A lot of the guys here wear it - if you like it, enjoy it
So today I've found out that there's a niche fragrance store here in Portugal. There used to be none, so I went there and saw that they had FM fragrances. I tried most of them and loved portrait of a lady. Weirdly I didn't find musc ravageur that Good tbh..
Anyways, I've bought Poal and When I got home I went to Check the reviews and felt stupid because I saw that it is a women's fragrance.. I know that it I should just wear what I like, but what do you guys think? To be honest I think dior homme is way more feminine than this, but I dunno.. There's just some thing that made me sad When I found out this is supposed to be feminine, pride maybe?
Funny cuz I'm usually a fahrenheit kind of a guy

I personally don't wear this Malle, but there are many men who do and enjoy it greatly and wear it with no reservations, so enjoy it. By the way, Malle doesn't classify any of his scents for one gender or another.
Remember that while it is perfectly acceptable to criticize the content of a post - criticizing the poster is not.
Mean spirited, nasty, snide, sarcastic, hateful, and rude individuals on Basenotes don't warrant or deserve other individuals' acknowledgement or respect.
A man can easily wear it. I originally bought it for my wife, but I've worn hers. It's absolutely unisex. Wear it without reservation!
The only thing that is not unisex with this fragrance is the name.
We've had discussions about this before. Malle classifies it as unisex, but it's clearly in the style of modern masculines. Its base is choke full of potent woody ambers, typical of modern masculine perfumery (but here done much better).
Go light on the spray, though, this is nuclear-power.
You can definitely make this your fragrance if you so wish - why not? Follow cacio's advice about using a feather light finger on the trigger. My own advice would be to alternate frequently with other scents, and also to perhaps do your trial runs during cooler weather.
Quite unisex for sure.
I own it and I find it to be more masculine than feminine IMO. I cant see my wife wearing this at all. I have actually received quite a few compliments at work while wearing it and people are always surprised when I tell them that it is a women's fragrance!
I feel POAL is more masculine than feminine. Wear it if you enjoy it! And, yes, like you, I also feel that Dior Homme smells more feminine I own and love Dior Homme, and don't worry that it is a masculine.

As others have noted, all of Frederic Malle's fragrances are intended to be unisex (though obviously some will be more popular with one gender or the other). The name "Portrait of a Lady" is referring to the Henry James novel, not to the fragrance being intended for ladies specifically. Just as the novel is suitable to all genders, so is this admirable composition.
Thanks everyone! I certainly feel a lot better now ahah. My gf said it didn't smell feminine so That's a plus. By the way, i was messing around with my fragrances and tried layering Poal with TF oud wood and the result was amazing. Try it out sometime. Thanks once again!
Ps: owner gave me loads of samples, will probably get french lover in the future.
Just wear the damn thing as if it was the last day of your life.
It's all about how confident you are in your pants...i remember when I first cracked a sniff at DH and though it to be feminine and revisited on later day and ever since I love it... I wouldn't say that labeling scents is wasteful as there are scents that IMO are totally for women : cause honestly I don't hear many fellas using Miss Dior or Elizabeth Taylor diamonds categorized for women , so thankfully there are categories be at they don't always get it right but without it, they would be a lot of chaos and returns....
"Thank GOD for the nose, for without it we would not be enjoying these beautiful created Scents" also Remember "Balance is everything and the key to appreciating "
Perfume doesn't have genitalia. I know that may sound like it's just a flippant reply, but it's the truth. The box or bottle may say which gender a fragrance is marketed for or perhaps was even designed for, but none of that matters. If you'd like to wear it, you should. Women wear men's scents all the time. Are you ready for a crazy sounding statistic? 50% of men's scent purchases are made by women. Granted, part of that 50% includes women buying men's scents as gifts for the men in their lives, but if you read reviews on store websites, you'll find so many women saying they bought the scent for themselves, or they share it with their boyfriend/husband/etc. At my local Sephora, I can think of a men's scent that is only in the women's section. Then again, at Nordstrom, I can think of a woman's scent that crossed over into the men's section. Here's a list of women's scents Katie Puckrik recommends for men to wear.
If you smell something and think "I could wear that," you should.
Style is subjective. Wear what you like. I'm not a skinny jeans guy, but look how popular they've become among men. 10 to 15 years ago, that wasn't the case. But then mainstream clothing manufacturers started noticing that tall women's jeans sizes were selling out disproportionally, and it became clear that guys were buying them. A style article like this wouldn't even be worth printing today since skinny jeans on men are everywhere.
Style is subjective. Wear what you like, and what you think suits you.

Boy, how do I get away with wearing Une Rose then?!
It's not unisex IMO but that's doesn't mean that certain men can't wear it either..
Anyone can wear it, and this 80s powerhouse lover does frequently. When I purchased a bottle at Barney's Las Vegas it was being sold at the Men's counter upstairs, but honestly it would have made no difference which counter it was displayed at. A masterpiece like PoaL smells good on just about anyone, regardless of gender. Congrats on your great purchase! Now go out and wear it with abandon.
