Synching in Tabu. When I was young, my cousin wore it and I thought, what a sweaty stinky mess! Which of course is what I now love about it!

Similarly, I should give Aromatics Elixir a sniff. It was my mom's fragrance, loved it on her, smelt like Black Flag on me. I wonder if I will have a similar conversion...

ExtremeK how are your screen banners looking? Make sure you take a screen shot and post if it gets really interesting. Here's more fragrance porn for you from my collection.

Trilby Lark I would be interested in your take on Fate. I also wonder if Cuir Mauresque might be of interest, it’s a very cosy leather the dry down is delicious.

Dominique Ropion has hijacked my nose with Une Fleur de Cassie lately so I’m wresting it back with Cuir Mauresque tonight while I start demolition work on my kitchen. ErinK dog hair covered yoga pants would be fancy next to the ripped paint splattered jeans and old business shirt I have on.There's a chopstick twisted in my hair holding up at the moment for goodness sake. I must look a complete nutter. Blasting Wagner (Die Walküre) loud enough for saminlondon and Trilby Lark to hear.

Good morning, everyone! It's cold and stormy again here. Can't really complain though, I talked to my daughter and they've gotten 10 inches of snow in Duluth with near blizzard conditions. Friday is normally a day off for her, but there were so many nurses calling in that they wouldn't be able to make it in that she has to do a double today.

In sync with Estee Lauder Knowing this morning. I still can't believe I hated this one when I bought it in the 80's and gave it away, I love it now!

    Have a great day!

    Good morning, everyone -

I know it's not what most of the country is getting, and I don't take it for granted either (I've lived in Boston and Milwaukee, so I really do get it!) but it's going to be in the high 50s and sunny here in N'awlins today, so of course I'll be hitting the court this morning in one of my newest "not quite but almost magnolia" magnolia fragrances, Magnolia Grandiflora Sandrine ...the *tennis* "not quite but almost magnolia" magnolia.

    Y'all have a wonderful day!

jujy, you really have to give Aromatics Elixir another try - I think you'll absolutely adore it. But when you do, if given a choice, I'd urge you to go for either the Perfumer's Reserve in that beautiful sculpted brown bottle, or the body cream, which is *absolutely* perfumed enough to count as perfume and it's smoothing to boot. Both of these express everything great about AR sans the sharp blackflaggy patchouli blast present in the perfume spray. But you really just can't go wrong with it no matter what you choose - I think it's a masterpiece.

teardrop and shades - thank you for your comments about Sylvie's perfumes, which really are such a remarkable treasure. But as tempting as it is, I'm not necessarily going to keep them all just to have them; it's been so wonderful to wear them for a while and conjure memories, but they're really not all my style, so I've set some aside for other family members and friends, and Mom, of course. I think she wants to avoid all those bottled memories right now so she gave me first dibs, but some of these should clearly be hers ...she might want that Tabac Blond, actually. The Diorling, however, is one I'll definitely be keeping ...Aunt Syl and I had lots in common, including a shared passion for vintage Dior.

Well, hooray for a change of heart and nose, Kiliwia - you smell drop dead gorgeous!

Hello all you lovely fragrant people! I have missed you all so much! I am buried in work, but actually have a breather because our power is down at our server location and we sent all the staff home. Oh my gosh, it's like the eye of the hurricane here! It's been overwhelming, and when I get overwhelmed, I pull back from pretty much everything to survive. However, I'm going to take today as a blessing to shovel out my office, go through the stacks of paperwork scattered everywhere, and more importantly say hello to you all.

In the midst of all of this I haven't been wearing too much perfume. It's begun to slow a bit in the last week, and only since that have I really even spritzed anything. I ordered some decants tho, so that's exciting. I broke it off with bachelor #2 who became so needy and clingy, and I couldn't handle that in amidst the work storm. I think I'm through the worst of it, and I'm leaving on vacation next week Thursday for a week+ at my parents in Destin. I'm worn to the bone and need the time so badly.

Ok, I feel guilty even taking 5 minutes here, so I guess I REALLY need a vacation. I mean, I can't work on the system and I still feel guilty for posting when I could be sorting paperwork, filing, organizing, etc. Love to you all! I hope to catch up on what's going on in your lives by sorting through past SOTD while on vacation. Have a great weekend everyone!!

Jon, I just scrolled through the thread again and was simply compelled to log back in so I could say, "Sold!" You really have me swooning between your glowing review and this glorious, *radiant* vision of vivacious greens and golds....oh, just look at it! I actually tried Golden Chypre last year, probably based on something you said here, but I was distracted by too many other perfumes at the time and never gave it the attention it surely deserves, but I'll definitely be trying it again.

And how very fortuitous! I'm glad I did log back in so I could say hi to elizrj - hi there, lady! You've been sorely missed around here, so thanks for stopping by for a little visit, but you really *mustn't* stay away so long next time! You seem to have a good excuse though - you have been very busy, as usual. It's good to see you, but if you don't pop back in before you go, have a wonderful, relaxing and recuperative time at the beach. (Destin's known as the "Cajun Riviera" in these parts, lol. Look out for Tulane's Spring Breakers!)

Elizrj!!! We have missed you so much! So glad you have popped in to update us on things. You poor thing - sounds like you have been crazy stressed out lately - I can totally understand your pulling away when getting overwhelmed. I do the same thing. How lovely to have a beach vacation in Destin with your parents. Nothing like some good R&R at the beach to rejuvenate your spirits.

Speaking of the beach, today I'm in my quintessential beach scent: the discontinued Gap Close. Yesterday's Bronze Goddess is plenty beachy, sure, but this one really hits the mark when it comes to salty, sun-soaked skin. Although there's a bit of citrus, it isn't in the least fruity. FrouFrou, I know so many perfumes are too sweet for you (as they are for me). I wonder if you might even like this one even though it's nothing like what you usually prefer. Close notes: sparkling water accord, almond blossom, salty citrus accord, freesia, jasmine, daphne, stephanotis, sandalwood, skin musk, vanilla, and amber.

Evangeline, thanks for your sweet comments yesterday: coming from you, being told one smells great is a real compliment!
And Kiliwia, you DO smell great! And sheesh, Liz Hurley, lordy mama that's a beautiful woman.

I absolutely HATED this when I first smelled it @ Sephora years ago. Now I am on my third bottle of this. I love this stuff. I probably wear it at least once a week. I own the Body Scrub also. I showered with it this morning also. It's hard to describe but it smells like: dirt, whisky, wood and rubber.

Thank you for all for the hugs & comforting words. I really appreciate it. I had a good cry last night, on the couch, when I got home. I guess I needed that. It feels much better today.

I took some NyQuil last night since this cold wasn't allowing me to sleep well & so this morning I'm a bit dopey. I need more coffee. I need to take it easy this weekend. No partying.

I'm wearing clouds of Shalimar this morning, current lotion, Vintage EdC, a dab of vintage parfum and finally, a spritz of current EdT.

A great big, giant hug and hello to Elizrj! How wonderful to see you, even if only briefly. Here's wishing you success in getting through the hardest part with work and seeing some ease in the not too distant future.

Mike, glad you have let out some of the emotion, hoping for healing for you.

My George had to stay another night in hospital as he's still not fit for the procedures he'll be needing. I'm actually anticipating his coming home today for a few days to recover from strength before going back in next week for dental xrays and the whatever surgery is necessary. So, still in a bit of a holding pattern. But I know he's in good hands with the vet.

I'm mourning the loss of a mailed vintage! Shocking de Shiaparelli was on its way to me, but the USPS seems to have misplaced it. I'm still hoping, but its been two weeks and no movement on the tracking.

    Hi everyone.

Jon, I'm a chypre hound, and I don't know if its your glowing endorsement, or that gorgeous photo, but I'll be adding a sample of Golden Chypre to my next Luckyscent order.

I am sort of synching. I don't usually grow to love a fragrance I hated at first. But I'll go with a house. Serge Lutens was a house I didn't like for a long time. I found the fragrances, even the highly touted ones, off-putting: too abstract, too woody, too dramatic, too much. However, I changed from dislike to humble admiration as I learned more about his inspirations and his vision. I now respect him hugely as an artist -- an artist who sometimes works in perfume. And today, I am wearing and loving De Profundis.

((Mike)) Sometimes we just need a cry. It helps. I had some tears last night myself-- my daughter's delightful sense of humor is so like that of my late brother, and last night it just triggered some sadness that he died before she was born, so she never met him. Ah, well.

Today I'm in Vetiver Tonka. It's a drizzly day, but tomorrow should be warmer and sunny. We'll take advantage of the weather to visit another one of the colleges my daughter applied to.

When Wish whispers, “Something is just around the corner,” what comes or not is never what was wished for. Thanks Jon, I am not too familiar with geranium, except that it's green.

    Hey again, y'all -

Taking a break from the memories, I'm in Parure for the remains of the day, 70s parfum. And as frequently happens on Friday afternoons, I'm waiting on Tony to officially begin Happy Hour with my own pre-Happy Hour bourbon-o'clock. Goin' for dinner and jazz (actually, jazz bassist James Singleton at Chickie Wah Wah - are you familiar with him jujy?) a bit later, as also frequently happens ...'cuz there's nothing wrong with a bit of routine as long as it satisfies the soul.

    Y'all have a good one - cheers!

Thanks kalli - I'll take all the hugs I can get.

And thank you too Jon, you know what for, and it *really* helped. xo

Oh, how wonderful you smell, FrouFrou - Vent Vert is *my* favorite Balmain ...yes, it is quite green!

Science is not only compatible with spirituality, it is a profound source of spirituality. When we recognize our place in an immensity of light-years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual. ..Carl Sagan

George wanted me to thank all of you for your kind thoughts and prayers. He is home for now and feeling soooo much better than he was. He just wants to sit with mommy now and purr.

Danie George is adorable, glad to hear he's doing well and you m'dear are smelling mighty fine.

Trilby Lark will do, fragrance wise it looks like we cross over a bit in our tastes.

Opening my new bottle of So Nude for ballet this morning. Realised this another one by Dominique Ropion, he's certainly making my nose happy lately.

(((mike))) so glad your spirits are a bit better today. By all means, though, a good cry will do wonders for you. Glad to see you taking good care of yourself.

danieq, George is SO handsome!! So happy to hear he is home and purring. Give him a scratch for me.

I am doing my own happy dance: My vintage No. 19 EDT arrived tonight and it is GORGEOUS. I don't think the bottle had ever been opened - it had its little paper insert folded all perfect on top just like nobody had ever opened it. Based on the raiders of the lost scent batch code dating clues, it is from March 1986. And, icing on the cake: the seller included what I believe is a vintage carded sample of L'Interdit - how did she know I have been dying to try vintage L'Interdit?

Count me in for some Golden Chypre lemming too. Thanks Jon.

OK, the second funniest thing that happened today: I recently ordered myself a bottle of En Passant on ebay, not realizing that from my previous ebay order, my mom's address defaulted to the shipping address (I had sent her a discontinued Benefit lipstick she loves, and forgot to change back the default shipping address). So today she receives a package in the mail, opens it, and sends me a text about how good the perfume smells. I was like, "What?? It was supposed to be lipstick!" so then I realized I had accidentally sent my mom my En Passant. And she loves it. She was excited that she ID'ed it as lilac and on facetime she kept sniffing her wrist and saying, "I can see how someone could get hooked on this one." I know what she might get for mother's day this year.

TGIF! I'm wearing Bond Coney Island today. Another busy day with several errands to run after work which made me very late getting home. I'm just happy it's the weekend ... I'm taking hubby out of town tomorrow for a birthday getaway!

    hugs to all ...

mike, i also wanted to ask you, since I have yet to try Jicky myself: what did you hate about it when you first tried it? I have a feeling I may have a similar reaction the first time I try it and I would like to brace myself for what to expect. And, of course, how did you eventually come to love it?

Could not resist showing y'all this picture. Gives new meaning to the term "scent hound."
