    Hello folks

I'm in Shalimar edc today - from a newly acquired watch bottle. Extrait is lovely, of course, but there's something very liberating about splashing yourself with something that smells this good.

    All best for the day.

Hi everyone, hope you are enjoying your Thursday.

In the voluptuous beauty of vintage Paloma Picasso Mon Parfum EdP tonight. This is a stunning chypre ticks all the boxes for me (castoreum, civet, oak moss). The bergamot, florals are big and the animalic effect of castoreum and civet are noticeable straight off the bat. It then develops into a seductive amber mossy concoction with a rich honeyed sweetness mingling with woods and leather. Devastatingly good and in my experience better dabbed as spraying as it can be a sillage monster.

The fragrance notes reads like it includes everything but the kitchen sink:

Bergamot, hyacinth, ylang-ylang, clove, angelica root, iris, jasmine, lily of the valley, mimosa, coriander, rose, cedar wood, patchouli, sandalwood, castoreum, vetiver, oakmoss, civet, musk and tobacco.

These are items currently occupying a corner of my bed, I’m still deciding what to wear for dinner. It appears rather dark but I can assure you I haven’t evoked a Goth scenario nor am I about to jump on a Harley.

Right so, Sam! Splish-splash here, too with Miel de Bois, but much more moderate. Otherwise I would reek as far as France or even Australia.

Xscent, you take those pics with an Iphone or? You take some good ones I do like some elements of PP too, I do need try out vintage juice though.

Sampling one from Mike . Je Reveins. I like some things about it, like the jasmine but I find it rather soapy and light. I think it's a newer formulation? Perhaps I would prefer vintage. Thanks for the sniff though, Mike!

Thanks kalli. I use a DSLR and iPhone depends on what's handy. I studied art and dabbled in photography but it all fell by the wayside a few years ago...long story. The vintage is more animalic than the current version. The white glass is the parfum and the one I have in the black glass is EdP.

Larimar feel free to reek as much as you like, would love the smell some MdB all the way here.

    saminlondon +1 for splashing.

Wow. Cranberry, chocolate, sandalwood. Simultaneously fruity, gourmand, tart, creamy. Like one of those artisinal desserts you have at a fancy restaurant that takes your breath away. I'll be wearing it again this evening so I can give myself a full day to wrap my head around it.

    Good morning!

Jon, ya see, the thing with Iris Silver Mist is...I am sort of saving it. I know it's the benchmark, and so I sort of want to try everything *else* first. I can't wait to try it - it's like how "anticipation is the greater part of pleasure," like getting bummed out when you finish a great novel. I'm afraid I will feel like what else is there? once I have tried it so I am just enjoying the anticipation for now.

Today is a No.19 day, modern EDP with vintage EDT splashed on top.

Mike, glad you are getting to try Zahd! I've been sort of following all the Zahd hype on the general fragrance board and know you weren't privy to the IPO (or, *Only* PO, I should say) of Zahd, so it was wonderful of that birdie to send you a bit. I still haven't tried anything by Slumberhouse. One of these days I may jump on the bandwagon - from what I've read the line deserves the hype.

Yes, Jon, I expect ISM to be the pièce de résistance of irises, I really can't wait to try it. Someone has an ISM bell jar on ebay and while I would never buy a bell jar on ebay, that hasn't stopped me from drooling over it for a few days now.

    Good morning, good smelling ones.

I am in Fracas (parfum), nice floral.

Mike, I didn't like any of the slumberhouse smells I tried but that Zahd sounds good. I do think of them as producing "quality" scents AFA being rich, thick, interesting and lasting smells, but I tried Ore, Jeke and something else and they were all unpleasant to my nose. May have to go back and look at their website!

Day three in Balahé, this time layered with Fracas. By itself, I find the Fracas to be nearly soliflore and linear; adding Balahé to Fracas makes for a more complex tuberose experience, as the tuberose in Balahé is sweatier, more rubbery, and dirtied up with cumin and/or coriander.

    A pleasant day to all.

    Catching up since Tuesday …

Thanks for setting me straight on the Contemporary Arts Center, Evangeline.

ExtremeK: Two hours at Barneys without fellow BNers in tow--just you, the SA and all those bottles? That's intense!

Xscent: Don't be stingy with your demolition photos. Remodeling is a favorite porn.

    ErinK:
My sample of Iris Prima arrived … So, the next few minutes kind of went like this: Oh man, heaven. This might be my new iris! This is fantastic! Tra la la! Wait -- what just happened? Why does this suddenly smell pretty and not like an iris perfume at all? Where did the iris go? Come back, iris.
Eggs-Zak-Lee! That opening is one of the greatest a.n.d . t.h.e.n … why does it run away? Your comment: "anticipation is the greater part of pleasure," makes total sense to me, too.

The Grand Budapest Hotel looks perfect, Mike!

I'm wearing weird, wonderful, rosy Marni. I dumped a fair bit on this a.m., but will need a reapplication after lunch as it doesn't last very long.

Yep, Quarry, two whole hours, just me. When I was in Vegas, I spent about 2 hours at Barneys on each of 2 different days. There was a lot I hadn't sniffed. Love, love, love this habit o' ours.

Kiliwia, I owe you a PM, but I totally want to do it!

I'm glad it all worked out, kalli

I'm craving florals, too, teardrop. This latest polar vortex isn't cooperating, though.

People at work have realized I'm out all next week (hooray SPA!), but that meant today was a nightmare and tomorrow will be more of the same. But it's all worth it

It's Friday in my world and a long weekend, colour me happy.

Thanks Cello and teardrop I’m a sucker for a pair of cute heels. Jon Honors seal of approval is more than I could hope for and the lyrics are a hoot (school girls? really?).

Quarry I didn’t want to derail the thread as I go bit mad when talking decoré, architecture and renovations Grand Designs anyone? I’ll PM you demolition pics, I’m in the process of tearing out several bathrooms too.

Kiliwia I have a bucket load of sunshine, frangipanis and cocktails for you here.

ExtremeK you add art geek to my long list of geekiness. As for the heels, I’m short, I need to reach things and extra five inches helps (that’s my excuse anyway). Roberto's pic is brilliant, I admire anyone getting up that close for a snap.

In Bel Respiro after a big run. Synching later as I don't think I have any Estee's so I’ll need to ask mum to bring something when we meet for lunch. She’s such a champ when it comes to my quirks.

Whew! A busy day-- technically not Thursday any more in Connecticut, but better late than never.

I could not manage any scent today...I've been up to my eyes in college stuff all week. Specifically, their Financial Aid departments. It's been interesting discovering which schools have live people who answer the phones, which have a complicated answering system, and which don't return phone messages even after 2 days. Makes me think---these are the very financial aid officers we will have to communicate with (or play phone tag with) for the next 4 years. Some FAOs sound relaxed and encouraging, others seem to want to go out of their way to sound forbidding. One more factor to consider in evaluating college offers as they come in.

Tomorrow we'll be tramping, again, all over the same campus we visited last Saturday, but this time it's "Honors program day" or some such thing, when my daughter can find out what exactly is entailed in the Honors program she applied to. Tour the Honors dorms, read the Honors students theses, etc. An all-day affair. Supposedly the applicants are to learn very shortly who did or didn't get accepted into the Honors program, which comes with sizable scholarships (75% or full-tuition). It just seems to me the college could have waited to hold this Honors day for the people they actually accepted into the program. Pretty much a waste of time for everyone else....

    I will wear scent tomorrow!
