Default Animalics, super musc etc..where to go from here?

Musc Ravaguer - great stuff, dives off into vanilla land a bit soon IMO but still fabulous.
Dior Leather Oud- brilliant in controlled doses
Muscs Koublai Khan- amazing, beastily beautiful , I thought it couldn't possibly get any better.
Masque Milano Montecristo - be still my beating heart. More of an experience than a scent. What could possibly top this?

MFK Absolue Pour le Soir - I'm speechless. This didn't ease it's way into my top 5 ....it pushed other frags off the table, to the floor. I've been wearing the Cologne Pour le Soir most of the time , then a shot of of APLS during the evening. Yes I know, I'm late to the party, it's been around a while. Worth every red cent . Hence the backup bottle.

If you think my ranking is wrong, or MKK sucks, that's fine, but not the point of the post. If you also enjoy the skank, what's next ?

should dig out ungaro ii - civet and vanilla... the only scent i have felt really animalic... real great fecal civet
otherwise for what it is called animalic around - mazzolari lui and l'ombre fauve
as far as mkk, i guess the vintage juice should have been what is presented in most reviews.... what i have is musky, yes, but dirty... not really, for me at least
there is also gigli uomo - the green juice. i believe few know the scent, it is quite animalic too (civet again, but not as 'organic' as in ungaro ii)
as far as kouros - with the mothballs and urinal cakes and the other sickening ysl stuff, i would not call it animalic.
ouuh.... almost forgot - gold man by amouage... i like it but can't get passed the feeling of just entering overseas aircraft restroom on one of the major europian carriers... towards the end of the flight. iif it were not for that resemblence in my mind...

Love the style too! I haven't smelled Masque, so I clearly need to do soon. And I agree that MR settles too early into a smooth spicy.
Have you tried Le Labo Oud 27? Downright pornographic musk top. Or Etat Libre d'Orange Rien? Intensely bitter and animalic leather.

Or you could move into vintage. Just a few seconds ago I replied to a post on animalics for women. A couple of names: My Sin (soapy and lack thereof), Schiaparelli Shocking (honeyed animalics). And then civet concentrate Joy.

something 'off-thread' since it is not animalic, but surely dirty: jardin du nilles by mpg... this smells like overworked out sweaty ultramasculine hairy body (human, not animal ) just coming out of insufficient hot shower... repelling but addictive

Try Yatagan - ultra masculine, lots of castoreum, dry leather and musk. Not expensive but trully delivers.

Plenty of vintage "women's" scents, such as Diva by Ungaro, which today could be marketed as unisex niche, though it wouldn't be as good. What about vintage "men's" scents with strong castoreum? If so, original Davidoff is worth sampling or vintage One Man Show !

    +1 Oud 27
L'artisan Al Oudh - smells like an armpit
    Xerjoff Zafar - blue cheese

Maybe you could try some pure Oud oils. I've heard they can stink pretty good.

Great line-up there! Montecristo and AplS are two of my personal favorites, and it looks like you've got the stank monsters nailed. If you want a way stinky leather, check out Grand Cuir—which, I swear, is swimming in civet. Also, what about Fate Man? That's a dry cumin scent, not entirely dissimilar to Montecristo, but perhaps a tad redundant with the Masque in your collection (although everything made redundant by that one). It's also tame by the most people's standards. My last musky/stank option would be Lutens' El Attarine, which is a very sweaty but oddly addictive floral.

What about venturing into that aren't necessarily musky, but challenge in other ways? Norne is a great, semi-fungal scent. It's a tad urinous and genuinely smells like you've crawled inside a moss covered, hollowed out log in a damp forest. It's jaw-dropping. You also might want to check out Realoud from Phoenicia — an actual oud as opposed to what shows up in most western perfumery. It's got a cheesey opening, but then settles into a rich grassy type scent. What about avant-garde notes? CdG have some great scents that feature bizzare accords of industrial products, nail polish, glue, light bulbs etc. They're actually all considerably more wearable than they sound, but avant-garde can just as fun as some good stank. Then there's also the infamous Secretions Magnifique -- and scent whose hype is far worse than its bite. It's essentially a powerful milky floral with some metallic notes. It has little to do with body fluids, despite what the packaging says and is absolutely wearable despite what everyone else says!

There's a recent review of Lisa Kirk Revolution on Katie Puckrik's blog. It sounds like it could be interesting to people who like skanky perfumes. Has anyone tried it?

Otherwise, I'll agree with people recommending some of the older dirty florals. Bal a Versailles and Paco Rabanne La Nuit are good ones to try. Also, vintage Tabu is very animalic. All three can be found pretty cheaply, I think.

Musc Tonkin, Mouchoir de Monsieur and Hard Leather are three that should definitely be experienced by the OP.

Oud Cuir d'Arabie has already been mentioned? It has a superb opening, makes you feel stuck inside a constipated hyena's bowel.

You are off the deep end now.....only pure oud oils will suffice now and very likely only those of the Indian or Laotian variety..........

I was going to suggest visiting a thread I recently started. Evidently you and I are on the same train at present. Caicos is brilliant at pointing out the animatics, btw. I see that you have recently discovered this thread though. http://www.basenotes.net/threads/374...nimalic-Scents

Default Re: Animalics, super musc etc..where to go from here?

Wow, given how many of the OP's list I myself enjoy and own, I guess I have to come out as a musk-head myself. Which is odd, since I never thought I would be. Maybe it's that many of these, in actual wear, aren't as crazy as all that, but turn out on my skin as warm and sexy rather than stanky and dirty.

Anyway, came here to +1 Le Labo Oud 27 (which pivots on the funkiness of Atlas cedar oil as much as anything; I don't find it "pornographic" at all, but evocative of the barrel room at a winery or distillery) as well as Fate Man, no so much because it's animalic (it's not), but the cumin is compellingly blended, and it's a bit underrated among new-era Amouages. I agree it sits in a space similar to Montechristo, but both are worth some quality time.
