decant for my birthday. I don't want to buy anything until and if Fragrancenet has another sale on Amouage, then all bets are off. Honestly, I am finding my collection has hit critical mass and it seems to get more is rudundant.

If you like sweet, tropical rum scents, then you should definitely pull the trigger on Joop Wild...I'm really happy I finally got it, good stuff!

I haven't bought anything yet - not even samples. But, even more importantly for my resolution: I've been rediscovering what I have. I'd completely forgotten how nice of a scent Play Intense is. The bottle is so awful - so juvenile - but the scent really is quite nice. It's dark but not heavy, and sweet but not cloying. And it's quite nice in the winter.

Rediscovering what you have is KEY. I grew tired of amassing bottles that I hardly ever reach for. That's why I'm down to 23 and I plan to buy only 1 great scent per month, rather than the 4 or 5 mediocre ones i've been buying per month. If I don't wear them, I want them gone. My 30 bottle limit is my critical mass for regular pruning.

Absolutely - a period of fragrant abstinence can often trigger a renewed appreciation. I made a decision to become reacquainted with a number of my infrequently used scents and have only purchased one full bottle so far this year.

Been doing good so far, haven't purchased anything other than a 10ml decant in the last 4 months and actually boxed up 5 bottles to give away to some relatives. I am in the market for something new, however, and will be ordering about a dozen samples over the next week. Trying to limit myself to no more than 4 new bottles this year.

I've only bought one bottle this year, Creed Royal Oud. I'm trying to limit my purchases to only the scents that I absolutely love, which is tough because there are a lot of likes.
    Top 10:
    Creed Green Irish Tweed

Didn't buy anything yet this month, not because of a resolution but because most if not all recent releases have been uninteresting and crappy so more money saved, which is a good thing!

I had a vague plan to buy only 4 new bottles this year, that lasted about 3 weeks... so far I have purchased 6 bottles and 2 decants. So much for that plan!
