    Default The ultimate fougere

In your personal opinion what would be the best fougere in the market. Basically I am looking form a barbershop fougere with class and style. If I can find a hybrid between Paco Rabanne + Rive Gauche + Caron Pour Homme + Chanel PM with the quality attributes of ...top niche.
    Too much to ask for?
    Thank you guys.

p.s. By the way I bought 1725 (HdP) and does nothing to me, I can barely smell it. Strange.

I'd go for Derby but in a lower price range, I'd say

    Havana
    Opus
    Azzaro PH

This one gets my vote, a really wonderful Fougere with a modern twist.

Being a classics fan, I'd still vote for Jicky. For the aromatic side, I just bought and am wearing right now ELdO Eloge d'un traitre, and I quite like it.

While i love the classic usual suspects, my favourite has to be Parfums de Marly's Lippizan.

The modern incarnation? If so, the EdP or the Parfum, (which is prohibitively expensive IMO).

I would think the vintage is the gold standard but the reworking is nothing like it according to most people.

Perhaps Monsieur Rochas Eau de Cologne .

I recently got to try the Osmothèque's holding of Fougère Royale (1884). It is indeed a tad different from what we have today

You might want to check out vintage Worth pH haute concentrate while it's easy / economical to get on ebay.

It is hard say since fougeres are classed any where from classic to aromatic to green. The best green fougere is probably the defunct Crown Fougere. Best aromatic of all time was Dukes of Pall Mall Belgravia, which was reincarnated, to its detriment, in Sartorial. I will hesitantly call Mouchoir de Monsieur the best available today though it is more Belle Epoch aristocrat than macho 70s night club. The original Fougere Royale at the Osmotheque is quite interesting and really more like a lavender fragrance.

It's not easy to find one these days as the balance has been destroyed by IFRA restrictions.

English Fern used to be pretty good but it's a facsimile of the idea of a fougere now - the cheerful top half or so.

Without getting into aromatic fougeres the ones I enjoy that are more or less in the ballpark are:

    Or Black
    Yohji Homme
    Invasion Barbare
    Jicky
    Mouchoir de Monsieur
    Nicolai Pour Homme
    1725
    Fou d'Absinthe
    Oxford & Cambridge Lavender
Forreau Noir is also interesting - lavender, lots of tonka but no oakmoss.
Brin de Reglisse sort of slips in there, as well.

P.S Adding Patrick of Ireland another one worth checking out.

Among other things, "the understated deft interplay of spice and herbal elements, the smouldering slow release of spices cooled and restrained by the modulation of the fougere elements" will not be found in niche. Real fougeres are a dead genre. Rive Gauche pour Homme (vintage) was the last real fougere ever made.

thank you all for your great opinions, 90% of the fragrances you are recommending I already had or still have. I will check the 10% that I dont have looking for thar elusive holy grail that never seems to show up.:-)
Fougere Royale is priority and Invasion Barbare. HdP 1725 was a major fiasco, I have a 120 ml brand new bottle, bought it blind because I was entirely sure I would adore it, I was wrong. Very weak, soft spoken, almost timid. I don't really get it. it smell just ok far from the monumental almost epic fragrance that I was hoping for. I will give it another week trial but, I am very disappoint. 1740 blew me away and I was digging the long awaited 1725.....

Definitely Invasion Barbare. Just tried this the other day for the first time and I see what all the accolades are about. Very, very smooth and well blended. Dry down is amazing. It has moved to the top of my list to buy a FB of.

I found something I like from Penhaligon's worthy of purchase aside from English Fern and Endymion

Sartorial is a contemporary interpretation of a classic Fougere; the traditional notes of oakmoss, tonka bean and lavender have been exquisitely stitched together with woods, ozonic and metallic effects, leather, violet leaf, honey and spices to create the perfect illusion of a tailor's workroom. The modern thread running through Sartorial is beeswax; echoing the blocks of wax each thread is run across before stitching.

HEAD NOTES: Aldehydes, Ozonic Effect, Metallic Effect, Violet Leaf, Neroli, Cardamom, Black Pepper, Fresh Ginger

    HEART NOTES
Beeswax, Cyclamen, Linden Blossom, Lavender, Leather

    BASE NOTES
Gurgum Wood, Patchouli, Myrrh, Cedarwood, Tonka Bean, Oakmoss, White Musk, Honey Effect, Old Wood Effect, Vanilla, Amber
