Default Petition to oppose the ban of oakmoss ..

As some of you know, the EU intends to completely ban Chloroatranol and Atranol. These chemicals are essential components of oak moss and tree moss, and without them, chypres and fougères may all but disappear. Moreover, oak moss can be found in the base notes of perfumes of every type because it is an excellent fixative which dramatically extends the longevity of a fragrance. Lyral® is also on the chopping block, and though you may not automatically recognise the name, this material is integral to the formula of many popular perfumes. "Aventus", "Coco" and "Poison" and its flankers are just a few of the fragrances that would have to be completely re-worked if the pending law is enacted.

Although this legislation is pending in Europe, it will have an impact on perfume the world over if it is passed. If history is any indication, the IFRA is sure to embrace the law and perfume houses will be forced to adopt the new guidelines, resulting in massive reformulations and discontinuations. Not if we have our way, however. Please join in opposing the legislation by signing the petition.

    Edit:
Signatures by non-EU citizens are welcome.

The regulatory authority tasked with evaluating public sentiment regarding the law is actively soliciting contributions to the debate by any interested party.
(See: Public consultation on fragrance allergens)
The petition is flanking a contribution by perfume lovers.

Are there persons familiar with the EU's response to past petitions who can affirm that signatures from non-EU citizens aren't considered presumptious or otherwise off-putting?

Guys, EU is going to ban Oakmoss and other ingredients. This means reformulations and Frederic Malle has said that they will need to change at least a quarter of the fragrances.

Tonka bean, oakmoss, citrus etc all at risk.

We are talking about significant reformulations and increase in cost therefore price hikes...

LVMH owns Dior etc will need to change
    Frederic Malle is against this
L'oreal (YSL) no comment because they use a lot of synthetics already.

    Hi!

There has already been a thread about this here so we'll merge the threads.

For those who missed the recent update it's here.

And here's a link to Frederic Malle's interview by Persolaise.

The ban does not concern me since I do not use these notes in my perfumes

    Mia, that's so important.
It is good to see that different forums in perfume sites may come together on it.
And that we can talk about it openly here.
    I'll sign too.

To ban fragrances simply because some might be allergic would be like banning peanuts or peanut butter. Ridiculous! Thats why people should test and find what works for them.

I bet there are other reasons. A lot more people are allergic to alcohol. I myself have often a rather bad reaction to the alcohol in perfumes. You don't see them banning that!

I can't see how a petition will help, these people are jobworth's. They do these these things to keep themselves in a job.

There will always be someone allergic to something... They going to ban everything.

Would make more sense to put a warning of allergic ingredients on the packaging.

I think we should ban Oakmoss. Frankly I think we should also ban air. There is a very small proportion of the population allergic to it. Actually while we are at it we should also ban sunlight as not only are there people with allergies to it but in large doses it is a proven carcinogen....

I mean, how crasy is this?? There are so many potential allergens in everything, food is filled with them, and it just has a label stating that it contains milk, nuts or whatever potential alergens. Everything is filled with them, so why not just put a lable on the box, and those who had an allergic reaction should just stay away from it! Hair dyes are filled with allergens but I don't see them removed from the shelves, they just come with a warning, and advice to perform the test on a small part of skin prior to application. So why the same thing couldn't be done with fragrances? Well, it's clear that this is more than just that, I can hardly believe that they are so worried about allergic people.

Edit: I have never ever heard that someone had a life threatening allergic reaction to a perfume, have you? While there's been so many on, say, antibiotics, still nobody touches that, normally the allergic individual knows it and stays away.

PS: Hasn't oakmoss already been eliminated from all fragrances in 2015 or is it just certain parts of the world?
