Default Mood uplifting, citrusy, fresh, no musky cologne?

I'm not very well acquainted with various notes so trying to find a good cologne or perfume to sample is getting more difficult than I thought.

I'm looking for a cologne or unisex perfume that is mood-uplifting, citrusy, fresh, and not woody or musky.

I absolutely love freshly cut smell of lemon, orange, or lime. I've been searching for some and many of them seem to have musk or woody or spice notes mixed in them. Although I do enjoy musk, woody, and spice notes, if I want to have a citrus-y fragrance, I think I would want it to be absolutely refreshing and clean.

These caught my attention and they seem to be mentioned a few times:

    Eau Sauvage
    Terre d'Hermes
    Eau D' Hadrien

Is there something that just make your nostrils open up when you smell it, and lifts up your mood?

Two that come immediately to mind as fresh and uplifting are Hermes Concentré d'Orange Verte and Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Pamplemousse. Both are delicious and zesty, excellent for the summer.

Terre D' Hermes grows on you. First time sampling it was put in the no way file. After giving it another shot, it jumped to my top 5. So called dirty orange peel vibe is addicting.

Guerlain Homme L'Eau, if you can find it.

Otherwise the various Verbena frags from L'Occitane always cheer me up, but with nothing much in the way of basenotes, they don't last much over an hour.

Agree with this one, it's very clean and bright.

My own favourite uplifting citrus is Eau d'Aviateur by Atelier Flou, but the sandalwood note may discount it for you.

    Guerlain Homme L'Eau

    Dior Homme Sport

    EDIT

Wow, I didn't realize Guerlain Homme L'Eau and Almost Transparent Blue had both been recommended already. Nice! So....+2

I think Diptyque is one of the best brands to look for citrusy/natural/ fresh fragrances. Their Eau de Tarocco is unbelievable.
    My current top five:

    Etro - Vetiver
    Boucheron - Jaipur Homme
    Serge Lutens - Fumerie Turque
    Hermès - Equipage (vtg)
    YSL - M7 (vtg)

Many good ones already mentioned (I second among others the concentree d'orange vertes). Be aware that citruses are fleeting, so for most frags, either they go away and you have to reapply, or they move somewhere else (spicy, woody, etc).

I would say my top "non-musky" citruses that are uplifting are:

Selection Verte/Eau d'Hadrien (they have a similar note breakdown)
Menthe Fraiche (very uplifting, super underrated)
    L'Humaniste
    Neroli Portofino
    Jardin D'Amalfi

Most uplifting scent that comes to mind is definitely Creed Virgin Island Water. Lime, rum, coconut and sugar cane. Tropical vacation in a bottle. Minty frags also do the drink. Guerlain Homme Intense is a lime, rum, mint scent with a sweet touch... You might like it.

    Hi sinefine. Welcome to Basenotes!

I love your question! It seems to me that you might find what you are looking for in a classical style Eau de Cologne (if you don't mind reapplying). There is nothing like the mood lifting, feel good impact of a good Cologne. It sounds like you are looking for something unfettered and sparkling which is not bogged down with basenotes and Cologne would match that spec. The best of the best in my view is Santa Maria Novella Acqua di Sicilia, straight up citrus cut through with a clean sharp green note, cypress I think. Nothing comes close.

You might also like to try Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet or Dior Granville (or Eau Suavage for that matter) where your citrus ir rounded out with herbal notes but they are still clean and refreshing.

    Good luck and report back!

A lot of good recommendations above. I personally would not recommend Terre d'hermes for your purposes. It is more of an earthy, dirty orange than an "uplifting" citrus. I think Menthe Fraiche, L'humaniste and Guerlain Homme L'eau are the way to go.

I believe The Scent of Peace for Him by Bond 9 would be exactly what you are looking for...even the name is uplifting! Neroli Portofino is another excellent suggestion-- although you might want to sample Gendarme or 4711 first. They smell very similar and are a fraction of the cost. Of course, Virgin Island Water is about the most refreshing fragrance out there!

I also agree that you should try TdH and Eau Sauvage first. While they fit your criteria, they can be a little "old man" smelling...at least that's what I thought when I first sampled them. Of course, now I own and love both (in fact Eau Sauvage is my SOTD).

I agree with the above recommendation for Guerlain's Eau de Cologne Imperiale. Creed's Bois de Cedrat and Trumper's Extract of Limes would also work. Of course, none of these have very good staying power, but if want citrus without any woody / musky notes then it's unlikely to last.

The ones you mentioned (Terre d'Hermes, Eau d'Hermes and Eau Sauvage) are all excellent, but I'm not sure that they will provide the clean, unadulterated freshness that you're looking for.

I prefer bergamot over lemon for citric.
Sure, they're in no way alternatives, if anything they're complementary. Bergamot is citric but not as tart/mouth puckering as lemon.

Bergamot by The Different Company is excellent.

Orange is very uplifting as well. Bigarade Concentre.

I have taken a liking to Salvatore Ferragamo's Tuscan Soul lately. Nice projection and longevity, especially for a citrus fragrance. Pretty much a perfect unisex fragrance, although it leans a little to the feminine side. I'd love my lady to wear this fragrance.

It has become one of my favorite warm weather fragrances, and it's amazingly cheap.
