Default V pour homme by Valentino versus Xeryus Rouge by Givenchy

I am big fan of Xeryus Rouge. Today I tried a sample from V pour homme by Valentino and and after about 1 minute I thought they were IDENTICAL. Not similar notes ...Identical. I have not seen anyone else make the comparison so I was wondering if anyone else felt that smell at least very similar or my newbie nose has lost it.
The sample was obtained from fragrancex and was the "on card sample". Looked pretty authentic.

If your talking about the vintage Xeryus Rouge in the art deco bottle, YES, the current formulation which smells like a cross between rotting fruit salad and the Brady Bunch rec room circa 1972, its a NO from me.

I was referring to the current formulations of both.
I like the current Xeryus. I find it quite pleasant but I have to keep it far from my nose.Smells better at a slight distance, so I spray on my short just around my navel.
    Thanks for your reply.

Sorry but these 2 smell nothing alike to me. They are both "red", that's about it. Xeryus is much spicier, and much more mature. V is more like a spicy gourmand, if such a genre even exists. It's much more sweet, and the vanilla/tonka base dominates it. I own V, and have tried Xeryus Rouge numerous times. I think I may like XR slightly more, it's just better quality. V pretty much fades into a boring base that I've smelled time and time again.

Xeryus Rouge has no drawback! It's somehow unique and smells amazing, warm and at the same time light. All depends on how much you spray!
It performs very good and is quite versatile IMHO, all year round too...

Then must be my noobie nose
After the first minute and for the next 15 they smell identical to me. At that point yes, I see V going a bit differently than Xeryus.

I think our opinion is in the minority from what I have seen from previous discussion threads.
