    Default Thierry Mugler: Les Exceptions

    source: The Perfume Chronicles

Thierry MUGLER has teamed up with famous perfumers Jean-Christophe Herault and Olivier Polge to create a new line of perfumes called “Les Exceptions.” The line is comprised of 5 different perfumes- Chyprissime, Supra Floral, Fougere Furieuse, Over The Musk and Oriental Express.

“When designing this new fragrance I really wanted to focus on the pillars that define the Thierry MUGLER brand- Structured, Statuesque and Glamorous,” said Herault.

“The fragrances are based on floral, chypre, musk, oriental and ‘fougere’ accents. I wanted to achieve a very warm scent for the perfume and thanks to advances in chemistry, was able to use molecular distillation to remove the dark notes of patchouli to achieve this ” said Herault.

    source: Real Style

Refillable bottles of 80 ml, $185 CAN. $127 CAN per refill.

[EDIT]: Any Mugler fans out there looking forward to these Herault & Polge creations?

Thanks for this information. I can definitely see myself getting these. When will these be launched?

Interesting. Certainly chypre and fougere not being allowed anymore, one wonders. But Mugler has usually done good stuff, so we shall see.

I found out about these while shopping at The Bay, in Montréal today.

I've been told they soft launched exclusively in Canada (including Vancouver, Toronto) last Thursday, with no details yet of the full release date.

Nothing outstanding IMHO, though Polge's fingerprints are clearly identifiable. Seems like a money grab for the high end market, without much of a difference in sourced material quality from standard production & I loath the $50+ price tag for the flaçon.

Although the SA denied it, I saw slight similarities of Angel's patchy muskiness in Over The Musk....

... Chyprissime seems like a good idea on paper, but we (ie; BNers & all vintage chypre lovers) know that they can't make those like they used to & this one unfortunately hasn't reinvented the wheel. I will return to Fougere Furieuse for a proper wearing, but again upon first impression, Fougere Royale it ain't.

I tried all of them and was very disappointed. Most were fleeting feminine green florals, devoid of any of the Mugler DNA. As bad as the Givenchy prive collection.
    AVOID.

    Definitely not worth it Hednic.

I see these are now for sale on the Mugler website. $225 for 2.7 oz. If you buy a bottle on the Mugler site now, they will throw in a free coffret of all 5 scent samples,

I just now noticed that they've changed the 'Mugler' logo - I like it.

    Oriental Express sounds great.

Denyse from the blog Grain de Musc reviewed all 5 of them - link here: http://graindemusc.blogspot.com/2014...ers-retro.html

I bought Oriental Express at the launch in Montreal earlier this year and really like it. It is a gourmandy iris scent on me. I also got the coffret of the 5 samples but gave it to a friend who was traveling. Over the Musk was my second favorite and I would wear that as a summer fragrance. Oriental Express is a great fall/winter scent. The launch price was good too, I believe I paid $185 Canadian.

Thanks for your observations on this. Must give this line another closer look.

Tested these at The Bay today and I wasn't very impressed. Actually they smelled quite good on paper, I especially liked Over the Musk and Chyprissime, but after testing them on the skin they left me underwhelmed and they were quite close to the skin.

Being a fan of Olivier Polge this line is a huge disapointment to me. I wouldn't even pay $180 CAD for these though I would wear Ove rthe Musk.

Will definitely be buying all five of these later this evening to add to my personal collection. Any other thoughts or opinions on these either negative or positive from people who have tried them? Anyone purchased these directly from Mugler's website. And if so - any problems ordering them there? Thanks.

Edit: Never mind. Have just purchased them.

Hednic, it's been a long while since you ordered these perfumes. What are your impressions?

I have Chyprissime, which I like a lot. Some reviews have said it is fleeting. Hah! Yesterday morning i sprayed some on my hands, then changed my mind. I washed it off three times, then applied Chant d'Arômes "instead." Well, all day long and into the night all I could smell was Chyprissime, until showering before bedtime.

To me Chyprissime is rather dry and very sophisticated. Some have called it powdery; I find it more woody, or "brambly," having a somewhat sharp astringent note. The pear note described seems blended into the whole rather than standing out as pear.

Like you, I like Chyprissime, especially the pear note that is cloaked very well with the oak moss. I also like the spiciness of Oriental Express. The sandalwood in its subtlety is I feel nicely blended in this one. In all very impressed with all of them. You're lucky as in Canada, you had the opportunity to sample them in store. I had to buy mine blind through Mugler's website.

Yes, it was a real shock to learn that Canada was an initial test market for a change. Usually we have to wait a long time for something new.

Oriental Express was the other one that impressed me the most as well. I have samples of all of them but have not fully tested them, tending to stay with a scent for a long time before moving on.

Also got a sample of Chyprissime. Not bad, but not as good as Oriental Express IMO.

I got samples of all of these from ordering from mugler awhile back. My fave was definitely oriental express. I think i like it because i like the dior homme line. Its not identical to that. Its more of a boiled carrot (in a good way). Rather than the makeup smell. Still awesome. My second favorite was over the musk. And even though that is my second fave its wierd some days i can smell it and others not at all. I wonder if another frag is fatiguing me out. Either way i kinda look at the line a different way than most i guess. Some dismiss them because they seem safe and almost mainstream. I actually see that as muglers style to do the opposite of what people expect. Their whole line has been unique and crazy and while i love that about mugler fragrances i kinda feel like the truly unexpected thing to do is for them to go that mainstream route and just make a set of quality likeables. Ive had enough angels, amens, and pure this and that. Still i also understant the feeling of being slighted due to the price. But hey it makes the rest of the line look like a bargain.

When you got your samples a while back. did they send you a sample of their newest one - Cuir Impertinent. Bought a bottle of this latest one not too long ago to add to the others and IMO it's the best offering in the exclusive line.

    Oriental express smells like DHI
The opening on chyprissime is fantastic. It then becomes boring.
Anyone knows any fragrance that smells like the opening of chyprissime?

Tried it yesterday and bought it at once. Indeed a very nice and original take on the leather note. Recommendable.

Enjoy the Cuir Impertinent! Good choice. I find the name doesn't really go with it, though; it seems to me more calm and smooth than impertinent.

Agreed on this view of Chyprissime. After a truly stunning opening it sort of falls away. Many perfumes today are like this. Base note development has really suffered from the IFRA rules. If there is somethng out there like Chyprissime's opening notes I would also like to know about it. It may be hard to find because that accord seems unique among perfumes I have smelled.

I know I am! I agree that the name is not exactly fitting. To be honest, when I first tried it, I wasn't even sure Thierry Mugler was a fitting brand name

It's quite nice and very un-Mugler. It's the only from the LE line I've tried, but it's certainly got me interested in the rest.
