    Hello everybody,

Today it's cooled down to a mere 9° C. Our meteorologists have officially declared the end of this season's winter. Here in the Frankfurt area, we haven't had a single snow day. It's been the most pleasant winter in Germany I have lived to see so far!

    Hi everyone,

ErinK you are sweetheart but I’m the lucky one, she is gorgeous inside and out (I still dread having photos taken with her though).

Caught up with my sister for lunch and perfume shopping which rolled on to dinner as is the way with us.

My haul was Arquiste Fleur de Louis, L’Artisan Skin on Skin, Costume National So Nude and Penhaligon’s Sartorial.

My sister haul Lubin Nuit de Longchamps, Agonist Onyx Pearl and Creed Himalaya.

The Onyx Pearl smelt amazing on her (oriental flowers, arabian oud, white leather, heliotrope, indian amber, patchouli, Australian sandalwood, virginia cedar wood and white musk) and the Skin on Skin worked really well on me (saffron, whisky, iris, lavender, rose, suede, leather, musk).

Une Fleur de Cassie again for most of today switching to Skin on Skin this evening. The title being quite apt a description of this fragrance, the saffron/whiskey/leather combo is quite a sexy one.

Xscent looks like you made a nice haul! I can only imagine you and your sister had a ball sniffing.

Trilby Lark, I don't blame you, Volutes is terrific.

Jon, I would love to sniff that on you; Avignon is one I cannot personally wear (I appreciate it but ach, can't do it) but I would like to smell it on someone who can pull it off.

    Good morning, everyone -

I'm getting ready to go play for the wee ballerinas in Aunt Sylvie's Dior New Look 1947. I expected this to be bolder, a touch leathery or something, but it's actually a lot like Chanel 1932 but sweeter ...the lovechild of '32 and Miss Dior Chérie. And another one it brings to mind is Patou's Sublime - that's gotta be the luscious ylang talking. This is *very* nice, definitely well-made, but it's a rather straightforward and conventional blend of iris, ylang, rose, vanilla and jasmine ...ultra-ladylike, elegant and proper and pretty ...no sharp edges at all, though it does have a bit of vavavoom, too. This is all satin and lace, powder and lipstick, flowers and bonbons. The girlies will love it.

    Y'all have a great day!

Erin, I've been meaning to tell you how much I've been enjoying your charming and tender autochromes, and you've done such a marvelous job of matching them to your perfume! I especially love the one in 1924 France when you were wearing Hiris. I also noticed you gettin' into your mother's Coco again ...I believe it's about time you had your own bottle, young lady.

Thanks again to everyone offering their generous support, hugs (especially the bear hugs!) and good wishes, for me and for my mother and family - you have my deepest appreciation. xo

And let me add my own hugs and support to everyone facing obstacles or sorrow, and my congratulations to all celebrating joyous events. I realize I've missed a lot due to my own stuff, and I'm catching up, so please forgive this sincere though blankety sentiment until I do.

Evangeline, great iconic photo. This outfit is on my list! I tried a Gucci yesterday, everything seems too sweet to me. Why?

Mike, wishing strength today, Your perfume is at least superb.

I am going off to the art district, galleries and stuff. Which is work for me, not fun. A bit of fun of course. Am in full dress as artist, and topping it off with Knowing, Estee Lauder.

Echoing the beautiful Evangeline and gorgeous Mike's (((bear hugs))) for one and all, with a very gentle set for Mocha. I managed not to come down with chicken pox until age 27... And was out of work for a month. Since shingles results from the same virus, I think maybe I can relate... Recommend baking soda baths if your skin is in agony.

Today I am smelling most fine in Sonoma Scent Studio Velvet Rose layered with fellow SSS Incense Pure. Elegant and just a bit wicked.

Velvet Rose notes: Rose, bergamot, violet leaf, carnation, musk, patchouli.

Incense Pure notes: Sandalwood, cedar, frankincense, myrrh, labdanum, orris, moss, patchouli, elemi, vanilla.

Oh wow, Frou, look how preposterously sumptuous it all is!! You're right, I can almost smell it ...I can almost smell *her*! Gorgeous.

You smell sublime, ComDiva ...at least I can attest to the rosy part of it, but I can only imagine Laurie's incense would be an extremely nice compliment to it. I really love Velvet Rose, and I've already made up my mind that once I'm out of Une Rose, Velvet Rose will be replacing it.

Frou, that is beyond evocative. I had not heard this story before; thank you for sharing! I love this kind of thing. And I can only imagine you yourself look utterly enchanting in artist garb.

    Evangeline
, I am glad you have enjoyed the autochromes. I love historic photos, and I love the photo you posted today; she is so chic and stylish in that outfit, but what makes the photo is her expression with those arched eyebrows, that stance! And the way you described your impressions of New Look 1947 was so lovely; I can't wait to try it some day. As for vintage Dior, I have a vintage Diorissimo on its way and I can't wait to try it!

Earlier, I meant to comment on my SOTE from last night: By Kilian Good Girl Gone Bad. When I posted my initial reaction on yesterday's thread I was in the throes of the top notes which almost made my eyes water with their juicy sweetness. I nearly scrubbed. However, this scent is a real shape shifter. An hour in it was still sweet, but much drier, and by the time I went to bed, the dry down was absolutely lovely and strangely smelled a lot like Iris Poudre. Go figure.

Yucky, slushy stuff is falling from the sky. There’s concern for flooding if the snow/rain runs off at a time when the ground is thoroughly frozen. We're high and dry and tucked inside. Yesterday Mr. Q had to cut a dead, standing tree to compensate for our diminished woodpile. A winter to remember.

Oh, those limestone structures Jon finds photos of. Quarry porn. Then there’s Frou Frou’s French-style interior photo. Wham! Wow!

Mike ~ Good tip about making sure The Scent Bar has Cadjmere in stock. It's the souvenir that counts. Last trip to the lawyers.

Mocha ~ I hope that medication reduces the impact of your shingles. My dearest girlfriend recently suffered a case of shingles for the first time, and it was quiet devastating as it occurred across her face and scalp. She tells me that once you've been without incident for at least 12 months, then you can get the vaccine. I also learned that a person can catch chickenpox from a person experiencing a shingles outbreak. Nothing to take lightly. Best wishes.

30Roses ~ Good luck with those cute new clogs. My shoe choices have made all the difference in never having plantar fasciitis again.

Yes, Curly11, that's just plain old packaging ribbon. Here's the story about how it was made. Thanks, Xscent, I love my little obsessively/compulsively organized tray.

Having gone through all my samples yesterday, there isn't anything else I pre-plan buying at TSB except Cadjmere. I still lament the discontinuation of sweet-leather VIP Room, which is my SoTD. TSB still carries the scent in candle form, but I don't think that's going to grab me. TF Tuscan Leather has stepped in to fill the vacuum left by VIP Room for me. Trilby Lark, VIP Room might have been a goodie for you, too. Sorry to tantalize you over a discontinued.

It's likely that, upon my return from vacay, I'll order decants of Bel Respiro and Bois de Violette and/or vintage Violette Precieuse, along with anything else I meet at TSB that's not FBW, and Royal Oud for Mr. Q.

VIP Room: tiare flower, bergamot, tangerine, pineapple, sandalwood, vetiver, birch, iris root, leather, styrax, amber, vanilla, musk

    Hi all,

Mocha; l know that shingles can make you feel rotten. l do hope you can get plenty of rest & allow your body to recover quickly.

Jon; l've actually been to the Palais du Papes in Avignon; a long time ago. l remember using a student card to get in for free! That was on my very first trip abroad. Thanks for the memories...

Evangeline; nice to hear you are enjoying your dear auntie's perfumes. What a wonderful way to keep her memory alive.

    (((mike))) you smell fabulous.

FrouFrou; those pictures speak a thousand words. One can almost feel the lady's personality from seeing all her books, papers & vanity items still sitting there untouched. Does anyone have a link to this story? l'd love to read about it.

Today went from grey skies & rain to glorious sunshine & mild temps in just a few hours. l wore Cinema for work.

Thank you all for the good wishes. The shingles has felt rotten, but I am relieved that when I finally went to the doctor, he instantly figured out what it was. And I am taking things easy now, as much as possible. Friends and family have been so lovely that I don't think I'd need to cook for weeks if I wanted that. I feel like I've turned the corner, and the sun is out.

I tried the Magnolia Grandiflora - Michel last night, and found it a divine white flower fragrance. Today, like Xscent, I'm in Frederic Malle Une Fleur de Cassie, which is wonderfully complex and quieter on me. Flowers feel comforting and uplifting right now, and I'm loving that.

FrouFrou, those photos are fantastic; it's an entree into a vanished world.

Frou just wow! What a terrific story. I wonder how often something like this happens without report.

Xscent, such a lovely shopping day! You are two lucky girls. Enjoy your goodies. I tried Skin on Skin and it was nothing but plastic on me. Good to know it works for some folks.

George had to remain in hospital last night as his kidney levels are not yet adequate to allow for anesthesia. However, improvements are being made so were hoping he can have his procedure today and be home this evening.

I'm still enjoying last nights spray of Aqua Allegoria Lys Soleia. I sprayed before hubs arrived home and after a bit he asked, is there a bouquet somewhere? It was my fragrance and he loved it. Mocha, I'm glad you're feeling better. My dad developed shingles when he was taking chemo, and it was just brutal. You have my very best wishes for a thorough, speedy recovery with no further flare-ups. Isn't Une Fleur de Cassie divine? It's one of my favorite late winter/early spring fragrances, and I'm so glad it's bringing you some comfort.

Xscent = fragrance, vacation, and bedding porn. Quarry = old house, DIY, rocks, and landscape porn. Frou Frou = equine, lives frozen in time, and amazing flowing locks porn. ErinK = historical photo and Rocky porn. Evangeline = vintage fashion, vintage fragrance, and ballet porn. Jon = travel and bird porn. Kiliwia and kumquat = flower porn. Why in the world would I ever go anywhere else for porn? You are all amazing. And now I wonder exactly what kinds of banner ads I'll be seeing?

Assuming bear hugs can be squishy in addition to massive, I'm sending them your way, ((((Mike)))), ((((Mocha)))), and ((((Evangeline)))).

Quarry got me all spun up yesterday, evoking the suggestion, if not the promise, of spring with violets (I totally agree with you on violets being the fragrance harbinger of spring -- although the mimosa in UFdC does it for me, too). So of course I'm wearing Bois de Violette today, after spritzing myself with abandon. This violet seems perfect for today, as we're getting about 3" of heavy wet snow dumped on us. Should be gone by tomorrow, though.

Yay, Quarry!! In just a few short weeks, you and I will be full bottle sisters of the wonderful Cadjmere. (Mine is shipping out from Luckyscent today!) It's about darn time, I'd say

I'll be going to San Francisco for work next week, and I'm staying ever so close to Barneys. I'm betting I know what's happening to the rest of my tax refund, right, kumquat?

Actually, it's the other way around. You're going to get shingles (likely) if you've had chicken pox. I've had my shingles shot. You can get it if you're 55 years old. My MIL had them and was miserable! Don't want to get that!

Thanks! FrouFrou! Yes, the Shingles (I gather) is a latent virus. I think it usually only comes back in older people. That's why they only vaccinate you after the age of 55.

I thought the same thing! How could I get shingles since I had had chicken pox? Kumquat is right, though. After chicken pox passes, the virus remains dormant in your body, only to reactivate years late for some reason -- they aren't sure why. Sometimes from stress, but I certainly haven't been stressed recently. The worst part about it isn't the terrible itching, but the pain. You get random jolts of pain, sort of like having a heart attack.

I need to stress that I'm actually feeling better now; the medication has cut the pain and I'm getting used to the side effects of the medication. I can get my work done, and I can take care of the house, the kids, the dogs, the husband, etc. I can't do everything, but I can do enough. I'm grateful.

I had no idea they had a vaccine, and I'm younger than the recommended age for it. But I think if you can get it, you should.

Mocha, that's terrible you're younger than the recommended age. What a drag! I really sympathize with you. I don't want to alarm you, but there can be some depression afterwards. Maybe it's different depending on age. My MIL was in her 70's. She was also suffering from some other things- Alzheimer's was one issue.

Good afternoon, I am in Fracas for a, whew, heavy day at work.

Mike, I am glad that your difficult split will finally be worked out. It is hard to disentangle completely, and sometimes impossible....My ex's family is still my family, they aren't him, you know? We just have to find a way to make it all work. But very good that your legal obligations will be taken care of, that is a relief.

Mocha, hugs and I hope you heal quickly.

Mocha, I feel for you. I had shingles at the age of 16. Itch doesn't begin to describe it. Rest up, insist on good pain control. I hope your recovery is swift.

jujy, my aunt just had hip replacement surgery in January. She stayed for a week at a rehab hospital, and it really helped with her recovery. I hope that option is available to you. It sounds like you are doing all the right things now to support a quick recovery; the early exercise and good diet help a lot more than people realize. Good for you. More (((hugs))) coming your way! And LOL for "truculent Algebra II students"

Teardrop, you smell *wonderful* tonight. (Cue Clapton.)

ErinK, count me in as a big fan of The Band. And CCR. And Tom Petty. Do you know Jackie Greene? He and JJ Grey & MoFro are about as close as I've been able to find to contemporary versions of these greats. I can just see you during your 9-hour road trip, jamming to The Band with Rocky, doused in Coco. Now *that's* sexy.

Thank you for all of the kind words everyone - I am back, everything went fine. Attorney's are expensive (!), but most importantly it's all been done legally, binding, thorough, etc. Seeing my ex always make me a bit 'off' so I am glad I have plans to attend my Book Club tonight with my buddies. I really shouldn't be alone. I won't be.

It's so nice to have a bunch of people (most of whom I've never even met in person - but some whom I have!) who I can 'vent' with. I'm extremely grateful for each & every one of you

(((Mike))) You must feel very relieved to have that over with, legally, that is - obviously it will take longer to emotionally process everything. What a rough day. I can completely understand how seeing your ex makes you feel off. Just the thought of seeing mine gives me the heebie jeebies. Today had to have been a good step towards putting it behind you. It is wonderful that you have a book club tonight so you can go be around supportive people who love you. Good company is so good for the soul.

ExtremeK, your porn post earlier was sooo cute!!! I am not familiar with Jackie Greene, but I will check her/him/them out - thanks for the recommendation! LOL @ your idea of me and Rocky on a road trip jamming out (the funny part is thinking I could ever be sexy on a road trip, hahaha - I wish!). We do love some rock 'n roll...but this time I made him sit through 7+ hours of one of my favorite podcasts...he wasn't amused and slept through it.

ExtremeK porn , happy to be the purveyor of vacation, fragrance and bedding porn. I always feel I've hit the conversation jackpot when I'm online the same time as ErinK and the rest of the northern hemisphere. Mocha you smell excellent I'll be in more UFdC today, thank goodness I bought a back up bottle, the current one is being drained alarmingly quickly! Danie I'm sorry Skin on Skin didn't work for you, I think there a few new and new/old ones I've gotten that might, I'll go through and make some notes.

Another mad day at the office. Une Fleur de Cassie again for me.

Xscent, haha at "hitting the jackpot" with regards to being on the same time as the northern hemisphere. That just blows my mind - there is such a feeling of camaraderie here it is hard to believe we are all so physically so far away.

The more I wear No. 19, the more I can detect the iris. At first it was very hard for me to get any iris at all from 19. I think in the current formulation the iris is maybe more prominent, although it is probably my imagination. Maybe it is the lack of such a sharp mossy note that brings the iris out more.

    Hey y'all -

Still exploring Aunt Sylvie's treasures, and I'm in vintage Tabac Blond this evening, 50s parfum. It's gooooood. ♥

(((mike))) - those are bear hugs, naturally.

You're making me laugh too, ExtremeK ..."ballet porn", lol. Sounds like I need to clear my browser history again.

Erin, I find the current edp has a very prominent *vetiver* note that's not in my 80s edp, or at least it's not very strong. That to me is the most striking change across the board in the current No19 line ...and my favorite use of vetiver I know of, as it's a note I generally sort of avoid ...although I somehow *lurve* it on Tony. Anyway, you sure smell wonderful ...again. You're doing a very good job of that lately.

I'm wearing Love and Tears today. I needed something bright, easy, and cheery because I knew today would be a long day at work. Yesterday was my husband's birthday (yes, the next day after our son's) but I couldn't get anyone to trade call with me. He said not to worry, we are celebrating his birthday this weekend anyway. I ended up not getting home til almost midnight! Four hours of sleep and then back this morning. I'm really getting too old for this job! I was wearing Angel, BTW.

easyfish, that painting is one of my very favorites!

E, glad you are back ... I'm sorry the way you have acquired your new treasures, but boy oh boy, are they ever treasures! (I'm jealous of the vintage Diorling ... I really would love to have a bottle, but too afraid to buy any on ebay.) Enjoy them as your aunt would have wanted ...

mocha, I hope those shingles go away soon!

FrouFrou, what an intriguing story! I would love to have that dressing table or some of the carved chairs in the apartment. She looked very beautiful in that portrait.

Mike, sending you extra hugs ...

    hugs to all!
    I've trademarked the color bleu

Wearing Estee Lauder Private Collection Amber Ylang Ylang this evening. Warm, smooth and wonderful, a very comforting scent.

Yes, Quarry, those VIP Room notes do sound very tantilizing! However, I will have to content myself with Tuscan Leather, which I dearly love. Although I didn't post it, I added a little spritz of TL to my Volutes this morning. I just couldn't help myself. I'm sure you understand!

So nice to have a fellow leather fiend here Given your love of TL have you tried Puredistance M? I also quite enjoyed Mark Birley but the leather is not as deep as in TL and M. Fate woman has also got a lovely spicy leather note (top notes: bergamot, cinnamon, chili and pepper, heart notes: rose, narcissus, jasmine, frankincense and labdanum and base notes: vanilla bean, frankincense, benzoin, castoreum, patchouli, oakmoss and leather).

M is at the top of my "To Test" list thanks to your suggestion. I'll check out Fate as well. Just a question about the Amorage line - I own Gold Woman but the floral is too overwealming. Is Fate similar in terms of being another BIG scent?

To my nose, Fate is a bit of departure from the usual big floral offerings from Amouage. I have to admit I can’t get many Amouages to work on me but with Fate the florals are well controlled and tempered by the spices, castoreum and leather. It does project but to me it’s soft wafting rather than in your face. It’s one I would still apply with a light hand. I find the women’s Fate compositionally more interesting than the men’s and found myself nodding when I read this review of it:

Thanks, Xscent. I will seek out Fate for a test run. I was playing around with Michael Edwards Fragrance Finder and Fate was recommended a couple of times based on other favorite scents I entered. I sure love the packaging and even nominated it for the BN award for 2013.
