Thread: Looking for that WOOD scent
I am looking for something that smells mainly wood.
I want to smell like I sleep in Home Depots' lumber yard or I just chopped down some fir pine trees and the saw dust is all over me.
I haven't tried any of Dsquared stuff, yet many say they get mainly florals from them.
I do like terredh, and I did order EN even though I haven't smelled it before.( it just sounded good)
I'm still fairly new to fragrance collecting, but I have figured I lean more towards the woody, spicy scents.
Any other suggestions?
+1 Tam Dao

To me, it smells like you have been hit in the face with a plank of wood
Tam Dao was my SotD. I find it very creamy and something that can be easily worn by a female, therefore not that masculine.
For a more masculine take on woods, I would say Duro from Nasomatto.
Gucci Pour Homme i (2003)
Comme des Garcons 2 Man +1 Wonderwood
Leonard pour Homme
"Le parfum est la musique du corps"
He Wood Rocky Mountain Wood.
This looks interesting- A new By Killian.
+1 for Duro. Too expensive IMO, but it's aallllll wood and lasts a week on your skin
+1 Wonderwood - pretty pure wood scent
My other favorite woods tend to have incense... L'Artisan Parfumeur Dzongkha (Cedar, and more woodsy than Timbuktu), Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles, Amouage Memoir Man, and Creed's Royal Oud (a great spicy wood scent, even with no OUD to be found).
Having Simultaneous Affairs with: Amouage Memoir Man, Fate Man, Interlude Man, Epic Extrait (yep... the femme version), Tribute, Homage, Opus IV, VI, & VII • Puredistance M, Black • Tauer L'Air & Carillon pour un Ange • Knize Ten Golden • L'Artisan Al Oudh, Traversee du Bosphore, Dzing! • TF Noir de Noir • Xerjoff Homme, Richwood, Regio, 1861, 1888, Zafar • Serge Lutens MKK, Gris Clair, Fille en Aiguilles, La Myrre • H de Parfums 1740, Noir Patchouli, Tub3 Animale • Abdes Salaam Tabac, Sharif, Mecca Balsam • Slumberhouse Vikt, Baque • MDCI Invasion Barbare, Chypre Palatin • Nicoläi NY, Vie de Chateau Intense, L'Eau Mixte • Dior Leather Oud & Patchouli Imperial • Chanel Sycomore • Guerlain Derby, Songe d'un Bois d'Ete • MFK Oud Cashmere Mood • Ormonde Jayne Man
Norne sounds interesting, a little darker than what I was looking for but very interesting none the less.
The home depot feel you ask for is best represented by Tam Dao EDT version - longevity is an issue, so re-spray after 4 hrs or so for better performance...
If you ever get the chance to try it- S Lutens- Bois Oriental is a boozy strong cedar scent that is warm and creamy. Only available in bell jar though.
Micallef Shanaan - but old wood, like medieval church pews, Gaiac - pure wood, Profumum Roma Sandalo - robust raw sandalwood, L'Erbolario Tea and Cedar - dry wooden bank on midday summer sunshine, Frapin Passion Boisée - little bit spicy, meditative wooden smell, Lacroix Tumulte - just strong wood, as it is, take it or leave it
Cedre by L'Occitane
Cedre Du Liban by Chabaud
Gaiac by Miccalef

Six Scent The Spirit of Wood - everything Wonderwood wanted to be.
Notes: green grass, fig leaves, cypress, elemi, coriander, cedar wood, vetiver, hinoki, white amber
Tam Dao EdT--like spending the whole day in a wood shop cutting cedar. You come home covered with the dust.
Check out the Comme de Garçons stuff - Hinoki, Palisander, etc. and L'Artisan Timbuktu might also be worth a look.

I would suggest He Wood Rocky Mountain Wood, a very woody/outdoorsy feel to it and very wearable at the same time.
Now for some specialized wood:
Montale Aoud Musk - Starts with heavy masculine/oud/wood feel and gets a dark/strong "ebony wood" to the finish
Profumum Roma Arso - for some "burning" wood
Tom Ford Amber Absolute - this isn't so much wood as wood chips, a lot of people pick up a strong sawdust/wood chips accord.

Tam Dao by Diptyque to me would fit your description perfectly.
Kanon's Norwegian Wood is a good cheapie. Completely underrated and won't break the bank. Can find it for $15 or less and has a very nice sandalwood and vanilla combination.
My top 5 changes like the Tennessee weather.

Well, I tried Tan Dao yesterday, unfortunately the sprayer was broken on their tester so I just dabbed some on. I must say, it is definitely straight dry cedar oil smelling. I wish I could have applied it on properly to get the full effect.
I want to thank everyone for your suggestions, as you have definitely push me in the right direction. I can't wait to try some of the others mentioned.
Dsquared Rocky Mountain Wood
Chopard Noble cedar
Wonderwood is very solidly wood. Dry wood.
CdG Monocle Hinoki is even more solidly wood, except it is fresh hamster chips- pure cedar- to me. Both have left my collection as they were a bit much for my wife and I wasn't crazy about them.
Opus 1870 by Penhaligons
Guerlain Homme Eau Boisee
Here's a question back at you... What KIND of wood do you want to smell like? There's many sorts in fragrance and many compositions are built to showcase a particular individual specimen while others are intended to be a woody blend of two or more. Knowing that, we can suggesst some specific items centered around the kind you like.
Montale Dark Aoud
Wait for A*Men Pure wood
Eau d'Italie's Bois d'Ombrie. Peppery smokey wood.
ointments and perfume delight the heart....
Quorum Silver is a cedar bomb.
