    Default Shangrilide....yes!!!!

Spending some time with this one today and all I can say is.....YES!!! No need to search for the animal in this one, its there and in abundance. So far this is the best musk deer substitute I've smelled. So much better than animalid...sooo much. We'll see how it dries down and then I'll throw some florals at it....exciting stuff for me....I love this. Oh, and BTW, I wouldnt even have known about this material if it were not for this forum....many thanks. You know who you are...lol.

I also got some.. Pretty cool stuff.. What is weird is that it says it's mainly made from galaxolide,
which is just too much laundry-fresh for me..

That is weird indeed, as Im not getting laundry from it at all.

Shangrilide is an IFF musk that tries to duplicate the animalic quality of Musk tincture. It is based on Galaxolide with some added extras. Very good, and reminds me of proper Musk tincture.

I concur. I actually pulled the small vial of tincture I have out and its very close...kudos to IFF.

I wonder whether it has a similar exalting effect in different accords? Also, Tonquin musk is quite naughty/alluring.

My guess is that galaxolide was used to support other more expensive ingredients, but moreover because of its universal appeal, a quality shared by musk.

It still contains a controversial ingredient, but one could GC-MS it and replace the galaxolide, if that would be proper.

If you GC/MS Shangralide all you see is Galaxolide. Whatever is used to turn Galaxolide into a fair approximation of genuine Musk must be very strong and used at very low levels.

    No Problem.

Synonyms of any material can be found at TGSC website.

Thanks for this, but I wouldn't pay too much attention to these synonyms on TGSC. They are all just names for other musk blends.

Oh really? They are different materials?

Then it's totally misleading filing them under „synonyms”!
My apologies for multiplying this nonsense.

I have a sample from a Supplier here, (John D. Walsh), and may in time either buy a kilo myself, or get Perfumer Supply house to stock it.

Think I recall it being available at the Perfumers Workshop site too. I'm too lazy to double check at the moment, but pretty sure I found two sources for small amounts when I checked.

Paul, what do you think about Apo Pachone? I smelled it the other day, and thought you'd probably like it..

Apo Patchone, (with a "t" in it...)

I looked but didn't see any in the Patchouli basket. But I do have the Patchone, PTBCH:
    http://www.thegoodscentscompany.com/data/rw1013262.html

That I use .... :-) They have different Evap Curves, Apo is short lived... Patchone PTBCH is a crystal, so it lasts a long time and is a cleaner Patch than real Patchouli. Patchone is called a Patch replacer...

But I'd bet Apo would be nice in a leather, I'll have to get some. :-)

Hmm.. It smelled more leathery than patchouli to me (though it's not strictly leather).. That's why I thought of you

Walsh and Ventis supply it, and of course CP. There was a Google entry for PW searching for shangralide, but it was a dead end. I had remembered that incorrectly. Sorry.

Thanks to PK for sending some off. I am wondering when that site will be functional, though. I guess nobody knows but them.
