    Default Reccommendations for a Vanilla-lover please? :)

Hi everyone! I've recently become obsessed with scents (diffusers all over my house, starting to collect perfume and it's become a part of branding myself) and I'm in the progress of finding my own personal scent. I would really appreciate any help and recommendation you could give me, thanks so much!

I'm a huge vanilla fan and up until recently have been using The Body Shop's Vanilla eau de toilette as my go-to scent but have decided to see if there was something else out there for me. I've tried a few things and here's what I've found out; I don't like how a lot of perfume I've tried is too perfumey (hopefully that makes sense) as I can find it overwhelming, I don't like perfumes with an absurd amount of notes crammed into them as I can also find it overwhelming, I do not like strong fruity notes especially citrusy ones, I like gourmand scents but not absurdly sweet/fake smelling ones, I like musk (particularly musk and vanilla combinations), I like woody and slightly spicy notes, I love warm and comforting scents, I like scents with a bit of mystery to them, also scents slightly alluring/sexy in a yummy way. I guess I'm looking for a warm, cosy, creamy (but not too sweet) vanilla scent with fitting notes and possibly musk or amber.

I live in New Zealand so I'm not sure if all perfumes are available to me but could someone please give me recommendations to try?

    I'll offer three suggestions:

Vanille Extreme by Comptoir Sud Pacifique
Vanille Bourbon by Les Senteurs Gourmandes
Absolu De Vanille by La Maison De La Vanille

Good luck on your quest and welcome to you!

I'm not sure what's available in NZ but my go-to vanilla scent is Indult Tihota. Vanilla and musk. Expensive, though.

My favorite is Eau Duelle by Diptyque. It's spicy and not sweet.

    Welcome!
Guerlain is famous for its vanilla. Shalimar is the classic vanillic oriental. I don't know what you mean by perfumey, but I am afraid you might find this perfumey-but who knows. There's also Guerlain Jicky, which is more musky.

Otherwise, to remain among the classics, Caron pour un homme is vanilla and lavender in perfect harmony. Simple, but perfectly balanced. And perfect for a woman too.

Vanillary by Lush/Gorilla Perfumes, Dior Addict & Hypnotic Poison.

One of the best vanillas l've tried is Memoirs of a Trespasser by lmaginary Authors; you can get samples from lndiescents.com.

l also recommend looking into La Maison de la Vanille's range of several different & inexpensive vanillas.

Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille, but if you want to save some money, get the ridiculously cheap Le Couvent des Minimes Eau des Missions Botanical Cologne of the Missions. They are very similar and the cost difference is very significant.

Then, with your savings, go buy some Creed Sublime Vanille or Angelique Encens.

Amber Oud by Kilian. A slight misnomer, with the oud being only mildly discernible in the background. The fragrance is much more about amber and vanilla.

My suggestion would be to buy a vanilla sampler pack from one of the big decant shops. As you can see, vanilla is done a 1000 different ways, from $30 to $230 and up. You will need to decide what type of vanilla you are after - boozy, woody, incense laced, cupcake like, sweet, bitter...and on and on. Sample first!!! And trust your nose, no matter what anyone else says. That "perfumey" smell will tell you if you have steered away from your comfort zone and into something that you won't enjoy - even if it sells for a load of money. Good luck!
