    Default S.O.T.D. - Saturday April 26, 2014

I'm starting to like this early start to the thread for a USA fragrance nerd I get to beat everyone here!

Today is a busy one. Hair appt., early cookout and then a Heart concert. We will see if the old girls still have it! A favorite of mine growing up, and a classic rock band with a twist. I think Chanel Coromandel should see me through the afternoon and night.

A little pre concert warmup is called for I think. Enjoy your day everyone!!!!

    Then:

And now, doing a little Led Zep: Enjoy!

Morning everyone! What a great sync that was yesterday - I learned so much! I am in Jicky PDT for the gym this morning, and I am going to be taking a leaf out of dear Mike's book for the afternoon in Montecristo - can't wait to see if it's as skanky as I've read.

Oh and Xscent, great minds think alike - just yesterday morning, I ordered a 2ml sample of Bal a Versailles. Based on all the colorful reviews, it should be right down my alley You guys know me so well....Oh and yes to the Guerlain porn, please. I am even more of a Guerlain girl than a Chanel one, if truth be known. So get uploading all those wonderful Guerlain pics ASAP, girl!

Cello and ExtremeK and Mike - thanks so much for weighing in on the 31 Rue Cambon. I am relieved to report that my concerns over longevity were unfounded. Like you mentioned, the middle does get quiet, and that hesperidic beginning does last well into the heart, so I was despairing of ever getting to that ambery, patch-y dry down that everyone talks about. But I did get there! I could smell it on my wrists right up until my evening shower! My God, Chanel has done it again for me. It is simply stunning. I think I have found my summer chypre.

By the way, now I am positively salivating to get my hands on my decant of No. 18! What wonderful descriptions you all gave of it! I did order it almost purely based on its reputation for being odd, I must say. Am very curious as to what ambrette seed actually smells like in a composition.

By the way, on the subject of Jicky PDT - this is just another term for the EDP, correct? I find it wonderful. It has almost exactly the same opening as Shalimar - like Mike explained to me, Guerlain uses a very stinky grade of bergamot which has an infamous baby vomit note. Now that I'm used to it in the current Shalimar EDP, it doesn't bother me at all. I like it, even. I wonder do some people mistake the stinky bergamot opening for civet? So far, I don't see too much convergence from Shalimar. I only smell a tiny hint of lavender and even then I'm not sure that's not simply the power of suggestion, having read the notes in advance.

^^^ There's Terry wearing No. 22. I think it's better suited to you than I. Each time I try No. 22, I get a better understanding of it. I noticed yesterday that I liked the edt better than the extrait. Sometimes I think I don't have the actual flower-smelling experience to relate to some of the floral interpretations of some perfumes. My family's humble life style didn't bring a lot of the foods, mixed drinks, flowers and other experiences you folks rave about.

Today I'm excited to move rocks. Archimedes said, “Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.”

Heck, just give me a good pair of gloves and plenty of time, and I can move the world, too. And I'll do it drenched in Mr. Lutens’ Bois de Violette.

    CN: “Chic sheik!” Cheesy good.

    Hey, welcome, scooptn!

I hope everybody can enjoy today as much I I expect to.

White florals? HOORAY!!!! [Joins teardrop in BWF happy dance.] I'll have to start thinking about that. It needs to be big and bombastic, to usher in the BWF season.

I have no idea what I'll end up wearing today, but the family is celebrating spring with a spree of bike-buying. The 12 y/o picked up a new Trek mountain bike that will last him through his growth spurts (he's grown nearly 3" this school year), the 7 y/o got his 20" 1-speed last year, and David and I are looking at awesome retro Electra bikes.

For that, either Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine or Byredo Pulp is sounding perfect.

Wow cello, what a way to start the thread - that Stairway cover is great! Thanks, and enjoy the show!

I'm in gorgeous and vivacious vintage Diorissimo, 70s edt, for the second day of Jazz Fest, which I intend to enjoy from the new Brazilian Pavilion, as Tony calls it ...it's actually called the Cultural Exchange Pavilion, but this year it's featuring hundreds of Brazilian musicians, cooks, artists and dancers for the entire run of the festival, so it's all about Brazil, and wherever there's forró and bossa nova is where I want to be.

    Y'all have a fantastic day!

Hi there, scooptn - best of luck to your company, and enjoy!

Rynegne sound like a great weekend you have planned, enjoy! And I hope you did decide to go out Friday night to make up for my evening of ironing.

Mike I will report back when it gets here, vintage florals are a gamble. Glad you are enjoying the vintage BdÎ (how could you not? It’s marvellous).

shades CdR and No.5! Scrubs never smelt so sexy.

ExtremeK retro bikes?! Do it! Would it surprise you I have a Pashley Sovereign Princess in British racing green? Leather handles, wicker basket the works.

ClaireV Bal a Varsaille should be experienced in vintage form, it’s fifthly. After that varnish note clears the whole thing settles into sweet, leather raunch. To my nose Cuir Maurseque has a similar leather note. I’ll get to Guerlain porn soon, I’ve posted the Montre EdC porn, I’ll haul the rest of them from the cellar soon.

sfmedusa how are you? Any more news?

Great news, my files are back! Thank you for all the limb crossing I’m sure that is what saved the day.

A rainy and gloomy day in my world today which make me want leather, oh who I am I kidding? I love leather in any weather. Cuir Mauresque today and continuing the leather love and twins with scooptn (welcome!) with M tonight (ClaireV another one for you to sample).

Quarry, when I first got N° 22 extrait, my first Chanel besides a mini of N° 5 EdP, I could barely smell it at all! It took repeated wearings, and days in a row to pick up on its secrets. N° 22 strikes me as delicate yet pointed—or, pointed yet delicate, like a single harp string plucked above a lush orchestral chord. It stays close to the skin on me. I find it perfect in springtime. fwiw, I can't really suss out notes on this one, I just love its overall effect.

Just a prim and proper hello today… no frenzied fits of jibber jabber!)
Very happy about the good news re. found data, rock music and rock moving, and also precious wolf sightings!

SOTD is Ce Soir ou Jamais. I always thought of this fragrance as a boozy, sweet rose that has a sort of dense quality while still remaining fairly bright and spring-like. Yesterday, after again reading the Bois de Jasmin review of No. 18 by Victoria, (which I am sure I have read many times before,) I realized that ambrette is probably one of those notes that I enjoy but had never known about, or consciously sensed! http://boisdejasmin.com/2007/04/chan...me-review.html
At this reading, I have acquired some of the perfumes mentioned as rose and ambrette pairings, and they are some of my favorites. (Ce Soir ou Jamias, Lipstick Rose, and Rose d’Ete). I hope to explore these with some attempt to understand amberette. (Which is also a very cute plant, btw, and is going to make it into my garden this year...)

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

    Hey everyone!

It makes me happy to see all the fun stuff going on in your necks of the world. I am doing absolutely nothing today - well, other than laying out in the backyard trying to get some sun! I've had a bit of lunch (with celery + PB - something I take for granted as normal but is very weird when you stop and think about it - who would've ever thought that would be a good combination?) and am working on For Whom The Bell Tolls and a fresh vodka tonic - I guess life could be worse.

Quarry, I hear ya - there are some serious connoisseurs in our midst! I am more Kentucky bumpkin myself (albeit a good smelling bumpkin, if you please). I can't even say that I have "champagne tastes on a beer budget," since I'm so lowbrow I don't even like champagne.

ExtremeK, bike shopping sounds like fun! Let us know if you end up coming home with anything for yourself!

jujy, glad to hear your hip is mending. I hope the walk does you some good.

ineespenes, sounds like a very nice day. I made pizza last night - how I love homemade pizza!

Now back to the sun - in 28 La Pausa.

Edit to add: Mocha, I add my pictures using an IMG tag from photobucket and I believe several others do the same. There are other ways, but I got tired of fighting them and creating a photobucket account, uploading images, and then copying and pasting the IMG tag into the post is pretty foolproof.

Ooooh, if I'd read this a little earlier I could have been in synch with you today!

I started the day out in Dolce and Gabbana (original red one) but just after breakfast a new little box arrived and I just couldn't resist testing one of them out.

I picked up a very old (50s I think) Molinard miniature set of 9 parfum phials and it arrived today. In the end I chose Madrigal to start exploring but I think Habanita will be next.

Madrigal is just so warming and comfortable that I wish I had a bottle of the modern scent that smelled like the vintage. It's hard to imagine why this was sold as a men's fragrance, as it would be a perfect unisex scent.

shadesofbleu - of course I remember our little trip to Bal Harbour Shops and the Chanel boutique. I remember you falling for No. 22 and I think that was the very first time that I smelled Bel Respiro (it still haunts me - I need to get a decant of it soon). Nice memory. ((hugs))
ClaireV - glad you were patient with the 31RC and that in the end you enjoyed it - isn't it something special? I personally have never smelled No. 18 - I've heard the rose note is exquisite. And yes, Guerlain's PdT's are really just EdP's - however since they stopped using that designation years ago it's also an easy way to discern that is a vintage Guerlain. I treasure my Jicky and Shalimar PdT's...and yet, I find them very different.
Evangeline - enjoy your Brazilian / Jazz afternoon. I happen to be spending the afternoon with a Brazilian friend also. Viva Brasil!
Xscent - I'm so glad to hear your files are okay
cestrum - I struggle to enjoy ambrette prominent scents...although I think last night's Montecristo has it, it amps up the skankiness nicely
Mocha - you're on an Iris 39 bender, I see? When you click the 'Insert Image' button a window will pop open. Make sure the 'From URL' tag is chosen and then when you enter the URL in the field make sure you UNCHECK the 'Retrieve remote file and reference locally' box. That way you won't see a little picture, you'll post the image in it's original size in the post. Hope that helps.
    Twolf - ((sandalwoody hugs))
    scooptn - welcome!

So remember that lady that gave me the Mysore sandalwood to sample, I finally broke into it and combined it with some unscented face lotion (from Aveda) - one drop of oil mixed with a tiny amount of lotion, I smeared it all over my chest and arms. It's so beautiful. It doesn't surprise me that scientists have proven it has physiological reactions when worn - I just feel more 'serenity' when I wear this stuff. That might sound 'hippie dippy' but for me it's true. I have no idea what brand of sandalwood oil she's got - she told me she had an aromatherapy company and that she has a lot of this oil. I will have to ask her for more information about it. It smells much 'older' than the sandalwood I bought recently from the UK (I can't remember the name now...), and of course it's hushed and stays close, but it smells creamy, woody, resinous. The REAL DEAL. I can see that I am going to go through this 1 ml very fast.

I'm also in Chanel again today ... no5! I slept really late this morning, but promised my mom I'd take her to Kohls this afternoon.
