Cool My worlds collide! I mean meet!

Not quite sure whether this belongs in off-topic, but here is a piece for double bass quartet called "Sillages"! (I'm a retired bassist)

Here's what the composer had to say:

Veronika has written the following note about sillages:

In French sillage literally means wake or trail. In perfumery it's the degree to which a perfume's fragrance lingers in the air when worn. When I first heard the term I knew I would use it for the title of a piece. Then David Moore asked me to write a work for double bass quartet and I started with that as the title. To combine two seemingly disparate ideas -- large double basses and the delicate waft of a scent -- I asked Canadian writer André Alexis to write a poem that did just that. His text is the poetic inspiration for this work for the four amazing bassists of the LA Phil: David Moore, Christopher Hanulik, Oscar Meza, and Peter Rofé.
And here is a poem from the description:

    Sillages

A roar carves into the land
    rumbling someth
    ing floral.

    Under last year's straw
    the civet comes to life

    While plows with fragrant wrists
stutter and dig the crumbling fields.

    Lumbering beasts with delicate minds,
They leave quartz and citrus, almonds and rust.

    -- André Alexis

    Enjoy!

Thanks for posting this lovely fragrance-related piece

It will be a treat to listen to it properly.

Barre Philips' work used to fascinate me years ago...

That was very soothing to listen to. How I admire musicians - so creative.

Many fragrances came to mind while listening to this. What a neat opportunity. Thanks.

You're welcome, everyone. Ever since I sold my bass I've been scouting youtube for interesting bass music. I'm actually enjoying being on the listening side of the experience. What an instrument, by turns comical, profound, scary, tender, awesome. I think this performance Illustrates the dusky beauty of the instrument, something fragrance connoisseurs certainly "get".

    Cello music is amazing!
The dis-harmonic parts were as challenging as some perfumes I have tried!
Thanks for this musically accurate representation of the experience of trying and wearing an interesting perfume.

    Cellos are amazing, purplebird, almost as amazing as their big, big brother, the double bass, featured here. Full disclosure: e bassists steal cello music all the time. (;

The quintessential cello ensemble piece is, of course Bachianas Brasilieras, which would go well with anything Myrurgia (:
