Default New Fragrance - YSL Splendid Woods

This is the 4th fragrance in the latest series from YSL - The Oriental Collection. It is expected to hit the market in March 2014. Bottle design is in line with other recent releases from the house.

Looks quite promising on paper with notes of cardamom, incense, sambac, jasmine petals, oud, cedar and cypriol.

    Thoughts?

I've tried the other three on a number of occasions and while they're 'powerful' I can't see them being worth the asking price in terms of quality. So I don't have high hopes for another addition to the line.

The note profile is intriguing. Hopefully it's better than the perfume version of L'Homme Parfum Intense. I was really looking forward to that release and it did nothing for me, wasn't a fan at all.

It doesn't have far to go to be better for sure. L'Homme Parfum Intense is awful.

OMG - this one is co-authored by Marie Salamagne! I love several of her works!

Where can you get this in the US? I've never seen this particular YSL line anywhere.

Wasn't able to track these down Stateside. Wound up buying them from Universal Perfumes & Cosmetics in Kuwait. Unfortunately out of stock there now.

When pigs fly I would pay 200 dollars for a L'oreal's YSL produced fragrances.

I tried all 3 and was not impressed with any of them.

Excellent! Thanks for that assessment. It has been my impression that the perfumer found her groove somewhere in the vicinity of Rose d'Arabie, which I thought struck an excellent (and IMO reasonably fresh) balance between a bunch of well-worn components. Definitely need to smell this one!

For US Basenoters, all four of the Oriental Collection are now available online at Saks at: http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/Yves-...v?Ne=399545537 or in store at only 5 in the US: Beverly Hills, Boston, Chevy Chase and two in Florida (wasn't told which two) Interestingly, the NYC 5th Avenue one doesn't carry them.

Estee Lauder is leagues better than L"Oreal, fragrance and cosmetics wise. YSL's Oriental collection is a very mediocre and trite group of fragrances. I tried all 4 and was not impressed with any of them. The only decent one was Noble Leather, which was clearly inspired by Tuscan Leather but with more fruitiness and less longevity/sillage.

For the nearly 300 dollars ( if you include tax) , there are much better options on the market.

Today we smelled a couple prive, rose d' arabie included, then went to YSL. Splendid woods and rose d' arabie were very similar. Nejma 2 is in a similar vein as well. For me, good but not bottle worthy at that price.

Are you sure you meant to say Splendid Woods and Rose D'Arabie are similar, instead of YSL's Majestic Rose and Rose d'Arabie? Splendid Woods smells nothing like RdA. That said, SW is excellent, excellent juice.

Yes, i said what i meant. Both have the same airy, almost tart oud with a rose accent. I don't know majestic rose so i will have to try it, but splendid woods and RdA smelled very similar to me.

I smelled them again today. Majestic rose is also very similar to RdA but in a different way. I bet layering both splendid wood and majestic rose you would be super closer to RdA.

I got a sample of this a few days ago. It's pleasant. Reminded me of 24 Gold and Oud Malaki by Chopard. I have both of those so won't be buying this (I would rather have this than the Chopard so that may be a plan).

As far as oud fragrances go its nothing special imo; especially if you already have a plethora of oud type perfumes.

I tested this a few times, and while its nicely constructed, its nothing great esp at 250 dollars for 80 ml, which is extremely ridiculous. There are better options out there at much better price points.
