Question Name your Holy Grail. Have you found it yet?

Someone said if we keep trying more frags after we've found our 'Holy Grail' then all we have is a collection of favorites. Maybe... So if you had to pick one, what would you consider the ideal one you could stop with? Mine is Caron-French Can Can, parfum from the French Boutique. if I had to only wear one scent from now on (theoretically) this would be it.

Hmmm, this is a hard question to answer. I suppose the closest to that right now might be L'Heure Bleue. But there are so many favorites. Maybe I can't have a single favorite. I'm guessing that is true as I am a woman who very much enjoys change.

The two that I find to be holy grail material out of hundreds of scents are vintage Amouage Homage and Balenciaga Pour Homme. Both I would give a perfect ten out of ten!

I have actually come to realise that I don't have a holy grail. If I had to pick one it would probably be Cartier Declaration.

Some of you may still be searching, which is fine. Personally, I've found several, but I've been at this a long time.

Probably Mitsouko and Calandre, although I have used Bellodgia for the longest time
(my first bottle at the age of 13 was a bargain buy at US$ 5.40 for 15 ml pure perfume; it was love at first sniff).

Absolue Pour le Soir comes close, and is definitely my favorite for winter.

Possibly my HG is going to be Géranium Pour Monsieur, especially for summer.
Haven't spent enough time with it yet but so far it does seem to light up my circuits like no other.

    Yohji Yamamoto Yohji, the original.

I found it in 1998, and when I learned it was discontinued I hunted for the last bottles but also started to look for an alternative for the future. Never managed to found one to take Yohji's place, but my collection kept growing.

I have many favorites, currently Amouage Epic is at the top of my list. I just don't grow tired of it and it works so well with my skin chemistry. But in reality my holy grail is the love of fragrances and the search for good ones from a seemingly endless number of choices. The search is my holy grail.

I fall into the 'there are a few' demographic

L'Heure Bleue stands alone, for sure.

But in terms of 'happily wear for days on end' then Sous le Vent, L'Heure Fougueuse and (more recently) Cuir d'Oranger are contenders.

Tiffany for Men and Patou Pour Homme, definitely.

Don't really believe in a Holy Grail fragrance. I never wear the same thing two days in a row, too many good fragrances to use. If I had to pick one that I would be forced to wear on a daily basis, at this point I would say Equipage. Beautiful, comfortable and to my nose, classy. That being said, I would not say it is my best fragrance, if that makes sense!

Holy Grail is perhaps too strong a label for me, but it is fantastic.
Oddly, I found myself defending it to a well known perfumer last year who considered it 'incomplete' by comparison with La Treizième Heure.

I've been at this for a long time as well. Don't think I'll stop looking (or until I'm declared bankrupt!) but so far it will have to be between:

Well, I have a few favorites

    Creed Spice & Wood
    Creed Aventus

    by Kilian Incense Oud

But since I rarely wear any one of those more than once every 6-8 weeks, I guess they really couldn't be considered "Holy Grail" scents.

I think I've found a handful of holy grails. I'm at 30 fragrances right now and tried and got rid of many and I am happy with my small collection mostly of designer fragrances. There are still some I am waiting in the mail to arrive but the ones I already have and tried have been delightful and I am really trying to stop myself from buying more because most fragrances will be a disappointment when it all comes down to it.

I think the term 'Holy Grail' means something different to each of us. We don't need to take it too seriously. It's only a hypothetical question. An interesting one, though. Most of us are always searching for the 'perfect' scent. Even when we think we may have found it, we can't stop trying more.

Well actually, thinking about it, my Dad only ever uses Old Spice so it is his 'holy grail'.

However, he is blissfully unaware that other mens fragrances exist so it doesn't really count

Great choices. I picked up Dior Vetiver somewhat on a whim last month since it's becoming scarce, but not until I wore it for a full day did I appreciate just how pure and beautiful it is. Now I'm very, very grateful I followed that whim. Already among my very favorites.

As for my own "holy grail" -- well, like others, I don't think there's just one. I'm tempted to say Jubilation XXV, since it works so well on me. Or vintage Fahrenheit, for the same reason.

This I Sir copied and pasted it from my recent review and interpretation of it at fragantica : enjoy this frag is like no other as the Jasmine , ylang, saffron are felt very much so all through the mids to lows and hard to describe, I've try as best as I can but this stuff it's an experience on its own right; basically it's like trying to describe a roller coaster ride to someone that has never felt the rush of adrelyne......

Yes, I do get the deep opulent citrus vibe like no other in the start and felt and sense that that the ylang ylang with Jasmine and honeyed amber over ruled the oud to a degree and the rose is definitely a star in the midst...very linear once opening is done with with afore mentioned notes being the stars and very linear from mids to base and consider this frag a special ocassion type of juice and should be experience at least once if you consider yourself a fume head and will give this juice a five out of five for its development from opening to base and it's deep rich discreet oud dipped or better yet sautéed in a honey bee coat of Amber in a rose garden next to a nectar tree....very unisex and anyone could make it theirs.....just Gorgeous....btw 3 sprays and got 12 + hrs and became a skin scent about the 12hr but it definitely projected about 3-6 ft in 12 hr range and about 1/2 foot when it became a skin scent and still well felt next morning , a beast in reality if you ask me and worth the price if you can afford it or save up for it...it's FBW .....Cheerios

Dior Ambre Nuit is what I consider to be my favourite scent and my personal "holy grail." There are many scents close behind and others that I love very much but so far Ambre Nuit wins me over.

I don't think the main point of this hobby is to find a "holy grail" but to explore and try as much as you can to expand your horizons and witness the art and beauty of different scents. I get excited when I try new things, old vintage bottles and visit previous fragrances that I maybe ignored or paid little attention too. It's a never ending cycle and thats what I love about this hobby.

Agree 100%! I do not think that I will ever truly find a "holy grail" perfume because I am moving forward

I am fickle fickle fickle. I love all my fragrances but Yosh La Contessa, Gobin Daude Seve Exquise and Jalaine Vetiver have been favorites for many years. More recently, I've been bowled over by Bruno Acampora Nero and Garner James Cathedral in Flames and expect these to remain favorites for many years too.

I suppose I rather reject the idea of a Holy Grail - I guess I don't really get the point. It just doesn't sound like much fun to me since I love loving *lots* of perfumes. Like other posters here I have *many* favorites, but I simply would never be able to or want to choose just one of them.
Science is not only compatible with spirituality, it is a profound source of spirituality. That opinion gets my vote too.

Every now and then I think I've found it, but then I sniff something else and fall in love all over again, and sometimes I fall back out of love again too. I'd hate to hate to stop sniffing new things- reaching the buffers at the end of the line of fragrances would be just dreadful.

Fully agree, Evangeline, you wouldn't like to wear the same dress all the time, would you? The same with perfumes. I choose them in accordance with my mood, the weather outside, my outfits, the seasons, and the environment where I wear it. As I like or even love my wardrobe, the perfumes are part of this wardrobe; they constitute a way of expressing my individuality.

That's a good point. I have a Holy Grail, what I consider the "perfect" fragrance, which is Mitsouko. Then... after that I feel compelled to search out other Holy Grails... Like the Skin-scent Holy Grail... Or the Rose Holy Grail... Or the Summer Holy Grail. I think we can allow ourselves some sub-categories here

I haven't found "the perfect perfume" yet, but I've only just begun my fragrance journey so it's only expected. I do search for it based on categories though (orange blossom holy grail, magnolia holy grail, etc). My goal is to eventually have a tailored wardrobe of about 25 bottles, my holy grails for each category and a few runner-ups.

Yup. I think I would find room to carry this one out of the house if it was burning down - irreplaceable.
