Default Fragrances that smell identical to others.

I received two 3ml decants from decant shop today and they were gucci pour homme 1 and midnight in paris. First thought that came to mind with both was juicy couture dirty english and bulgari black. Bulgari black with a ton of baby powder that is for midnight in paris. Not crazy about dirty english and pour homme 1. Too mature and earthy for me but it doesnt smell bad just not for me. I was planning on buying a bottle of bulgari black but that stuff has terrible performance yet i still love it. What frags do you guys find identical to others? Some mentions are rochas man smelling like its knock off bod man body heat (owned). Cuba gold selling like le male. Theres many more but i will leave it at that for now.

    Franck Olivier Sunrise=A&F Fierce
    Mont Blanc Individuel=Creeds Original Santal

Many other frags smell very similar, but these two comparisons are the closest to "identical" that I've smelled.(on top of the LeMale/Cuba gold you mentioned)

    The word identical kills it.

Gph I and Dirty English are in no way identical. If you only have one or the other, sure, you'll find a resemblance, but that's mostly due to memory. Smell them both and you'll realize how different they are. They're very different.

Bvlgari Black and Midnight in Paris are very different too. Midnight In Paris is more like a combination of Bvlgari Black and Armani Code.

These are all good scents, but they're not identical at all.

To me, MIP doesn't smell much like Bvlgari Black. Black, I feel is more masculine (although labeled unisex), and leans more toward an oriental fragrance, being so vanilla heavy. MIP is so much more floral, the tea note is much much more prominent, and I get very little vanilla, if vanilla at all, more like tonka. The only similarity is the leather note, MIP leather is very smooth , while Black's is rough, and dirty. I would say that the closest fragrance to Black is MIP, and vice versa, but it's like saying Cool Water is identical to GIT, and they just aren't.

As for the topic itself. To be honest.. I have smelled A LOT of stuff, probably thousands of fragrances, and to be honest, I don't know anything that smells identical to something else. Even all the common copied citrus scents, they all differ from the next in some slight way. Then too, my nose is very refined, and I tend to pick up on the slightest things, often times I am looking for them. I have over 150 fragrances, all of which are different from the next.
    My 3 Signature Scents:

    Rive Gauche Light (2004)
    Fahrenheit (1988)
    Paul Smith Man (2009)

Maybe the same vein, thats about it.

    Like both, prefer Kiton Men.
I find GIT versatile and safe for many occassion, Kiton Men is much richer, sweeter IMO.

haha everyone is murdering me for the term "IDENTICAL", honestly i meant similar. I guess ill word it differently next time! Ofcourse nothing smells exactly the same but you guys get what i am trying to imply. MIP's dry down seem pretty feminine to me but good. Bulgari black is something that was very odd to me at first but grew on me, now i love it.

I have both juices and they are night and day to me. No way identical. Kiton has a very annoying, sharp note in there that prevented me from purchasing a bottle. GIT is greener and smoother all the way through.

Its amazing how differently we must all smell each fragrance. Of the fragrances I know from the previous posts, I don't see any that are close comparisons. Too me, that is. I think perhaps we sometimes hone in on a particular note or accord and it so colors our perception of the fragrance that when we encounter it again our mind defaults back to the prior similar fragrance even when the similarities may be small.

    For what its worth:

    Montale Red Vetiver=Terre D"hermes
    Davidoff Zino=Bois 1920 Extreme
Creed GIT and Garrigue seem to dovetail in my olfactory memory, as well...

I also think many of the ones mentioned above are not that similar. However, ones I think are very similar, other people may think don't smell very similar.

Here are some I think smell similar (not identical, but very similar):

Hermes Vetiver Tonka -- Ramon Monegal Umbra
Bulgari Man --- Chopard Noble Vetiver
Parfums de Marly Shagya --- by Kilian Cruel Intentions

Of course there are the usuals (GIT/Cool Water/Chez Bond, MBI/OS, New Haarlem/Rochas Man, Red Vetyver/TDH), don't forget Mont Blanc Legend/A&F Fierce and Bois du Portugal/New York by Parfums de Nicolai. On the feminine side, Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely smells almost exactly like Narciso Rodriguez EDT.

I don't know why I find Cuba products so fascinating. I guess it is because so many people swear by them with few dissenters. All side-by-side comparisons:

Le Male + Cuba Gold: Cuba Gold is slightly more powdery and less sharp due to more lavender and less bergamot.
A*men + Cuba Prestige: Some slight differences that come down to Prestige being more synthetic, but almost spot on.
Swiss Army Classic + Cuba Prestige Black: Cuba prestige black is indeed highly similar to Swiss Army in the opening (as rumored here elsewhere), but in the dry down/base is a lot more lavender/violet/powdery -- reminiscent of some Kiton Black notes.

I love these threads. I just sit back and read the comparisons and think...No, No, No, Not even close, No...

GIT and Kiton is a new one though.

I think a lot of folks forget that word when answering these threads. It would get kind of boring if we all agreed on the same statements folks. Remember, these are opinions.

Maybe these scents are not 100% identical. Maybe they are strikingly similar.
In any case, this thread is good for someone who does not want to make a purchase IF they already have a similar scent?

I just learned that Plum Japonais, Phaedon Tabac Rouge, & Charles Street do not need to be on my "buy soon" or "try soon" list.

    Thanks.

I'm a tuscan leather wearer (2-3 times a week) and thought there'd be some difference between them that a godolphin would swap in for an occasional changeup. Forget that idea- they are nearly identical.

I love these threads also. They give me great alternatives to some really good fragrances out there. A lot of times I actually prefer the version that is less expensive, win! Plus, it's great to see the diversity and opinions of everyone here. A few I've noticed that are very similar:

    Cuba gold - LeMale
    Cuba Prestige - A men
    Cuba royal - 1 million
Cuba wild heart - Love and Luck
    Samba Skin - Pure Havane
    Afnan silver supremacy - Aventus

Now, in our little ecosystem here on BN many will argue/discuss the minute differences in these "identical" frags. And rightfully so. I get it. My nose has changed tremendously since joining BN and entering the hobby.

But to 98% of the rest of the world, these comparisons will smell the same
