Hello everyone, gentle hugs to all that are not feeling well and anyone else that needs one.

Mike I’m enjoying your juice diaries (I remember last years!). You only have to wave a macaron or some blue cheese in front of me and I would cave in an instant.

ExtremeK I was working, it just happened to be outside while eating ice-cream. Just like I’m working at the moment on the balcony with a glass of wine.

RMH is hubby still set on Chomsky? Will be a Gastby/Chomsky standoff? I vote Gastby too.

It’s been a veerry long day. Sometimes I feel like I’m mediating disputes between children who need to learn to play nicely together and share their toys, rather than adults in charge of very large projects. Après l'Ondée tonight.

Good morning, the sun has risen on the new world, the light is slanting off the water and the city in the distance is lightly covered in mist, so beautiful.

Got some samples from Indiescents (shipped from Canada, oddly, my other packages from them have come from California) so today am in Jane Booke Taken perfume. It is quite nice, mango-ey and "deep", it smells like night, or winter, not summer light sunny.

Thank you to Xscent, Jon Rodgers, ExtremeK, Mike Perez33 and others for your well wishes on my new job yesterday. In answer to Mike's question about what it's like to start a new job, I would say it's very much like the first day of school. Who will be my friend? Is the teacher/boss nice? Will I pass the test? Good morning!

Mike, kudos to you on the 7 day juice cleanse. Hope day 2 is going even better than day 1! I don't think I'd have the will power to do it, in fact, the thought of going without coffee is enough to make me twitchy...

Day #2 is much better than yesterday. Not as hungry (in fact it's weird, I didn't have my first juice until almost 10 am and I woke up around 7 am), no coffee-headache, and less cranky (although a trip to the Post Office to pick up a package made it tempting to go 'postal' on the stupid employees who work there and had the door locked at 8:40 when the office opens up at 8:30!!!!).

I said yesterday I'd post a picture of the juices I'm taking so here they are. Juice porn, eh? ((giggle))

I must admit - I love the bottles. Look at that font on the bottles & the graphic design. Gorgeous! Is that silly? I'm a sucker for nice packaging.

    Sampling, for the 2nd time:

    Zahd by Slumberhouse

This is such a challenging scent for me. I'm still not sure if I actually like it or not. Maybe it's the juicing, because I know that my senses are heightened, but some of the notes in this one are slightly jarring.

Mike, it's totally not silly! I love them too. I love that they're shaped sort of like old fashioned milk bottles and I love the simplicity of the design. That cashew, vanilla, cinnamon, agave one sounds delicious. I didn't realize you bought the juices - I had pictured you going at it with a juicer in your kitchen making it all on your own. You could *maybe* talk me into doing one now that I know you can just buy them, and they are pretty.

Loving the Zahd porn, too. That bottle looks "positively medieval" (said in English accent a la Mr. Bingley in 2005 Pride & Prejudice *nerd alert*) and the red juice is soooo gorgeous.

    Default Re: S.O.T.D. - Tuesday, 11 March, 2014.

    Good morning, everyone!

Well, I've got a lot more "get up 'n' go" than I thought I'd have this morning after dragging myself out of bed (actually, that's not really what happened since *Tony* dragged me out of bed, lol) at the crack of dawn to catch an early flight back here, but I've got a sub for work so I have the whole day free to do what I want ...which translates to "laze around all day watching the tennis from Indian Wells" (very excited about Dolgopolov's thrilling victory over Nadal - did you see it cello?)

Anyway, there are simply no words for how amazing that concert was last night ...if you're familiar with St. Vincent you know what I mean, and if not, well, that's too bad and you really should do something about that. We also had the most delicious and authentic Vietnamese food I've had this side of the Pacific, which of course contributed to a perfect evening. Now I'm determined to recreate the entire meal from start to finish, so that could take up a bit of my day as well.

Now on to the perfume talk. I'm in another one from Aunt Sylvie, and it's a doozy! It's Senso, from Ungaro, and I'm absolutely swooning from the grand and glorious perfuminess of it. Senso was created in 1987 by Jacques Polge, and it's another one with *lots* of notes, but they're all so well blended they're hard to isolate ...but again, that's not really the point. Listed notes include bergamot, grapefruit, coriander, mandarin, rose, peach, plum, orange blossom, jasmine, carnation, heliotrope, orchid, tuberose, ylang, amber, benzoin, cedar, cinnamon, musk, opoponax, patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla and tonka ...wow. I can hardly believe I'm only coming across it now - it's *superb* and I can only hope that there's more of this stuff out there, somewhere.

mike - continued good luck to you with that juice fast of yours. I'm relieved to see that some of the ingredients do actually provide you with your necessary protein (cashews, kale, spinach) especially important if you're still working out ...are you? And btw, it *is* a surprise that you're not familiar with more of St. Vincent's music. I actually chose the track I posted yesterday with you in mind, as I figured you'd already heard her latest, and "Landmines" is a bit more accessible to the uninitiated, but I was really more inclined to post Digital Witness.

Editing to add - what a sweet and romantic pic you've chosen Erin. Very nice.

Science is not only compatible with spirituality, it is a profound source of spirituality. When we recognize our place in an immensity of light-years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual. ..Carl Sagan

    Hi all,

Mike; l agree those bottles look great, & surely not having to make it all yourself makes the job a whole lot easier.

l gave a second wearing to my sample of L'Eau d'Hiver today, & enjoyed it more this time. For me it works much better in early spring than in winter, & it makes a nice "clean" scent suitable for work. lt still smells like Johnson's Baby Lotion, though.

Healing hugs to all who need them, & welcome to the newer members here!

Ah, Xscent, you can't save your quiet and relaxation time all for Bali, lovely though it is. Be good to yourself, sweetie And thanks for that lovely BdI + cashmere porn yesterday

Mike, color me impressed -- from your willpower, to those bottles, to the yummy-looking juice inside them! Juice porn, indeed! I maybe, just maybe, could join up with Erin in trying it if all I have to do is grab a bottle from the refrigerator! Of course, then I'd miss my morning coffee in bed with David, which is one of my favorite things....

Mocha, is everything OK with your mom? I hope you didn't need too stiff an upper lip today. Hugs!

ErinK, you're killing it with those photos! So interesting to see Hemingway at that age, in full-on smile -- and to know the demons he struggled with later and the amazing prose borne of those struggles. That's a special one.

It's wintry-mixing here again, but it's supposed to be back to 40s and sunny tomorrow. We'll see....

I think cello and Jon's comments about this got me intrigued. I sampled M. Micallef Guiac today and I *really* like it!

    Good evening!

You guys are killing me today. So many SOTDs today are on my to try list... HdP 1889, What We Do In Paris is Secret, Vega, Apres L'Ondee, just to name a few. (And Evangeline, your Senso sounds absolutely *fabulous* too.) I think it might be time for me to put in a sample order.

Jon, your little smiley attacking that bunny and then that smug chocolate grin on his face cracked me *up*!!! I don't know where you find these little guys but they kill me every time. And Jon and Shades, I'm glad to know I'm in good company in Prelude to Love. I've said it before but it's one of the happiest scents I own, and it sounds super cliche but there really is something innocent about it. Somehow (and I think this is why I love it so much) it manages to be energizing and calming at the same time.

ExtremeK, good for you for keeping up your mindfulness techniques at home! It is so easy to fall back into same old patterns: the challenge is making good habits. Are you having to get up much earlier than you used to for your quiet time, and if so, have you found that a challenge? And glad you liked this photo; I have always been fascinated with Hem and especially his relationship with Agnes.

For the past 15 minutes I have been sitting very still holding my wrist over my nose inhaling very deliberately -- yep, you guessed it, I'm in Iris Prima again. This is one that to fully enjoy needs to be given undivided attention. Basically, you need to be sitting on your couch and if your TV is on it should be something mindless, as in, DVR of "The Bachelor" finale when you never watched a single episode of the season (really, this guy is AWFUL - THE WORST). After 15 minutes or so can you remove wrist from nose to turn off the Bachelor because the best part of the perfume has vanished into thin air. (But I'm going to watch maybe just a *little bit more* - it's such a trainwreck and I can't avert my eyes *just yet*. Don't judge.)

Thanks everyone for the supportive and funny comments. It's actually much easier than last time I did it. Yes, I get cravings but it's easy to resist my "wont-power". One thing that happens when I fast (maybe this happens to you) but you suddenly realize how much TIME you spend planning meals, buying food, preparing it, choosing what you want to eat, worrying if you're eating too un-healthy, sitting in line, sitting in restaurants, cleaning the dishes, cleaning the kitchen, etc. When you juice cleanse, you don't have to do any of that. It's like a little 'vacation' not just for your digestive system but it also gives me a bit of a break on something in my life that's so time consuming.

Today at a lunch sales meeting, the condo conversion project we visited had the most delicious spread of food that they'd catered for everyone. It took willpower to walk away from the food and not keep staring at it. But I was fine after a few minutes.

My favorite juice is, like shadesofbleu and ErinK mentioned, the Cashew one. It's like 'dessert' since I get to have it last at the end of the day. It's not very thick, so it's more like a cashew milk consistency, but it doesn't really taste as 'raw' as the juices do. Actually my very favorite is the PAM (pineapple, apple & mint). The combo is delicious & very fragrant too. I wish there was a scent that smelled like that.

And yes, it would be MUCH more of a hassle if I'd had to make my juices. I'm lazy. I just bought them. They're exactly what I needed (organic, cold pressed, raw, variety of flavors). They are a bit pricey, but I only do this twice a year, so I splurge on myself. The brand is Blueprint.

I did go to the gym tonight, I did a very light workout, and now I'm sitting here after a hot shower in a cloud of:

Xscent - I feel like I'm mediating children sometimes too. Realtors, who I work with, can be very childlike. Who needs kids? Just try to manage a bunch of realtors.
ErinK - I love that new Slumberhouse bottle too. I don't own it, I'm sampling this from a sample. But supposedly they're changing all of the scents to new bottles soon. Oh and I've never smelled Prelude to Love but I went on a date a couple months ago with this guy and fragrances came up in the conversation and he said that PTL was his favorite scent. I was like, wow!
Trilby Lark - Yes, hopefully your 'second day at school' went well & you had fun in the playground with all of the other kids.
cello - I am really warming to Dries Van Noten also. BN member mr. reasonable wrote a wonderful mini review of it on the Shalimar thread in the mens forum, it really hit the nail on the head on how he experiences the scent. If you can't find it, let me know, I'll see if I can find it and copy it.
Evangeline - so glad the concert & the whole night was wonderful. You're right to be surprised, there's absolutely no reason why I should not have explored St. Vincent by now. Just like fragrances - there is just TOO MUCH MUSIC out there in the world. Thanks for your intro to her.
teardrop - it took me years to 'get' L'Eau d'Hiver. All I smelled was baby lotion, like you, when I first sampled it. Much later on, after falling in love with Apres l'Ondee and other heliotrope scents I sort of saw how unique and interesting it was.
kumquat - I always love the photos you choose for your SOTD posts. I look forward to seeing them every day

Hoping sfmedusa, RHM, Ineespenes, danieq and Mocha's mom are feeling better

Gatsby is spending his first night at home. He's secluded but is so sweet & mellow, we're considering introducing him to his fellow house cat sooner rather than later.

Xscent, my husband is still set on naming the new lad "Chomsky" but we'll sway him to our way of thinking. The kitty cat has sparkly aqua eyes & is a large silver classic tabby. Definitely a "Gatsby"! I'm glad he's here but sad I still am sick with bronchitis & whatever else has now taken up residence in my sinus.

We had the kitty all set up in my master bedroom suite, there's 4 rooms all together & I thought it would give him the perfect transitional area. Problem, my already irritated breathing passages just weren't coping with a stressed (& therefore shedding) cat in close quarters. To my daughters' delight, Gatsby has been relocated to her study.

I vacuumed & am breathing a bit better. Weird, because I am not allergic to cats. Just having difficulty breathing lately.

As far as fragrance went, I wore Guerlain AA Mandarine Bassilic but couldn't smell it. Think I should just hold off until this passes. The sooner the better. I want to hang out with my new adoptee.

    Love you all!

RHM, Gatsby sounds like the perfect name for a cat (cat = "gatto" in Italian).

A little break from fragrance is probably a good idea while your respiratory system heals.
