Default Scents any fragrance collector MUST have

Hello, I am new to the forum (longer lurker) who has caught the obsession of fragrance over the past 6 months. I have probably 25-40 bottles and am looking to add more. To get a feel of my collection, here are some of what I have.
    Versace pH
    Dior Homme
D&G The One (if this had an intense I would never need another fragrance)
A few mish-mosh Ed Hardy's (Christmas gifts etc.)
    AdG (same as above)
    Thallium
    Joop! Homme
    UR Usher
    Elizabeth. Taylor Passion Men
    Fierce
    MJ Legend
    Jovan Musk
    Chrome Legend
(Many more citrus/aquatic that I haven't had the opportunity to really wear due to weather)

The post is as the title says!
    Thank you in advance!!!

I will start it with a few staples:

    GIT
    Rive Gauche
    Currently wearing: L'Occitan by L'Occitane

Hey Conrad01, welcome to basenotes. One staple for most here is Terre d'Hermes. It's a nice citrus non-aquatic that can be worn all year. Fresh, yet very earthy qualities make this fragrance appealing to both the general public as well as fragrance collectors and connoisseurs.

    GIT
    Fahrenheit

These are a couple that many should have. Now, according to my opinion, I could list a lot more.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?

Thank you, Hermes was nice enough to send a freebie of TdH my way although I haven't received yet. I don't really have much interest in the Creeds (blasphemy, I know) but my skin kills frags and the consensus is usually creeds are light and longevity lacking :/. I HAVE been wanting a sample of some Rive Gauche like crazy though! Haha

I am curious about L'DI but I have also heard it smells mulchy (rotting vegetationish), but I will have to try

    Chanel's Egoiste. Not Platinum!

Really, I always heard that platinum is better; what do you like about the original?

    Green Irish Tweed
    Fahrenheit
Dior Homme / Homme Intense (but for gods sake sample it first - it might not be for you)
At least one Chanel - Egoist is a pretty damn good choice.

Lots more, really. It's always going to come down to pure subjectivity - what you like and what you want to spend money on and feel comfortable wearing. Sample like a madman!

That depends on what the collector collects. There is no "MUST."

Egoiste and Platinum Egoiste are two entirely different fragrances. Neither is "better" though which you prefer is entirely up to you. Different things smell good to different people.

Haha in all my bottle buying, I have bought 0 samples. Strangely, I have not found one I do not like yet, so possibly lucky, possibly inoffensive nose. (Although I despise most female scents :/ So strangely cloying

It's deeper. It's much more complex. And it's higher quality.

If you do a search, you will find many threads comparing the two.
    Here are a few.

I would also add another vote for Chanel's Egoiste, GIT, and Terre d'Hermes.

Bel Ami is a must if you enjoy leather scents.

This. I have a lot of "MUSTS" for myself. But I wouldn't say they are a "must" for anyone else.

    Eau Savauge (EDT) - Dior
    CK One - Calvin Klein
    English Fern - Penhaligon's
    Grey Flannel - Geoffrey Beene
    Azzaro Pour Homme - Azzaro
Green Irish Tweed - Creed OR Cool Water - Davidoff (yes I said that)
    Chergui - Serge Lutens
    London - Burberry
    Havana - Aramis
    Jean-Marie Farina - Roger & Gallet

With Just those 10 you could be set - I think they are 10 essentials for any men's collection - yes I like classics (and near classics) and they are a good place to start.

    I think a must-have high-end designer fragrance is Chanel's Sycomore.
