((ErinK)) lending you mine (check your PM!) blue skies whenever you need them. Nice Chanel porn yesterday and post renovation pics might be a way off given I can’t find a plumber for love nor money at the moment.

    Feel better soon kewart!

Jon I thought it was Marmite you Brits enjoy?

saminlondon you need to post pics more often, that lavender field is dreamy.

After all that talk about Aleksandr guess who paid me a surprise visit? I dropped off my bottle of Fleur de Louis to my sister this morning and came home to these (I adore this girl). Now I get the fun of floral bombing her with a bottle or two as a thank you. Let me introduce Aleksandr and Ernesto, two very nice smelling gentlemen I’m acquainting myself with.

Jon and ExtremeK I can see why you are fans of Aleksandr. The Russian leather accord comes through very clearly after the initial burst of florals and you’re right, it never gets into the skank territory. This one is perfect for someone who likes leather but not a whole biker worth.

Ernesto is actually a room spray from Cira Trudon and in the name of all things divinely scented it is a magnificent fragrance. In my sister’s words ‘I couldn’t resist, it covers so many of your olfactory vices’. Yes. It. Does. Ernesto is stunning woody chypre and the rich mix of rum, leather and tobacco is perfectly balanced. Hmmm, might this be a means around some pesky IFRA regulations? The bottle and atomiser are beautifully crafted too. I’ve use Cire Trudon for years but Ernesto has slipped under my radar.

Fragrance notes from Cire Trudon site: top note : rum, grapefruit, bergamot / middle : clove, oak wood, patchouli, labdanum / base : tobacco harmony, moss, leather, amber

Synched today with Beautiful, a lunchtime spritz compliments of a bottle mum had in her handbag. SotE is Aleksandr (time to form another fragrance sandwich with Jon and ExtremeK?).

Trilby Lark the sweet tobacco and leather in Ernesto might really work for you if it wasn’t a room spray I would say go sample this one.

    Good morning, everyone -

I'm actually in sync today, which rarely happens since I play tennis on Fridays, but I'm always delighted to play in Estée Lauder's Aliage ...it may seem very clichéd, but it's *fantastic* on court.

    Y'all have a great day!

Oh no, Kewart! I hope the pox passes quickly, and is not too hard on you.

I do worry about all the kids (including mine) getting vaccinated vs chicken pox, immunity from the shot wears off right as the disease becomes more complicated. Mind you, I got uncomplicated chicken pox when a little kid but then shingles when I was a young adult, not sure that is so much better.

    Good morning!

((kewart)) BOO on chicken pox. That sounds horrible. Hope they go away soon!

30 Roses, I was reading your post from last night reminiscing about the college search. So exciting for your daughter, but also exhausting, especially when you do an all day honors college tour not even knowing if she's accepted to it yet! (Surely she will be, based on what you have said of her!)

Xscent, thank you for the umbrella. I need to print it out and stick it on my wall at work.

Synching in a couple Lauders: started with Pure White Linen Light Breeze, a scent I wore years ago but not so much anymore. It's bright, crisp and green but a little too acidic-sweet (not sure how to describe what I am trying to get at) for me anymore. I wanted something creamy on top so added a bit of Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia to try to smooth it out a little bit.

For its accompanying pic I had to get a bit creative. The PWLLB ads are awful (Gwyneth Paltrow laying in a field with an inane quote like "Some days you relive forever" or something like that) and the PCTG ads are boring so here we have super hot former Lauder spokesmodel Liya Kebede posing with Carolyn Murphy's body with PCTG head.

kewart - sorry to hear that, it must be extremely uncomfortable ((bear hugs))
tdem1961 - I was wondering how long that parfum was going to last.
Xscent - my grandmother (Dad's mom) used to get a bottle of Beautiful every year for her anniversary. Just smelling it makes me think of my little wonderful grandma, always with a smile. It smelled fantastic on her. It's one of my favorite Lauders but one I cannot wear on myself because the olfactory memories are just too bittersweet.
Jon - I'm surprised that you haven't found an Estee Lauder to like. Have you smelled all of them?
ErinK - that ad made me laugh. LOL

    In Sync in:

Private Collection parfum by Estee Lauder

Just tiny dabs from my bottle. This stuff is nuclear & it really only feels appropriately unisex if I lightly apply it. Green, green, green. Lasts for ages. It will always be, my favorite Estee Lauder scent. I also love Youth Dew in a hot bath, and on a sunny bright Saturday morning there's nothing quite like the smell of White Linen but PC is just perfect.

I am driving today (I leave work early) to drive up to Lakeland, Florida and visit an old friend and his husband who moved up there from Fort Lauderdale last year. It's about 3.5 hours away from Miami. It's been a while since I've driven that far by myself in a car but I've stocked up with lots of music on my iPod and I'll probably make some phone calls from the car also to help pass the time. The weather is nice and cool (it was 67 degrees this morning - VERY cool for Miami at this time of year) so it should be a nice, relaxing chill weekend. I'm looking forward to it.

Well let me just hop on over to your place! Have you tried the room spray as well? My Cira Trudon standbys were Odalisque and Nazareth but I think Ernesto trumps them both. I agree it would be an astoundingly good personal fragrance. Come to think of it most of the Cira Trudon fragrances would work as a personal fragrances. Btw I can still see your original field of lavender pic!

Thanks Kiliwia leather paired with violets and fir balsam isn’t a combination I have come across before, but in Aleksandr it works.

Mike it’s wonderful you have such a lovely scent association with your grandma. My mum’s bottle is from the late 80’s, she would let me have spritz of it when I was young lots of happy memories.

    ErinK you crack me up.

Trilby Lark try it if you get the chance if nothing else you could scent your bed sheets.

Love your creativity. You are definitely in synch in my little corner of the world. Next year we should do a "Big Perfume" Friday. After all there is BigPharma, BigOil, etc, etc. and now there is BigPerfume. Estee Lauder, L'Oreal, LVMH, Proctor and Gamble, Coty, and Elizabeth Arden own so many of the perfume companies now. I think a lot of people would be surprised at how many of their favorites are actually owned by a large corporation.

    Great scent you picked too.

((kewart)), I hope you kick it quickly and feel better soon. Mocha, how are you doing? You're getting out and about in fine form, at least! It sounds like a great evening!

inneespenes!!!!!!! Welcome back, sweetie! We missed you

So, I have a synch STORY for today. My friends were gathered to watch NCAA volleyball last December at the home of one of said friend's mother (who is in her 80s -- the mother, not the friend ). Anyway, after a few drinks, I wander in the bathroom to use the facilities and what do I find but an antique wooden medicine cabinet, sans door, in which lined up are a bunch of VINTAGE minis of every old Estée Lauder fragrance you can imagine. You know, of course, what I did. I was that -- quite literally -- NOSY guest and started sniffing. I was powerless I tell you! And what looked like her oldest one was Private Collection. My eyes actually rolled back in my head. It was MAGNIFICENT! And I ran out into the living room and cried, "Oh my God, Jean, do you or your mom REALIZE the treasure trove she has in her bathroom??!! They just don't make them like this anymore!!" And of course they all looked at me like I was an absolute nutter, and I had to endure their merciless teasing the rest of the night. Anyway, I have sniffed the divine Private Collection as God fully intended it should smell, and it was glorious. So there's my synch story.

As it happens, I hadn't looked at Basenotes until just a few minutes ago and completely by chance (except of course, that Jon's SotD from a few days ago influenced me and I'm a completely shameless fragrance copy-cat), I'm wearing the lovely Arquiste Aleksandr, so, yes, Xscent, another sandwich is in order, but surely Jon can come up with a middle more appetizing than Vegemite! I continue a sucker for violets and, yes, the leather/violets/fir balsams combination of Aleksandr is wonderful!

    Great photos, ErinK!!

kumquat, I love your photo today. I want to be out there on the grass, watching those sheets flap in the wind. Goodness, I'm ready for spring!

Good treasure hunting and finding, Ek!

Tuscany Per Donna for the sync, do sniff this one if you haven't. Is this one that seems overlooked a bit? I think so. If you like Samsara, do sniff this one out.

Earlier, I was sampling Joy again..this time, a bit heavier application of parfum. I gotta say, I smelled like a dirty, ripe, wet cat that tried to cover up the funk with jasmine. I know I like civet a little but dang, a dirty, wet fur coat, or a damp cat that that hasn't been fixed and sprayed a little, or something. That's some ripe cat. Gross. Perhaps I would like a different concentration more? Hopefully, there is less animal funk in them? Also, the name Joy seems like it doesn't fit..maybe Catminora? lol. I like jasmine but not smeared over with ripe, kitty funk.

So there's my synch

kumquat, I love your photo today. I want to be out there on the grass, watching those sheets flap in the wind. Goodness, I'm ready for spring!
ExtemeK, How nice you found antique PC. It's the best! Love it! I have some in a naughty (aerosol) spray. It's glorious!
I'm dying for spring, too. It must be near. My neighbor is going crazy sucking up leaves again with his damn blower!

So sweet! A man and his mutt! This reminds me of my brother. When he left for school he never came back in time for his old dog's final days. The underwear and the parent's portrait are a riot!

    Hello again -

We've had a rather low-key Mardi Gras season so far, but we're getting into the swing of it tonight with our first big soirée of the season, and I always like to wear Ysatis at some point during Mardi Gras so that's what I'm in for the evening. It strikes a perfect balance of opulent grandeur plus joyful exuberance, a wonderfully festive, ornamental and rich perfume and I just *love* it. We're gathering a few friends here first for a few pre-soirée cocktails during the parades (Hermes, Krewe d'Etat and Morpheus are rollin' tonight) then once they're all done the real parties begin ...and I think I'm just about ready but still have a few details to see to, so I'd better go.

Y'all have a fabulous evening - laissez les bon temps rouler!

I think a lot of people would be surprised at how many of their favorites are actually owned by a large corporation.

    Great scent you picked too.
Thank you! I like the idea of Big Perfume day.

LOL Jon! That bacon sandwich made me laugh!

((kewart)) I spent my 5th birthday in bed with chicken pox. The itching is maddening, but remember that cool compresses reduce itching. Benadryl also reduces itching but it makes one sleepy.

ErinK, thanks for the encouragement! It was a long day but it gave us all a better idea of what their Honors program entails, and 13 students in the program presented their senior theses. We had a nice chat with the director of the So it was definitely worth it-- even if it was 17º F when we arrived. That made for one coooold walk! And now we're getting more snow Sunday and Monday.
