    Default Best vetiver

I wore a sample of vetiver extraordinaire that easykiller was kind enough to give me today. It only my second foray into vetiver other than guerlain. It was very nice indeed. What are the better ones i should try?

I have tried a good handful of the classics and some of the the best rated, but the sheer simplicity and quality of CdG Vettiveru always brings me back to it. It is dirt cheap as well, and for some people (for example students like me ), that is an important factor. When I get a stable and large income, I might go try some of the expensive ones (Sycomore is already on my to buy list, and has been for a while), and I will invest in those as well.
But for now, I am immensely happy with Vettiveru

To me it's Encre Noire. It has a very pronounced vetiver note, back by a dark cypress note in the dry down and a dark "inky" vibe. Dark, but not scary. One of my favorite scents ever, and certainly the best vetiver, great projection/longevity and very affordable. Sycomore which is similar to EN would be my 2nd choice, it's quite similar, without the dark vibe, but it's too expensive.
    My Ultimate Top 5:

    Fahrenheit (1988)
    Le Vetiver Itasca (2010)
    Arpege pour Homme (2005)

My favorite is Mona di Orio - Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver closely followed by Vetiver Extraordinaire. Third place is Givenchy's Vetiver.

Villoresi's Vetyver is a roller coaster but for sheer, smooth class I can't get enough of Sycomore.

Vetiver threads popping up left and right, I LOVE it. If you can, try Dior Vetiver. It's by far the best vetiver fragrance I've encountered. My second favorite vetiver fragrance is Les Nez Turtle Vetiver Back. If you're looking for something less expensive, Comme des Garcons Vettiveru.

There are so many excellent ones. Two of the many I enjoy are Haitian Vetiver by Zegna and Givenchy Vetyver

    Default Best vetiver

I enjoy the Dior Vetiver offered exclusively at the Neiman Marcus at San Francisco

The Frederic Malle Bois D'Orage is extremely overpowering in Vetiver but it drys down nicely. Quite reminiscent of Christmas trees, just like Burberry Brit for Men.

My personal vetiver top five is probably Sycomore (smoky rooty), Route du Vétiver (earthy green), Sel de Vétiver (salty fresh), Vétiver Tonka (spicy sweet) and Villoresi's Vetiver (dark rooty).

    1) Sel de Vétiver (TDC) - cool iris and marine notes - brightest vetiver of them all
    2) Vetiver Pour Elle (Guerlain) - perfumey in the Guerlain way - amazing stuff
    3) Dior Vetiver - sweet grassy coffee vetiver - awesome
    4) Vetiver Tonka (Hermès) - powdery tonka and vetiver - brilliant opposition
    5) Grey Vetiver (Tom Ford) - buttery citrus vetiver - perfect for office and summer
    6) Original Vetiver (Creed) - soapy soft vetiver - possibly the cleanest of them all
    7) Vetiver Babylone (Armani Privé) - amazingly clear vetiver with a unique signature

Sel de Vétiver is by far my fave. I will admit - I like "girly" vetivers.

Oh yes, Vetiver 1948 is awesome, I have but a small amount left, maybe 20ml, so I don't wear it often. But I have to say that as much as I enjoy it, I think Dior Vetiver is still my absolutely favorite vetiver of all times.

EDIT: I should perhaps add - one big reason I don't think Vetiver 1948 is "all that" is because it lasts a whole 2 hours before completely disappearing. It's a good two hours, sure, but for that kind of money - I really expect something that lasts a lot longer. Even Chanel's ultra light Eau de Cologne lasts much longer than this.

    My favorites are:

Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver by Mona di Orio
    Supercillium by O'driù
Turtle Vetiver Front by LesNez (near impossible to find if you don't own it already, as it was a limited edition that is sold out)
Coeur de Vetiver Sacré by L'Artisan (though more of a spiced bergamot tea fragrance with a transparent Vetiver heart (think spiced Earl Grey)
Vetiver Extraordinaire by EdP Frédéric Malle
    Sycomore by Chanel

for a less expensive option, Encre Noire by Lalique is a great one that won't break the bank.
