I did Mandragore Pourpre but it did not stop from adding more perfumes.
Very hard to say but it would be a rotation of M7, Montecristo, MKK, Leather Oud, and my new love Absolu Pour Le Soir
I did Mandragore Pourpre but it did not stop from adding more perfumes.
Proud owner of Creed's Original Vetiver. Haven't found anything that might surpass it yet, though I shall venture on in search of one better.

I still consider myself as a novice. I need at least a few more years before I can mention "what's my Holy Grail"...
Possibly Iso E Super
Armani Eau pour Homme (luckily in any formulation, so not that tied up in possible reformulation issues).
Creed Aventus. Parfums De Marly Herod is a close second.
I've found mine and I think my fragrance journey is over.
My grail is Dior Homme combined with its 2 flankers, DHI and Valentino Uomo. I ordered another 100mls of both DH and DHI which hopefully should last me awhile. Still have a few Creeds (Aventus,MI,OS,SMW) in my rotation to mix it up. But nothing grabs me like DH and I seem to keep reaching for it.
I done another sample session today at the boutiques, just to make sure I'm right with my grail choice. Tested Creed White Cologne/Royal Oud, dior sauvage parfum (yuk, couldn't wait to wash this off), YSL L'Homme Parfum Intense, a few ACQUA DI PARMA and Jubilation XXV. After all that nothing comes close to DH.

I understand, jhericurls, as Dior Homme is in grail territory for me, too. I'm always satisfied when I reach for it, and I reach for it pretty often. If it weren't for others that totally "get" me (including Jubilation XXV -- sorry you didn't care for it), I'd be ready to hand DH the crown. Still, there are just too many out there, and too many true loves, to settle on just one.
So far, my only 10's are Pure Malt and Polo Black, but neither of them are "holy grails".
I would say Rochas Femme. I haven't tried the version in the new bottles however.
Montana Parfum de peau (then simply Montana) lost the top spot post-reformulation. Add Chanel 19, Diorella, Diorissimo and Magie Noire to that unfortunate list of "spoiled" fragrances normally competing for the top. I still use them happily especially Diorella though but something is missing.
Bvlgari Green Tea is a very close second and a top favourite in summer.
I must say that these scents all share the "hooked at first sniff" characteristic. Montana...
I'll see what they have made of my beloved Eau de Patou!
As for now, i think i have found it : L'air du desert marocain.
But i'm sensing that the more i try stuff from Andy Tauer, the more holy grails i will have ....
I just placed sample orders for : Incense extreme, Incense rose and Orange star. And if any of those turns out to be constructed the same way as LDDM ( which i know they will), then i think i'm a convert .
Hypocrites will always be a thorn in my back....and my middle finger will always be the best remedy.....
Don't have one. Appreciate the breadth and depth of the world of fragrance.
I can't ever have one parfum / cologne as "the" holy grail...
On the vintage front - it's probably Bogart Furyo. However, there's way too many vintages that I'm still in search of, so this will always be in the top 10 of my top 100 list (which I'll never make).
On the current - Slumberhouse Zahd might be the one, again there's way too many I like to anoint one as the holy grail, but this does seem a hair's length ahead of other Slumberhouse's, Amouage's, vtg Bel Ami, NK Incense, vtg Chanel PM & PM Concentree, Antaeus, Or Black, many Guerlain's etc.
So far Iris Ganache hits all the right notes for me .
Creed Jardin d'Amalfi, Royal Oud, Aventus, and Royal Water
several including Onda, Jicky, Knize Ten, Or Black and Vol De Nuit. I think Bois D'Ascese is gaining a holy grail status day after day...

MFK Absolue Pour le Soir ... there I said it.
Chanel Bois des Iles, which I found very early in my perfume explorations. It still is the one, although I will never wear it exclusively.
Amouage Dia Man, the girlfriend has Dia Women. They make a great pair.
I think since Bois du Portugal is one that I always come back to, I'd have to say it's my Holy Grail.
Creed Green Irish Tweed
Smells magical, and fits me to a T.
Creed Green Irish Tweed
Creed Silver Mountain Water
Creed Royal Oud
Tom Ford Tuscan Leather
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
Tom Ford Italian Cypress
Bleu de Chanel
Serge Lutens Chergui
Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense
Vintage Hermes Bel Ami
Creed Royal English Leather
Dunhill Blend 30 (still contemplating)
Creed Cuir De Russie (still contemplating)
Amouage Tribute (still contemplating)
I haven't found mine yet, but I'm always looking. If I could find something with a fresh/fruity top like Aventus (though it doesn't have to be that same pineapple) plus a rich base like Royal Oud... I'd be in heaven.
"Follow your nose. It always knows." -- Toucan Sam
Dior Homme Intense. I've tried others, many many others, but nothing has come even remotely close to Dior Homme Intense.
for me it would have to be mancera cedrat boise . and my second would be chopard oud malaki.
Think I just found mine by accidentally layering Ambre Sultan with Memoir Man. Suddenly there's amber and incense everywhere.
I think the idea of multiple holy grails is probably contradictory. The mythical quest. To paraphrase somebody somewhere - its not actually finding what you are looking for, but the quest that matters. My holy grail would have to be like prism reflected light , constantly changing, never exactly the same.
You've found several Holy Grails ?? I am sooo jealous....I want one....and I'm afraid I don't have enough life left to the searching you must have done......You are sooo lucky............
At my age, I'm beginning to wonder ...in the end....if I do find my "Holy Grail"...will I be at the end of my road or might that lead me to a new crossroads where I will then be directed somewhere else not so much to my Holy Grail but to another treasure ....As I travel around the delicately-worded basenotes site I am in awe of all the brilliant women here....(this is a true revelation to me) and as it has for many years, I can't help but wonder why women cannot climb to the top of every ladder and make things right as they should perhaps as only a women can do !!!
My holy grails are Mitsouko, L'Heure Bleue and Une Fleur de Cassie. At least these are perfect fragrances to me.

I love Lumière Noire Pour Homme and Absolue Pour le Soir, but have a feeling that Orange Sanguine is going to become my most-worn fragrance.
It's comforting, uplifting, doesn't shout and prance about, and works in all seasons.

FM Bois d'Orage with Derby nipping at its heels

Chanel, Coromandel, &
These 2 have everything i am looking for in a fragrance, sweet, sexy, draws compliments and has great silage and longevity. I like Bois des Iles a lot too bc that has some Egoiste DNA in it, they smell similar but are both very different, if that makes any sense, lol. Sometimes i layer Egoiste with Bois des Iles and it is amazing, creates a new and sexy scent that just smells perfect to my nose.
I had the "holy grail" feel the first time I tried Mitsouko, that is perhaps the best candidate so far.
My current top five:
Yohji Yamamoto - Yohji Homme (vtg)
Boucheron - Jaipur Homme
Serge Lutens - Fumerie Turque
Hermès - Equipage (vtg)
YSL - M7 (vtg)

Guerlain Derby is my favorite. As a matter of fact I like it so much that I'm afraid to wear it.
Since the Holy Grail is usually thought of as something unattainable and also since Amouage has pulled all their attars, my Holy Grail is now Tribute Attar. Glad I have a small bottle.
1. Amouage Epic man
2. Dior Leather Oud
3. Perris Monte Carlo Oud Imperial Black
4. Le Labo Patchouli 24
5. Amouage Opus VII
6. Byredo Bullion
7. Norma Kamali Incense

Cool, thanks pluran.
Oh, yes by all means decant! I like these
and get yourself a package of the plastic bulb eye-dropper applicator things to draw up the juice. (Why can I never remember the name of those?)
I do actually wear Derby from time to time.... it's just that I don't want to use it up, and I love the current formulation (and am nervous about future formulations). Also it's so special for me that I feel it is a shame to wear it on a day like any other.
I find myself wearing Tuscan Leather so often these days, its almost becoming my signature. So maybe that was my holy grail all along?
The journey is the magic. At one time or another different ones have been king of the mountain. Tuscan Leather, Memoir Man and Bel Ami hold court right now. Cartier Santos Sport is revered and respected as the elder statesman. One who died in battle was the original Cartier Santos, the new one is nice but the original had magic.

The closest i gave come to a holy grail is GIT!!
I am constantly on the search for HGs.....I am always convinced that my next HG is to be found right around the corner, in the decant package I have ordered based on enthusiastic Basenotes reviews.....Therefore I will never be satisfied and my wallet will always be empty because one of you bastards are always smelling sublime that I haven't smelled yet. And so the vicious cycle begins again.
However, let's say that at this stage of my exploration of perfumes, having tested hundreds of the buggers, these are the ones that provide that perfect but rare heart-head-loins connection, you know, the perfume does all three things at once - it makes you admire it from a purely intellectual standpoint (the mind), it inspires irrational but sincere feelings of love, joy, well-being and happiness (the heart), and it provides a one-two punch to your sensual pleasure center (the loins), the last one being where you want to lick and eat your wrist you smell so darned good. Some perfumes do one or two of these things (if you are lucky), but the ones listed below are the ones that do all three for me:
Une Fleur de Cassie
Bois des Iles
Cuir de Russie
Cuir Pleine Fleur
The list is subject to change, although this is an accurate read of where I am now.
It used to be CDG 2 Man, but I think my bottle went bad (didn't realize the sun was hitting it at a certain time of day). Right now I'd say both Jubilation XXV and Invasion Barbare
Esencia Loewe comes closest to HG territory for me.
Guerlain Mitsouko and Cartier Les Heures Fougueuse are 2 other worthy contenders.
Thanks for starting this thread. Some seem not to understand that the answers provided help others sort through the thousands of fragrances and increases their chances of finding something they truly treasure.
