Happy Monday and hugs to all that are feeling poorly.

Mike so many dates so little time, I’m in awe. Way to go!

Jon for you, I came across the work of a local photographer who documents the fragile bird life around the Mandurah wetlands. His work is just beautiful and he literally lies in wait for days to capture the perfect shot.

It’s been a picture perfect weather wise so I took my work outside. Spent the afternoon reading and eating gelato on a picnic blanket under the dappled shade of a London Plane tree, enjoying the occasional waft of Sous Le Vent that caught my nose and watched the pigeons do their funny little preening dance.

Continuing the Guerlain love-in with vintage Derby tonight for a few hours reading.

    Hello, everyone -

I'm in vintage Miss Dior for ballet this morning, 60s parfum and edt...

...and then we're headed to Houston this afternoon to witness the utter brilliance of Annie Clark, aka *St. Vincent*, at the House of Blues tonight, and I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about that. I wore Mystère de Rochas the last time we saw her here at Tipitina's, so I've got that packed to continue that successful scent/sound association. I've been rather obsessed with her for the last five or six years, and her recent masterpiece did absolutely nothing to cure me of that, lol, but I thought I'd include this gorgeous track from her phenomenal '07 debut album for your listening pleasure. ♥

Y'all have a fantastic day - I'll see you tomorrow!

Evangeline, have a great time! I can only imagine what a dynamic show that will be. She played a sold out show here last Tuesday - I thought of going but I've really only scratched the surface of her music (although you could've talked me into going just to gawk at her - that's girl crush territory.) I'm looking forward to giving the new album a listen.

    Good morning, good smelling people!

Reglisse Noire today, my "smart" smell for work after a slow start. We spent the weekend at the Gasparilla Music Festival, big wow, great music and very friendly inviting atmosphere, the kids could just run around, food and drink and Drinks, and the music was incredible. Among others Trombone Shorty, Jason Isbell, and Anders Osborne, Amigos Invisibles from Venezuela, Matt Woods, Spam All Stars (who have been so great every time I have seen them, they are just a local Miami group but very good sound) and more.

30R, so many congratulations to your daughter. Look very carefully at the aid packages, for my girls it ended up much more affordable to let them go to the more expensive private school because the financial aid at a private "no loan" college (which the Ivys are, but others too) includes room and board. The difference over two kids college career is well over $100k savings for our family even though at first glance it would have appeared the state school was a better deal. Not that price is everything but it helps the kids so much to at least get undergraduate done without big loans. You can PM if you like, I'm doing taxes and financial aid right now (well not RIGHT now- I am at work- but in the next couple of weeks I need to wrap it up so it's on my mind) so if there is anything you want to ask about the process I might be able to help, or one of my daughters might be able to be a sherpa for your daughter.

ErinK was it my glasses that freaked you out? Sorry hon, they are pretty geeky. My jaw dropped first time I saw David Rennie's work. I can only imagine the skill and dedication it took to capture the images. The one I posted I find particularly brilliant and yes, somewhat freaky.

Trilby Lark smelling great and good luck in the new job. Hope they all appreciate the wonderful perfume you are treating them with. I’m not sure I’d be above a good spite spraying or leaving sneaky perfume cards drenched in scent if someone were to take issue with my beloved CdR.

A bit more Derby and it's off to be with me. It's now half past midnight and I have to be up in a handful of hours for a run. Enjoy your day.

Thanks, Robin! So true about state vs. private schools' financial aid packages. This was true back in my day as well-- my private alma mater gave me a much better financial aid package than UConn did.

Xscent - I don't really like speed-dating myself, it just sort of happened that way when I was planning things out. I am actually looking forward to not doing anything next weekend. Let's see how that goes. lol
Evangeline - have a great time @ the concert. I, surprisingly, have never actually listened to her stuff until now when I just listened to the track you posted. I keep bumping into her name a lot, that's for sure.
Robin-in-Fl - yes SPAM Allstars are local guys here who've made it pretty big. I've heard them several times & each time they put on a good show. It's not really my sort of music, but it's hard to deny their talent when seeing them live.

Day #1 of juicing. Hungry. Cranky. Coffee-withdrawal-headache. Normal stuff. I'm waiting for the first jarring side effects to pass, I should be feeling 'normal' hopefully by tomorrow. For now, my mental focus is already starting to sharpen. It's hard to describe, it's like 'tunnel vision' for your brain. I like it and it happens every time I fast/cleanse. And yes, 30 Roses, the cleanse since it's only juices I'm drinking is purely carbs, absolutely no protein. Each juice is around 200 calories so I'm ingesting approximately 1200 calories a day. But the absence of protein is not a problem, considering I am not ingesting any other food. The juices are full of vitamins, not added, but from the real vegetables themselves. The juice is raw (cold pressed). Nothing is added - it's just juice which is why I have to keep them constantly refrigerated.

I needed something comforting, obviously, so I reached for my favorite comfort scent:

Shalimar (Eau de Parfum) by Guerlain

This picture (I copied it from the 'net) trips me out. What is that in the background? Italian food? In an industrial kitchen? Wtf?

Thanks for the fragrance porn Xscent Very glad you took some time for yourself yesterday (or was that today, in Oz?).

Loved all the kitty pix on Sunday!

Congratulations on the new job, Trilby Lark!

I'm definitely back to my regular life but with some changes. At the suggestion of one of the spa consultants, I've added some quiet time right before bed and first thing in the morning for some gentle yoga, stretching, and mindfulness stuff. And it was great last night and this morning. My goal is just to make it part of my daily routine -- a lifestyle change rather than a "diet," but for the soul. I still feel good and quiet, even back at work. So that's something.

Also, the robins were out yesterday evening on my walk!!! Hooray!! And the geese and ducks have been flying north. I'm taking these as good signs.

Thank you for the kind wishes everybody

I've had a most frustrating and painful day. I went to see my GP this morning and the first thing she did was to ring the hospital and arrange for me to go there immediately, so I've been having a whole selection of tests, examinations and x-rays, which haven't conclusively worked out what is going on to cause the inability to walk at the moment but have shown that I have very well developed osteoarthritis in that knee. Deep joy.

They aren't so sure that the big thing that is making the joint clunk is a loose ligament and think it may be a piece of extra bone instead, which will take a load more tests when my knee is a bit less sensitive, so they gave me the good news that it should start to hurt less in 4-6 weeks

And the thing that thoroughly got to me today is that I went out so early to see my doctor that I didn't have chance to put on any perfume, so I spent the whole day being got at by a whole selection of medics without even having a fabulous scent as armour

I've put on some Miss Dior worn with some very natty pyjamas since getting home though

I went into work today but wound up leaving early to go to the doctors….just feel rotten. She say's I've got bronchitis but it's complicated by asthma. So I'm on a Z-Pac, two kinds of cough medication & a different routine with my two asthma inhalers. Hopefully, this will take care of matters.

No scent today, just din't feel up to enjoying one.

sfmedusa - oh wow, sounds like a trying day indeed. I hope the solution to the pain and inability to walk come soon. I was having lunch today with an older friend who's going to have to have a minor procedure done on his prostate Wednesday and he was just so frustrated, I spent the entire lunch just listening to him and sort of letting him vent. The doctor's office he's having the procedure done at had rescheduled his surgery already two times...he doesn't drive so he relies on friends to drive him to and from the hospital so he was concerned that he'd be a burden to them...he had to cancel seeing a concert and a show this weekend. Getting sick and needing medical care can sometimes be very frustrating. I hope that it all works out for the best. ((bear hugs))
Mocha & 30 Roses - thanks the juices are very well done. I'll post a picture of them tomorrow, even the bottles / packaging are gorgeous. Seriously
ExtremeK - that daily 'quiet time' sounds like just the thing. Once you have it as a part of your life, it will be easy. I did a daily meditation, every morning, 15 minutes - for about 6 months and it really invigorated me. It was some of the most serene moments of my life, in the middle of my new life as a single man, a tough time. The power of getting 'quiet' cannot be overstated.
RHM - I was hoping you'd pick 'Gatsby' as his name, that was my favorite of the two. Yay! Take your Rx and get some rest. ineespenes, you get rest too! ((hugs))
TrilbyLark - how was your first day at your new job? I've been at my current job for 10 years now, I sort of forgot what it feels like to be at a new job. Sort of like first day of school, I would imagine.

Tonight, I got to spend some time, after work, at a place I haven't been in years. I won't go into specifics but it was a place that I got a lot of help from, many many years ago, and I had the ability to go tonight & help others. Just walking in there all of these memories came back - it was a mixture of nostalgia, nervousness & joy. It made the end of a very challenging day (with my hunger) very wonderful.

I was scent twins with ineespenes:

    Egoiste by Chanel

Before all of the cold weather leaves us for good I had to get in one more wearing of this fruit/spice/sandalwood powerhouse. It's so satisfying, on so many different levels, this one. A classic, for sure. Thanks to matildaben, for splitting a bottle of this with me, back when we were in Las Vegas at the BN meetup.
